Food Scene

They have being feeding the neighborhood, and hordes of tourists, for more than five decades for a few euros (more or less 12€: solid starter, main course, dessert, bread, glass of wine, coffee). I must admit it is of my favourite places in Madrid. It might not be very delicate but it’s honest and satisfying. And it keeps the atmosphere of a Madrid from other times.

Much newer than La Sanabresa, they have improved the model. Great service, excellent choice of specialties form Galicia (North-West of the peninsula). Everything in the menu is of the best quality, but the octopus is a must. I must insist, prices are truly unparalleled.

LA FÁBRICA is the base of the historical photography studio with the same name. It is open from breakfast to the first drinks after dinner. Together with a number of delicious dishes of Italian influence, they provide an excellent selection of wines and cavas. (I strongly recommend «Agustí Torrelló Mata», a very fine cava that they serve by glasses).

Tandem is the easy tapas version of EL TRICICLO (http://eltriciclo.es/), a classical avant-garde restaurant only a few meters up the street. A good place where to taste some typical Spanish delicatessen such as anchoas del Cantábrico (best anchovies in the world) or cecina (smoked beef). The «bocadillo de calamares» is a must.

It might not look as fancy as other options in the neighborhood but it certainly provides the experience of tradition and quality characteristic of the orchards and costs of Murcia (South-East of the peninsula). Probably one of the best places in Madrid to eat rice in different ways (paella, puchero) or fideua. Tomatoes, asparagus, «habitas tiernas»…
