Drinks & Nightlife

Best cocktails in the area & maybe the best in the city. The hours here are hard to figure out. It's best to go between 8pm & 1am. But it's an intimate place, with friendly bartenders & local music.

Good beer. Nice people working there. Great curries for those who've been traveling a while and miss spicy. They are really spicy, proper curries. They also have good breakfasts on Sat and Sun. noon.

Go hear to see and hear live music, mostly tango. The best artists of the country play here. It's an intimate spot with terrible food, so eat before you go.

Food Scene

Cafe Notable. These are old-fashioned, lovely cafes that have not changed in 100 years or so. Food is never awesome. It's suitable for lunch. But the atmosphere is unbeatable.

This is where you must go for the Argentine asado. You'll find cuts of beef you haven't seen in other spots and they're done beautifully. Let the waiter guide you.

Our second favorite spot in San Telmo. Fresh, seasonal menu. Lovely service. Great for lunch. Sidewalk tables for when the weather is nice.

Our absolute favorite restaurant in San Telmo. Sort of pricey for the neighborhood, but it's the best ojo de bife (ribeye) in the city. It's small, so do reserve.

Lunch spot. You can go for dinner, too. But this is a spot for locals (still, so please don't tell everyone). Get the provoleta and the vacio. Ignore the rude waiters, that's just the way it is.

Buy a big bottle of Quilmes from a shop nearby & pick a spot on the stairs or grab a table for drinks (no food, seriously bad stuff & overpriced). The people watching is great on the plaza.

Shopping

If you only go to see the architecture, it's worth it. But the collection of quirky, fun, gorgeous, vintage items for sell is unbeatable.
