The first Belcanto opened in 1958 but was reborn in 2012 through distinguished chef José Avillez. It soon became the first restaurant in Lisbon to be awarded two Michelin stars, and in 2015 it was added to the list of the world's 100 best restaurants. Today it's only possible to get a table by booking weeks or even months in advance, also because it only has ten tables. The chef Jose Avillez has several restaurants in Lisbon and Porto, but this where he presents his haute cuisine, reinventing Portuguese and international flavors.

Found at the back of the Ribeiro da Cunha Palace, home to the Embaixada concept store, this space is open from noon to midnight, for meals or cocktails. It has an interior dining room but the garden terrace is the most inviting area, for a burger or refreshing drink. Created by a professional butcher and a chef, it offers the best meats from different origins, and you may choose among the cuts on display. They can be turned into burgers, steak or matured entrecôte, with potatoes and salad on the side. If you’re not hungry, you may simply relax outside in the shade of palm trees, with a cocktail in hand.

The best Lisbon view! It's worth making the 10-minute journey from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas. This waterfront district on the southern bank of the Tagus offers one of the most beautiful views of Lisbon and has several restaurants known for their fresh fish. That journey is made on a "cacilheiro," a single-hull ferry that does the public transportation service between the two sides of the river. As soon as you arrive in Cacilhas you can smell the fish being grilled, inviting you to take a break for a meal before visiting the Monument to Christ nearby.

Lisbon's flea market is a destination for bargains and treasure hunting every Saturday and Tuesday mornings. Is called locally the Feira da Ladra, often thought to mean "Thieve's Market" (in Portuguese "ladra" is a woman thief) but it actually derives from "ladro," a bug found in antiques. Hand-made artisan goods, CD's, books, clothes, stamps, coins, military objects, antiques and furniture is all on display here, so the occasional bargain is still possible. Engracia Church, or the National Pantheon, can be seen standing proudly just a short walk away.

The rooftop of a car park (7th floor) was transformed into a bar with a beautiful view over the city, the river, and the bell towers of Santa Catarina Church. It opens daily at 1PM and only closes late at night. It's filled with wooden furniture and small potted trees to create the feeling of a garden. It presents a varied calendar of events, including performances by DJs and outdoor cinema, and there is still room for meals (burgers of meat, fish and soy).
