Austrian spot with a twist. A bit upscale but the food is worth it. Decor is super cool––makes you feel like you're in an authentic Grimm's fairy tale.

Not only does this place have world class cocktails, their food menu is consistently great. Can't go wrong with their cauliflower, and sausage and ricotta bread. During the weeknights they put on good shows with live music acts.

Arts & Culture

This is one of the most iconic community gardens of the Lower East Side. Activists joined with artists to build it and keep it there. Wander around and look at some of the murals (one of them is still there from the 70s) and check out some of the sustainability efforts they have throughout the garden. The land artist Gordon Matta Clark is rumored to have built the ampitheater stage.

If you're into modern and contemporary art, this is a spot for you. They just moved into this building, and always have interesting and important art shows. Stunning views of Chelsea and the Meatpacking district as well. Head over to the highline right after that, just a stone's throw away, for a stroll.

Shopping

This is a vintage and upscale/designer consignment shop. You can find some steals here, very New York-forward fashion.
