Great local hangout, only 5 minutes away. Go to place for a burger, fish tacos, etc. Also a great place to grab a "nightcap" after the kitchen closes down.

If you're looking for a place to eat in Vail that doesn't empty your wallet, this is the place. It is in the "Lionshead" part of Vail, so you'll most likely want to catch the town bus if you are parked in main Vail.

Holy Toledo's has great discounts on some high quality clothes that don't get sold in the upscale Vail restaurants. Many other shops there have some really cool items unique to the area.

Shopping

Probably the closest place with a plethora of options for grocery shopping. You could go East to Leadville as well, but there are less options there for groceries.

Get out on an ATV, snowmobile, side by side, or join a friendly game of paintball with friends and family. Less than two miles from Snow Cross Inn, this is an opportunity not to miss if you want to get out and see what the National Forest has to offer.

Though it is pricey, you are getting a lot for your money. The mountain is huge with plenty of awesome expert terrain and fast moving lifts. There is also a cool little resort called Adventure Ridge at the top with tubing, skating, ski biking, etc. if you want to go play on the mountain but skiing isn't your thing. During the summer, you can rent bikes to ski down, or take the super cool mountain "coaster".

Great Nordic skiing 10 minutes away. Also has fat bikes for biking on the snow, if we don't have fresh snow for downhill skiing or snowmobiling, this is a fun way to adventure in the winter.

This is the ski mountain to go to if you are a beginner skier on a budget. Combine this mountain with rentals from Alpine Ski and Sport in Leadville, and you're paying about 25% per day of skiing than any of the larger resorts. Smaller mountain with slower lifts, but this is really all most skiers visiting the area need, and you can save the money for a fancy dinner in Vail!

A beautiful destination at the end of an average length hike. For an added challenge, attempt in winter with poles/tracks on your shoes and/or snowshoes. The lake looks awesome in winter when the water freezes from the falls, but you will definitely need this winter gear for your boots as it does get slippery and steep at the top.

If you want to say you've done a 14'er, this is one of the "easier" hikes above 14,000 feet in Colorado. That being said, it is still a 14'er, so the terrain does get steep and technical at the top. If you are not an experienced hiker, attempt at your own risk.

Sightseeing

One of the older training facilities for the US military, so much cool history here. Pull off just past nova guides and you'll see a little history here. During the summer you can drive up the dirt road even in a sedan and check out some of the signs on the sides of the road to see some of the amazing history to this location only two minutes away by car.
