Eck and Ramona's Dining Faves

These are the places that we go to when we want to eat out. We're not interested in "what's in", we don't care so much about food that "makes a statement", we don't get any kickbacks from these places, this is just our plain old advice on good places to eat.
This is one of our favorite places for special breakfast days. Creative and yummy mexican influenced creations, and very cool atmosphere. It can be very busy on weekends though, so either go early or prepare to wait.

We go here when we want tasty *traditional* American breakfast diner: eggs-n-bacon, cheap coffee, a waitress that will still call you "honey". Note: There is a Mike-n-Rhondas on Milton on the westside too, but it has become overrun by tourists and students...just lost it's mom n pop small town feel. That's why we go to this east side one. Just a few minutes drive down Route 66, and you can sit with "normal people"; these are the real "people of the area".

This is our go-to for special occasions. Really nice for that special anniversary or birthday dinner. It's in a converted old Flagstaff house, so the atmosphere is super. Great food, skilled and professional service. Definitely upscale and be prepared to spend $50-$100 per person...but worth it for that special moment.

This is our favorite pizza place. If you want "Gucci pizza", this is not the place (try Pizzicletta for that). The pizza here is just normal and quite excellent. Local family biz that's been around forever...and now has three locations. There is a downtown location on San Francisco too that's equally good (and has nice terrace for summer beers); we are listing the south side one because it's closest to Kolibri Cabin and has tons of free parking.

Drink and a snack: places to meet friends

These are the places that we personally favor when we're going to meet some friends for "drinks and a snack".
The Annex is a small local bar favored by what I'd call "local professionals": teachers, lawyers, business people, artists...that sort of white collar crowd. They pour STRONG here, so take it slow. Very professional bar staff, highly knowledgeable about mixology and take pride in their work. A recently added outside patio area is fantastic in the summer months! Try their "fried brussels sprouts" as a snack, they're awesome!

Neighborhoods

Downtown Flagstaff is always worth exploring. The first Friday of the months is Art Walk day where local artist showcase their work at several business in downtown. During summer, each Saturday there is a 'Movie on the square event' - a free outdoor movie event with local artists at the pre-event. Check out their FB page 'Downtown Flagstaff.'

Getting around

Park for free in downtown Flagstaff

Lots of our guests enjoy an evening in Flagstaff's charming downtown area. Starting several years ago, Flagstaff added paid parking coverage to the entire downtown. $2/hour, not terrible. If you want to avoid it and don't mind a nice stroll, recognize that it's only the immediate downtown area that's covered. Try putting "Flagstaff City Hall" into your GPS, then parking in the neighborhood west and north of there is free. It's only a 5 minute walk to the Heritage square, which is the heart of downtown.
