Penticton is about an hour drive from Kelowna. Penticton is one of just two cities in the world situated between two lakes. Beaches and water fun are part of the Summer culture here – dive in like a local and get wet. Okanagan and Skaha Beaches feature nearly 15 acres of premium, sandy beach and swimming areas. Along with all of the year-round recreational activities available, agriculture has been an important contributor to Penticton’s livelihood. There are over 80 wineries in the Penticton metropolitan area, 7 craft breweries, 2 cideries and 3 distilleries all within easy walking or biking distance of the downtown core.

Always a literal treat to visit, QB has amazing gelato and so much more. The owners, Kevin and Victor, take pride in and excel in all areas of the business including using the best ingredients (choosing local whenever possible), hiring the most helpful staff, and keeping health and safety top of mind. From all of the goodies they have on offer, including baked goods, breads, speciality coffee, and gelato, my go to is always the Salted Caramel gelato. Another tip is to order their frozen Cheesemaker's Mac & Cheese to take and heat at home. It's ooey-gooey and delicious, a must try. QB is perfect for grab and go, but also have a nice outdoor space in front with spaced out tables where you can enjoy the sunshine while enjoying their goodies.

Dosa Crepe Cafe has two locations in Kelowna, one in Rutland and one downtown on Bernard, and you can't go wrong with a visit to either, but I visited the location in Rutland. I cannot emphasize enough how much joy comes to my face when opening a dosa to get a glimpse of the goodness inside. My favourite is the Butter Chicken Masala Dosa, filled with, you guessed it, chicken in creamy tomato sauce and potato masala. Visit their original Rutland location seven days a week for dosa, roti, pizza, and sweet crepes. Both locations are currently offering take out and delivery, with downtown also having a small outdoor patio.

If you're looking for vineyard views overlooking Okanagan Valley, you can't go wrong with a meal on the patio at Peak Cellars, plus the food is great. The most popular dish on the menu and my favourite is the Lobster & Shrimp Pizza. It's loaded with Canadian lobster, shrimp, baby spinach, mozzarella, and finished with a garlic lemon herb sauce - so good! As the staff say, "People will be upset if we take it off the menu." So plan a visit anytime this spring and you'll be able to give it a try. Another great thing about this restaurant is that you can go for a wine tasting beforehand or grab a bottle (or two or more) to take home. The Garden Bistro is currently open with patio dining service.

In my opinion, Kaya is one of the best Japanese fusion restaurants in Kelowna. They have a wide range of dishes from fresh, raw seafood to fusion pasta bowls to my favourite, Wagyu beef ishiyaki hot stone, where you cook your own specially seasoned meat (on hold while indoor dining is restricted). Another great dish is the seasonal Aburi style sushi, which is blow-torched to give it a unique flavour and presentation. Ultimately, no matter what you order, you'll be satisfied. Kaya Sushi is currently open for take away.

In downtown Kelowna is an expansive 900 square feet of bar and small bites. The compact space is designed around the unique bar being built by local wood craftsman Will Brundula. Constructed from three species of reclaimed wood, the end cuts will be put together like a jig-saw puzzle to create a one-of-a-kind surface that anchors the space. Over the bar hangs a 20-foot wooden chandelier complete with dozens of suspended antiqued-style caged lights. Surrounding this 65′ of bar is a grey stone wall that looks like it’s been part of the space forever and Italian-style plaster walls applied in a hundreds year-old four-stage technique. Souring ceilings, Italian plaster and stone give micro a European feeling but Chef Butters ensures the casual attitude of the Okanagan remains. The European flavour extends to the glassware at micro with beer, cocktails and wine served in simple tumblers. No fancy stemware here.

Frankie, We Salute You! is a celebration of the things in life that make us feel good, and the people who we share them with. Located smack in the middle of Canada's favourite wine and vegetable growing region, we've built a menu that celebrates all-things-local while at the same time tipping the hat to our grandfathers and their families, "The Franks", who inspired our love of growing plants and building community. We believe that what happens to food before it arrives to our restaurant is every bit as important as how it's prepared in our kitchen. Our menu pulls from a close family of local growers and farmers, with an equal emphasis on regional wines, craft beer + cider. Owners Chef Brian Skinner and Christina Skinner have always seen food as a way to connect with the people they love. Their goal is to continue to make plant-based eating tasty and inspiring for meat eaters and vegetable aficionados alike - full of heart, healthy, and (most importantly) fun. Everyone is welcome.

This popular canyon and the KVR Trestles are amazing to visit year-round. While you could easily go from Kelowna all the way to Penticton (80 km one way), the most scenic walk along the stroller-friendly route (Myra to Ruth Station) is 12 km one way. This area is the most picturesque because it includes the highest number of trestles and signage. Walking it is nice but bicycling it is faster and it's an easy peddle the entire way! Bike rentals are available at the Myra Station entrance (Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental & Tours) and will provide a 1.5 - 2 hour trek. If walking, prepare for a much longer leisurely stroll of upwards of 4-5 hours.

Another one of Kelowna’s most well-known and popular beaches, there’s a reason Boyce-Gyro Beach is a hot spot in the summertime. Located on Lakeshore just past Mission Park shopping centre, there’s tons of parking and it's well shaded if you want to escape the sun for a bit. Gyro Beach Watersports offers a variety of water toy rentals including paddle boats, SUPs, canoes and kayaks and there’s a large playground to keep the kids busy!
The perfect place for a picnic, Bertram Creek Regional Park is found off of Lakeshore Road, just past Summerhill Winery. There are a number of picnic tables, a large pavilion that can be used for events and a beautiful swimming area.
