Favorite things to do

This guide is my own favorite things to do in the city. Everything is personally tested and vetted ;)
If you are here during the summer, there is A LOT of nice places you can go for a swim and a tan and 'Bryggen', as it is called, is definitely one of them. It is buzzing during summer and it is a real hangaround spot where people lie down on the grass and the pier, play games, jump into the harbour and drink rosé in the sun!

In the summer this place is a great hang-around spot with the outdoor bar Riga where you can get a light and cheap meal (or you can buy great pizzas from around the corner at Gastronomia Italiana Dieci or Itzi Pitzi Pizza) and drinks, wine and beer which you can enjoy on the grass. Maybe remember to bring a blanket to sit on and you are good to go! :)

Take a stroll around the neighborhood Christianshavn and enjoy the cobblestone streets, the canals running through the streets, the colorful old warehouses and of cause the very unique place 'Christiania', the free town with self-built curled and curvy houses and the marijuana booths. Walk fx around the streets 'Wildersgade', 'Overgaden Oven vandet', 'Prinsessegade' which will lead you to Christiania and 'Strandgade' which you should walk all the way to the end and there you will find the great restaurants Barr (sister restaurant to Noma, the 2 star Michelin restaurant) and 108 (1 star Michelin + the cheaper version The Corner 108 which is both a great pastry and coffee place during daytime and turnes into a wine bar with sharable dishes in the evening) and for a lower budget there is the outdoor food market right at the bridge 'Inderhavnsbroen' which connects Christianshavn with the area Nyhavn.

Walk all the way through the street 'Prinsessegade' after visiting Christiania at Christianshavn and keep on walking 'til you see the Opera. Continue straight at the street now called Danneskiold-Samsøes Allé and when the road turns right, you can follow it 'til you get to the Noma restaurant (maybe just to see it from the outside, it is a quite beautiful place). Go even further out at the 'Krudtløbsvej'/Refshalevej street and you will get to the place La Banchina. It is an amazing little place with home-cooked, organic and local, simple food, often grilled outside. You can enjoy it by sitting with your toes in the water fromt the small pier. And you can even jump into the water and get cooled off. So remember to bring your bathing suit and a towel! Also, if you do not want to walk that far, you should rent a bike - actually, you should always rent a bike anyway, it is the best way to get around in Copenhagen and everybody bikes!

The beach at Amager is the biggest and nicest beach close to the city. So if it's sunny and warm and you want to go to a real beach then this is your very best option. It's only 6km from home so if you rent a bike you can easily get there. There are ice cream shops and some food trucks and there is also a supermarket close by if you want to do a picnic.

This café is hidden underneath the bridge right at the building 'Børsen' (stock exchange). It's called Kayak Bar because you can actually rent a kayak and go sailing in the canals of the city. You can also just chill at the café/restaurant in a beach chair on the fake beach that they have built on a floating pier on the water. At night in the summer time it turns into a dance floor inside (under the bridge)!

Copenhagen is famous for its beautiful canals and what better way to enjoy it than on a boat?! At Islands Brygge you can rent a boat for max. 8 people and you will be guided by the staff in where to go and how to navigate the boat (so easy, but pretty slow though - it's electric!). You are allowed to bring your own food and drink onboard.

This street is one of my favorite streets in the hole city. Even though it's quite short it hold so many great shops, take-away places, cafés and restaurants. It has a quite frenchy feeling and if you want a great meal on the go you can grab a homemade sandwich at the cheese shop 'Helges ost' where you can get almost any kind of combo of charcuterie and cheese you want - I can recommend the fennel sausage! The restaurant 'Le trois Cochons' is also so, so good - both for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the café 'Granola' is also a very good breakfast place. 'Viben fiskehus' is a fish market and also take-away and you can get a delicious lobster roll and fish'n'chips. My favorite interior design boutique is 'Dora' - maybe buy a Danish design souvenir there?

If you want to get out of the city towards more nature this place is fantastic. It's only about 20min. by train from the Central station and is situated in the town 'Jægersborg' north of Copenhagen. Bring your picnicbasket and a blanket and you're good to go! The park is at the UNESCO world heritage list. It was originally made as the king's hunting fields outside the city and today it is home for thousands of deer.

This museum is my new favorite of museums in the city. Although it's about 50min. from the Central station in the town 'Helsingør' it's definitely worth a visit. It's a museum of the Danish history as a seafaring nation for centuries and it's a very interactive, fun museum! And while you're at it you can visit the old castle in the town, 'Kronborg' which is famous for housing the statue of 'Holger Danske', the safe-keeper of the nation and the Shakespeare play Hamlet. The castle is at the UNESCO world heritage list.

The first thing you need to do is rent a bike! It's the easiest way to get around in the city and everyone here bikes so the infrastructure for it is great. This place, Donkey Republic, makes it very simple with many pick-up places and an app with maps and everything. The longer you rent the bike for, the cheaper it gets. For instance, 4 hours for 60DKR and 2 days for 175DKR.
