Sightseeing

This is a great place to visit before you venture out to see the area's elk herds in the historic Boxley Valley - which is not only beautiful, but depending on the time of year you can sometimes view the elk herd in the early morning or evenings. It's truly something to behold when the bull elk are bugling and fighting.

Great hiking trail to consider! Very popular. Features the most photographed rock formation in Newton County. Absolutely beautiful! Whitaker Point/Hawksbill Crag is . It's the most photographed spot in Newton County - talking about the "Hawksbill". Be incredibly careful hiking this trail. Every year folks encounter rattlesnakes...and some people have gotten too close to the edge and have fallen to their deaths. Play it safe and stay back from bluff edges especially at the Hawk's Bill. *All the trails in the area are on USDA website. The site gives a lot of detailed information about each trail.

Fifteen minutes from your cabin is Alum Cove Trail. It's a great trail and has outdoor cave rooms that are interesting. It also has a water feature and a natural bridge. This is probably the easiest hike to take simply because it's the closest and least populated. (None of the trails are that populated, but some more than others.) This is the closest government maintained trail in the Parthenon area, a short 10-15 minutes away. From Parthenon, take Hwy 327 South. Travel approx. eight to nine miles. Watch for signs on the highway. The trail is 1.1 miles to the natural bridge but does have many steps. You can also hike a little further and see the outdoor cave rooms. *All the trails in the area are on USDA website. The site gives a lot of detailed information about each trail.
