A collection of ancient pueblos that were once inhabited by the ancestors of the Hopi and Zuni people. It’s also very famous for its monthly full-moon bike rides.

The dark charred bulk of Sunset Crater Volcano, responsible for the last eruption in Arizona, less than 950 years ago. There are some intriguing hiking trails around the cinder cone and through the surrounding forest that still bears the scars of that violent event.

Walnut Canyon, is an upside down Wupatki. Instead of exposed tall pueblos, the ancient people of Walnut Canyon used the ledges and alcoves in the limestone walls to build their compact cliff dwellings. A couple of trails take you right to the ancient structures so you are definitely walking in the footsteps of the past. If you want to avoid climbing, a rim trail keeps you up top with great views.

Locally owned pizza chain. Fast and delicious pizza. Popeye pizza is my favorite. West location is closer to the house, but they have a downtown location as well.

Skiing, snowboarding

There is a great Aspen corner hiking trail to see color-changing aspens in the Fall. During summer you can do a scenic chair lift, and of course, skiing and snowboarding during winter.
