Utrecht has an attractive old center and is very close to Tienhoven. You can even go by bike although it takes at least half an hour. At least as old as Amsterdam but smaller. You can do everything by foot. • Again, lots of canals • Dom church and tower http://www.domtoren.nl/de • DOMunder. Tour under the DOM tower with lots of info about the history of Utrecht http://www.domunder.com/en • Shopping can be best done in Hoog Catherijne (indoor shopping mall in and around central station) or the little boutiques around the canals • On Saturday there’s a nice flower market at St. Janskerkhof. Utrecht has nice museums as well: • Centraal Musem, variety of art, design, fashion etc. from different ages. • Catherijne Convent: religious art (paintings and pieces). If you go by train you can park the car at Utrecht Overvecht station https://goo.gl/maps/pqNmnQoARvyXP8559. Trains to Utrecht Centraal will take you there in less than 5 minutes.

Amsterdam is always busy however you can avoid crowds by doing the right activities (on the right times). Friday till Monday are busiest. By Tuesday all weekend guests are gone. Go by foot if you only visit the center (good shoes) or buy a day pass Public Transport http://en.gvb.nl/ontdek-amsterdam/gvb-dag-meerdagenkaart If you are able to stay only one day I recommend the following: • Take a canal boat tour. You gets lots of information and are able to see a big part of the city (they are everywhere) • DAM square: see the royal palace. If you’re there you can easily visit the Jordaan (nice neighborhood between canals westside) and the Begijnhof http://www.begijnhofamsterdam.nl/ • Eat something typically Dutch like pancakes or something Dutch Asian like Indonesian food. • Visit a Museum (and buy tickets in advance): Rijksmuseum is our favorite. • Anne Frank house (que takes ages, so you need to buy tickets in advance online!). Go on a weekday. It’s small inside so not for claustrophobic people. http://www.annefrank.org/#_=_ • Vondelpark (near Leidse square). Amsterdam’s largest park. http://www.hetvondelpark.net/ Amsterdam museum: Advice: buy e-tickets in advance to avoid long lines. You don’t need to print tickets in the Netherlands, scan your phone will do. • Rijksmuseum is the prettiest but also most busy. Come very early or late in the afternoon https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/ • Van Gogh Museum: largest collection of van Gogh. If you want to see van Van more Gogh I recommend the Kroller-Muller Museum at the Veluwe with the second largest collection of Van Gogh’s in the world. It’s in a National park where you can also borrow white bikes to take a tour through the National Park (deer’s and boars). It’s a 50 min ride. See https://www.hogeveluwe.nl/en/discover-the-park • Stedelijk Museum (next to Van Gogh and rijksmuseum) is the Modern Art museum of Amsterdam https://www.stedelijk.nl • Anne Frank house (que takes ages, so you need to buy tickets in advance online!). Kinderdijk has nineteen original windmills that the Water Boards use to drain the polder. Overwaard's wooden mills and Nederwaard's brick mills use wind power to move water from the polders to the basins. Spanning up to thirty metres, these groundsailers barely miss the ground as their sails turn.

Marken and Volendam are both historical fishermen towns close to Amsterdam. Volendam is most famous but also busy, packed with tourists. We like Marken more. You can visit both because of the boat connection they share.

The city of Dutch painter Vermeer. We like Delft a lot. It’s old and has a good vibe, with nice streets, shops, bars etc. Close to Den Haag and Rotterdam. You can visit museums, the old church, the flea market on Saturday or go to Royal Delft where they make the famous Dutch porcelain.

Getting around

Speed controls

Around Tienhoven on the highways (A2 Amsterdam) and Zuilense ring (Utrecht) there are Traject controles. They monitor your speed along the road. On the way to Loosdrecht and Hilversum speed camera's are hidden in the bushes. Also in our village they are quite often measure your speed (max 30 km/hour) . Fines are very high compare to other countries so please mind your speed.
