Arts & Culture

The "House of Terror" is a museum that takes you on a journey into Hungary's foggy past of faschist and communist oppression. The museum serves as a memorial for all the innocent Hungarians that died during the last years of the second world war and in the decades of Communist dictatorship that soon followed. After the the museum's thought-provoking journey, you'll perhaps understand the Hungarian "melancholic spirit" a little more. :)

Embraced by the river Danube on both sides, Margitsziget (Margaret Island) is a true sanctuary dividing the sloppy hills of Buda from from the flat plains of Pest. It is a huge green area punctuated by recreational facilities such as a small zoo (entrance is free), a big fountain, a public bath, ruins of an 800 years old monastery, and a Japanese garden. The island is surrounded by a running track with a breath-taking view on the river Danube. How about that as an incentive for a quick workout session?
