Hiking Trails
Here are a few hiking trails near the house that I would recommend. I've labeled them with the trailhead name and then the length of the full trail.
About 5 miles for the full loop, great views of the valley with natural desert landscape. This is the closest trail to the house.

This is by far my favorite place to hike that's nearby. There are a number of trails that connect and wind through the preserve, so you can cater your hike to your liking. I usually do a smaller loop of about 3 miles. There is a lot of natural desert beauty that you wouldn't expect so close to the city.

Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve
1600 East Sonoran Desert DriveThis is by far my favorite place to hike that's nearby. There are a number of trails that connect and wind through the preserve, so you can cater your hike to your liking. I usually do a smaller loop of about 3 miles. There is a lot of natural desert beauty that you wouldn't expect so close to the city.
This trailhead is a little farther from the house and much harder in difficulty. Definitely come prepared for some elevation change compared to the other hikes. However, there are some amazing views of the east valley and some interesting rock formations. There are a couple places in this area that are marked for rock climbing/bouldering.

Tom's Thumb Trailhead
23015 N 128th StThis trailhead is a little farther from the house and much harder in difficulty. Definitely come prepared for some elevation change compared to the other hikes.
