Food scene

This is one of our favorite restaurants and watering holes in Breckenridge. We love sitting in the cozy outdoor area and drinking their wonderful cocktails in the summer. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is laid back. It offers a first class experience every time. During the summer they also roast pigs, ducks and other types of meats in the outdoor area.

This may be my favorite spot in the area. Its about 20 minutes from Breckenridge in the town of Frisco. This is a tiny, authentic, German themed restaurant offering sausage platters and massive beers. It's located in a small, open, boutique mall. Amazing decor and atmosphere. This is a must visit!

Delicious. This small outdoor crepe stand boasts a long line no matter the time of year. For good reason! Both the savory and sweet crepes are heavenly and worth the long (cold) wait. There is no seating so you can wander up and down Main Street while you eat!

Our favorite restaurant for a special occasion. This victorian home converted restaurant serves hand-cut steaks, wild game, seafood and the best of local cuisine. The experience at Hearthstone is very special from the ambiance to the food to the service. They offer private outdoor seating in the summer which makes for spectacular views.

If you don't feel like dining out or paying vacation prices for food, this is the place to go. They have several different homemade soups that are delicious and they come with freshly baked bread. There's no seating in the restaurant, so bring it back to the house and enjoy it by the fire!

Really tasty sandwich stand downtown. Perfect for grabbing a quick bite (philly cheesesteak, meatball sub, gyro) after a long day of skiing or hiking. Very reasonably priced and delicious.

To Do

This is an easy, short hike that offers unparalleled views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains. BRING SEEDS! While you're taking in the amazing view at the overlook, you'll notice all the friendly chipmunks. Put a sunflower seed in your hand and hold it close to the ground; the chipmunks will literally take them out of your hand and even jump up on it! It's so fun for kids and nature lovers. Quite an experience. Not to mention, this is where my wife and I held our wedding ceremony!

Hiking

Park at the Spruce Creek Trailhead and follow the signs to Mohawk Lake. This is my favorite hike in the area. AllTrails rates the hike as "hard" and is says that the trail is 8.2 miles out and back. Its long and steep but so totally worth it. the lake and surrounding mountains are magical. My wife and I can be found during the summer and fall hiking this trail regularly. We actually got engaged on the South West bank of the lake!

This is one of Colorado's 58 peaks over 14,000' aka "14ers". Start at the Quandary Peak Trailhead just minutes from the house. The trail is 7.5 miles to the peak and back and rated as hard on AllTrails. This is one of the shorter, easier 14ers to tackle in colorado. The trail gets quite busy so I would suggest hiking it in the morning. You will encounter snow on the trail no matter what time of year you visit so be prepared! The views from the top are amazing and its quite an accomplishment to hike one of Colorado's 14ers while visiting. Good luck!

This is a very cool out and back hike that takes you over streams and past lakes to a beautiful basin and the base of Quandary Peak. This is another hike that you can make as long or as short as you want. You can even link this to the top of Quandary Peak via the West Ridge (for experienced mountaineers only)! This is an enjoyable hike for the whole family.

This is our go-to spot to grab a beer and relax. The backyard beer garden is great in the summer and fall and usually has a live band on the stage or some event going on. The outdoor areas are dog friendly as well!

We love people watching while drinking a local beer at the TBar. The TBar is on the mountain at the base of the slopes. Take the free gondola from town up to Peak 8 and enjoy watching skiers bombing down Northstar.
