Traveler advice

Getting around

Avoid walking out at night for safety reasons.

We recommend not staying out late at night even though the neighbourhood is pretty quiet and calm at night. During the day there is activity on the 10th avenue and it's pretty safe.
What to pack

Always carry around an umbrella!

During rainy season, which is practically lasts for half a year, you should carry an umbrella just in case.
Getting around

Uber is the most comfortable to travel around

Uber is pretty useful inside the city, especially outside rush hour. However, if you're going outside downtown San José and visiting places far away I would recommend renting a car (4x4 if you're going to a rocky area or beach).
Useful phrases

"Pura vida"

Costa Rica's finest. A colloquial way of saying hello, thank you, I'm fine, great, etc. In other words, a connotation to a positive message.
