Our latest favorite winery. Beautiful setting with spectacular views for wine tasting. Very nice, reasonably priced wines. A bit of a drive- about 1/2 hr from here, but worth it. Combine it with a hike up Lower Table Rock in the Spring. Great day!

Crater Lake is a must-see! Only 1.5 hrs from Mel-Ohana, the lake is a National treasure. Make it a day and enjoy the drive up with stops along the Rogue River, Union Creek/Beckie's Cafe (ice cream and pie, Oh My!), returning via Klamath Lake Westside Rd., Lake of the Woods, Hyatt/Howard Prairie Lakes, and the Greensprings. It's one of my favorite motorcycle journeys!

This is one of our guests' favorites! Take a half-day cruise down the Rogue River from Grants Pass, through the Hellgate Canyon, and then have a Champagne brunch at Hellgate Lodge. On the way back, prepare to get wet if it's a sunny day and you're seated in front!! Really a great trip for kids of all ages!

Outdoor activities

Forest Park is an 1800 acre hiking jewel only 15 minutes from Mel-Ohana. The trail system just keeps growing, with a variety of trail experiences. From hilltop views (with benches) to small cascades and creekside wandering, this is one of my faves to take my dogs and spend a few hours.

Hiking to the top of Upper or Lower Table Rocks is a Spring favorite activity! Of course, you can go anytime of year, but for us the blooming flowers, small pools and magnificent greening makes for a memorable adventure. The views from the top are expansive! (Sorry, no dogs allowed.)

Venture along the only trail to the lake level and either take a boat ride out to Wizard Island or just jump in the lake for a refreshing swim before your hike back up out of the caldera. Bring plenty of water!! Tickets for the boat ride must be purchased in advance.

Rent a cabin or go camping at one of the campgrounds. There are several boat ramps. You could rent a boat and go fishing, or swim in the crystal clear water. Try exploring and hiking any of the nearby trails, including a trail to the top of 9300 ft. Mt. McClaughlin (pictured). This is only one of a number of lakes up on the plateau only 40 miles from Medford!

This is a very family-friendly place with 3 lift chairs and a lodge with ski rentals, food, a bar, and that small-town feeling. The runs are fairly short, but take Ariel chair to the top of the mountain and experience several double black diamond runs if you're seeking a challenge! Cross-country trails are also accessible from the end of the parking area. Only a little over an hour from Mel-Ohana!
