White Oak Canyon is a must see local attraction. There are several waterfalls including a swimming area in the large falls. The entrance is about 15 minutes drive from the house. You can hike all the way up to Big Meadows on Skyline drive if you are very adventurous. There is a fee per car to hike or you need a National Park Annual Pass. It is about a 1 hour moderate hike up to first fall.

Old Rag Mountain is a 3,284 feet mountain in the Shenandoah National Park and is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the park. It is a very strenuous hike and is not for beginners or those with mobility issues as there is a rock scramble right at the end. If you have an entire day for hiking and the energy, the views are magnificent. A 9-mile (14.5 km) circuit hike or a 5.4-mile (8.7 km) out-and-back hike to the summit can be made.
