The mountain you can see from our place. There's a dirt road we park at and walk up a path. Really nice hike, not busy, we've taken our dog there too. Can park here: https://goo.gl/maps/Lm8fR1QKQyM23Uz78

World's largest freestanding boulder, so, gotta see it. Pretty cool, a lot people there to camp or picnic or dirt bike. Is a long dirt road getting there, and first time felt further than expected, but nice to check out.

Traveler advice

What to pack

Always have water

Even a drive to the nearby gas station, it's nice to have water in case your car breaks down. And definitely if you plan going out to hike, even on flat, easy trails, you need extra water.
Getting around

Plan trips

It's not far to Yucca Valley or Joshua Tree, but going there and back takes time. We often just go to pick up take out, but sometimes it's nice to group together a hike or grocery run.
Getting around

Desert Dangers!

We live in a very rural location, be careful for wildlife and plants. Some of the cacti are very prickly, be careful where you step or brush up against. Even some innocent looking green bushes have thorns allover. Always wear shoes and keep shoes inside to avoid red ants getting in. We have not seen snakes or scorpions, but you should be prepared and aware in our land and during hikes.
Book before you go

Joshua Tree National Park

If you can book and print a pass before you go, it's quicker and easier to get into the park. The West entrance can get busy, but we usually can get in right away, once we had to wait about 15-20 minutes to get through the entrance. We've never had to show a pass, or wait, at Black Rock, Oasis Trail, Indian Cove, and all the places offer great experiences.
