A classic in Cadiz

Pop in and try their ham, cheese and tapas.. for an authentic feeling of the town!

Close to Plaza las Flores in downtown. This market has evolved with time, but it is still special. Pop in to buy your own fish from the fishmongers and have it cooked in one of the stands. Try their sushi made out of local fish (except for the salmon, of course). Buy some queso “Payoyo” (famous cheese from the Cadiz mountains) and Spanish ham from one of the stands. Get your drinks and you made yourself your own tapas lunch for a fraction of what it may cost!

This is just 4 minutes from the flat. The menu is exquisite and waiters are very friendly. Advice: book as soon as you arrive to Cadiz! It’s always full!!

Cadiz is well known for its fried fish and this is a great place to have it! There are two in town. One of them just after The Hotel Playa Victoria.

This is the cafe or bar you need to stop at if you are walking from the apartment to the city centre. Ask for a “ cañita fresquita” (cold beer) and charge your batteries for the next 20 minutes walk to the very end of Cadiz!

Sightseeing

This is where magic happens. A metropolitan beach that is a must if you come to Cadiz. I would recommend going there to enjoy the sunset (to have a beach day, stay on the beach near the flat as it’s more relaxing, bigger and less crowded).

The real cathedral for carnival lovers. We pay our respect to this building every February (in my case every time I go to the city). The fort that holds the carnival music competition. Place where you laugh and cry simultaneously. The people’s palace: a must see in the city, and if you are lucky, visit inside.

After a long walk you need to chill out. Enjoy a peaceful stroll in this botanical garden. There are fountains, ducks, lovely flowers well maintained and some exotic tree specimens. Place where I spend many afternoons in my university days!

Early in the morning the tie is low and you can walk from the flat to this isolated part of the coast. Turn left as soon as you get to the beach front and enjoy a magnificent stroll in this relaxing beach. More than 3 km of pure nature, white sands and few surfers. Definitely another of my daily routines when I visit Cadiz.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Walking, cycling or taking the bus: the way to go

Parking in downtown Cadiz can be a challenge, I highly recommend cycling to the town centre or taking the bus number 1 (€1,10 per ticket/ cash no cards) which is 2 minutes from the flat. You can also walk to the old city: 40 minutes from home! If you wish to go to other towns nearby (e.g. Puerto de Santa Maria, San Fernando or Jerez), there is a train station near Carranza football stadium, 7 minutes from home.
What to pack

Merge yourself in3,000 years of history!

Cadiz has an important historical legacy, not only for its trading links with America, but also political influence in the past. Cadiz is one of the few cities we can say locals know each other, people are friendly, they are always laughing and looking to the positive side of life, and ready to help you anytime! In all honesty I think it’s the only city that can make me smile, it might be because I’m abroad that I truly appreciate the friendly attitude and the good vibes this city transmit. Enjoy!
What to pack

Bring comfortable shoes not only your sandals!

This city is for walking, so make yourself comfortable! Although you are in the south of Spain, it can get a bit chilly as it’s next to the sea. Bring a light jacket for summer nights, you won’t regret it. At the apartment we provide you with bath towels, but not beach towels. Bring your own beach towel if you wish to go for a dive in the sea (as you will!).
