If you don't know where to go, go here (to the beach). Valet isn't cheap, but the parking all around isn't either, and it's more frustrating.

Great spot for beach day $6 parking- bathrooms, tons of sand, rentals, food is decent- the high tide chicken sandwich is great. To avoid traffic, avoid the most popular beachgoing times, or just plan to have dinner after sunset THEN head back to the hills.

Sightseeing

Walk of Fame. It's not my favorite place in LA, but if you've never been...it's close. The Mann's Chinese Theatre is really great, the other movie theaters in the complex are normal.
