This old mill on river Jadro was renewed few years ago and looks great (exterior and interior). There are nice walk paths around it where you can enjoy the river humming and there’s a coffee bar right across it, so you can have your morning fuel with an amazing view.

Locals and tourists alike flock here for perfect pasta, tempting tuna, savoury seafood and whatever the chef has in mind. This little place on Sperun square has wormed its way into a number of guidebooks. It’s not bad at all. A portion of your better quality fish will set you back about €12 but that’s a reasonable deal. The service is young and enthusiastic but reserve ahead, especially on Saturday night.

We’d been coming here for years to enjoy the pizza which is probably the best in Split with a perfect, puffy crust. A steady stream of locals seem to agree.

No city is truly cosmopolitan unless it has a vegetarian restaurant and Makrovega represents Split's entry onto the veggie-vegan circuit. Unfortunately, the theory seems to be that eating vegetables coincides with an early bedtime as this restaurant closes in the early evening.

Imagine a place run by your hippie parents who have strange and interesting friends and who also love to eat. There might be music and singing but there's sure to be good cooking Dalmatian-style.
