The Newt in Somerset is a recently renovated country house estate and gardens with much more besides. The restoration has been carried out with no expense spared and with true integrity using local materials and craftsmen. You can eat in the outdoor cafe or the restaurant, sample the cider made on site, and take guided tours of the gardens and cider house. You can then buy bread, meat, and wine from the owners' Babylonstoren estate in South Africa, to take home with you for dinner. The Newt is c. 40 minutes walking distance from Castle Cary mainly on footpaths or a short 5 minute drive with free parking. Well worth a visit.
