This is a great place to visit before you venture out to see the area's elk herds in the historic Boxley Valley - which is not only beautiful, but depending on the time of year you can sometimes view the elk herd in the early morning or evenings. It's truly something to behold when the bull elk are bugling and fighting.

4642 AR-43This is a great place to visit before you venture out to see the area's elk herds in the historic Boxley Valley - which is not only beautiful, but depending on the time of year you can sometimes view the elk herd in the early morning or evenings. It's truly something to behold when the bull elk are bugling and fighting.
An easy and very worthwhile drive- Take Highway 7 south of Jasper and stop at the Scenic Point Overlook.
Round Top Trail is on your way up the mountain and well marked.
After the scenic overlook and/or the trail, travel on to Cliff House Inn for an incredibly SCENIC lunch.

This is a scenic area with a 209' waterfall, tall bluffs and hiking trails. From Parthenon, go to Jasper on AR-327. Take AR-the 74W to Ponca. Take AR-43N to Co Rd 121 in Compton. Take Co Rd 19 to Hemmed-In Falls. It's a 30.7 mile (~52 min.) drive from Parthenon

Whitaker Point/Hawksbill Crag is . It's the most photographed spot in Newton County - talking about the "Hawksbill". Be incredibly careful hiking this trail. Fifteen minutes from your cabin is Alum Cove Trail. It's a great trail and has outdoor cave rooms that are interesting. It also has a water feature and a natural bridge. This is probably the easiest hike to take simply because it's the closest and least populated. (None of the trails are that populated, but some more than others.)

Camping and camping with horses. However, it's a beautiful drive through the campground if you're in the Ponca area. Folks also put into the river from the campground.
