Quaint

a quaint town with lots of second hand shops. No Crowds at all as it's off the main tourist route. Head south from Timaru and turn off right about halfway to Oamaru at the café corner. Visit the historic hotel and restaurant recently refurbished. and Bushtown

Sightseeing

This is close by and a lovely park to walk through. Going across it is also a nice way to get to the sea through the cemetery track That way is also is an alternative way to walk to the Timaru Wetlands or the beach, rather than driving)

Traveler advice

Don't miss

Visit the Timaru wetlands

Start from bridge at Timaru's Southern boundary. From there walk east for wetlands on the south side of the bridge or walk west along Timaru's extensive walkways. Westward takes you to the lovely Centennial park(more like farmland) along the creek, but there are a number of places to leave the walkway if that proves too far.
What to pack

bring walking shoes and plenty of warm clothes in winter.

Timaru is cold in winter and though often sunny, parts of the day are likely to be frosty. So bring warm clothes and layer if you are out walking. in winter it cools down about 4pm considerably
