Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, is a limestone rock formation and landmark island in the Mississippi River one mile south of Wittenberg in Perry County. Approximately 80 feet high during normal river levels, this natural monument has been documented by river travelers since 1699. Tower Rock was such an integral part of life along the river that many legends and stories have been woven about its colorful history. A .15 mile hiking trail leads to a lookout platform
