Best place to get beer! OK for wine if the SAQ is closed. It is facing St Laurent metro station so quite convenient when coming home! This is a corner grocer run by a large grocery store chain, so it's an amazing 'dep' by montreal standards (normally they basically sell beer and chips). Although they only have one type of anything (one brand of peanut butter etc) but it's convenient and they have lots of prepared meals that you can pick up on the way home. I love the salads large enough for a meal for under $10.

Shit the locals do!

Every sunday Park ave and Mount Royal st. Very bohemian experience, free, at least a hundred drummers playing all day, people dancing, selling food, selling drums, capoeira, midieval battle reconstructions, slacklining... Very Montreal. Check out the mountain while you're there and Mount Royal street for shopping

Out for drinks

Great small bar, show up early or you'll end up in line. Waiters/bartenders interview you as to your tastes and suggest a drink you've never heard of before that will be delicious in my experience! Modeled after a speakeasy.

Modeled after a speakeasy. Very trendy spot, front door is just a black door with no signage, place is in the basement, first time I had orange wine was here. Not cheap.

Duluth street between St Laurent and St Denis (maybe a bit wider than that) is FULL of bring your own wine restaurants. Really great for a cheap meal with no corking fees. Several dozen restaurants in a short walk...
