The 8.5 mile Discovery Trail crosses a broad Pacific beach, grassy dunes, seaside forests and postcard-ready ocean bluffs. You can bike it or walk it, and if you tackle all, or even a portion, of this remarkable mostly paved trail, you’ll be treated to some of the state’s most exhilarating seaside scenery, while enjoying stimulating art and interesting interpretive exhibits along the way. Discovery Trail above the Long Beach Peninsula You’ll also gain a new appreciation for the compelling history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The 8.5-mile Discovery Trail joins the popular vacation town of Long Beach on the north end of the peninsula and the historic fishing village of Ilwaco near the mouth of the Columbia River to the south. Unlike many trails that connect towns, this one doesn’t parallel the highway in sight of traffic, but slices its own route through landscapes that attract photographers, painters and wildlife. Spend a short time on the trail and you’ll understand why.

The entire community is on the National Historic Register and the original one-room schoolhouse and church are still in use for community events. The church hosts summer vespers and the school is alive during the August Jazz & Oysters in Oysterville. The Oysterville Post Office is oldest continuously operating Post Office in Washington. When strolling the streets of Oysterville, one truly feels as though time has stood still for more than one hundred years. Enjoy a walking tour of historic Oysterville, where you’ll learn more about the history of this fascinating town.

This is a wonderful place to walk and enjoy birds and other wildlife. Willapa National Wildlife Refuge consists of over 17,000 acres of tidelands, temperate rainforest, ocean beaches, and small streams. It also includes several rare remnants of old growth coastal cedar forest. Preserving habitat for spawning wild salmon, hundreds of thousands of migrating shorebirds and waterfowl, and threatened species such as the western snowy plover and marbled murrelet, the refuge is the place to see what the Pacific Northwest looked like over 100 years ago.

Oysterville Sea Farms was founded to generate revenue for the restoration and preservation of the last oyster cannery left in Oysterville. Oysterville Sea Farms continues to use and develop sustainable aqua-culture practices. We provide ongoing employment in an effort to keep the "Oyster" in Oysterville. Washington State is the only state on the west coast that allows the purchase and sale of tideland. Private ownership of tidelands motivates farmers to sustainably harvest their tidelands in an ecologically beneficial way. Oysterville Sea Farms is the steward of over 200 acres of privately owned tideland. In recognition of Oysterville's influence on west coast aqua-culture, the Oysterville Sea Farms cannery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 21, 1976. This was key to Oysterville being designated a National Historic District.

Ocean Park - Founded in 1885, when the area was still part of Washington Territory, and now thought to be the oldest continuing retail business in the state, Jack’s Country Store maintains traditions of rural America. Our general mercantile is the real thing, a fact that becomes immediately evident to first-time visitors who marvel at the wood floors, rolling track ladders, enormous oak showcases, rotary dial phones, and a beautiful stained glass ceiling, all functional fixtures in the store. Known far and wide for the huge inventory and broad array of merchandise, it is nearly impossible for two or more people to agree upon the single most unique feature of Jack’s Country Store. Food lovers have their favorites, including mouth-watering jerky, sausages, smoked salmon, and smoked oysters from our in-store smokehouse – treats so good that they helped them become one of the largest sellers of smokehouses in the nation.
