In heart of campustown..,,Out of this world, the absolute best Kung Pao Chicken. The owner manager may seen grouchy but she is really shy. Egg rolls are nice and crispy. General Tso's chicken is also nixe and crunchy and not soggy. Good free soup with order of food. Fast and served to you at the table. Has been in Ames since 1980's.

The best BBQ in Ames with meat that literally falls off the bone. Superb pork tenderloin sandwich (quite mammoth!). Fun atmosphere.

Pretty darn good Thai food for Ames, Iowa. Not many places, but this is the one we love and that has consistently good food and good prices. Friendly too!

A very nice place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Interesting items on the menu, not cheap though. Good service; nice atmosphere, but out of the way on the north side of town. Always a long line so plan ahead.

One of the best grocery stores in the entire nation. If you can't find it here . . . from health food to booze, to Iowa beef to Anderson Erickson's famous cottage cheese and dips, then you'll have a hard time finding it anywhere else. Stock up the kitchen pantries with loads of delicious food, groceries and beverages and enjoy your time in our home!

Just a half-hour west of Ames is a wonderful old train ride that kids and adults all love. In the fall, the colors changing provides a colorful background for a train ride in the hills of central Iowa.
