At the Rijksmuseum, art and history take on new meaning for a broad-based, contemporary national and international audience. As a national institute, the Rijksmuseum offers a representative overview of Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages onwards, and of major aspects of European and Asian art. The Rijksmuseum keeps, manages, conserves, restores, researches, prepares, collects, publishes, and presents artistic and historical objects, both on its own premises and elsewhere.

Traveler advice

Book before you go

Make sure you make a reservation

Due to the coronavirus, there are currently extra safety measures in place so that you can safely enjoy your trip to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, you need to make a reservation for dinner, any terrace, or every museum you want to go to.
Getting around

The metro is the most efficient means of transport

To use the metro, tram, bus, or train in Amsterdam it's the cheapest way to Purchase an OV-chip. With an OV-chipkaart in your pocket, you no longer need to think about separate tickets: you will pay for all your public-transport journeys with your OV-chipkaart! You load the card with credit in euros or add a travel product to it, such as a single journey, a monthly pass for commuting, or a season ticket. Then you can start traveling! You can can be purchased i.a. at stations, at counters of operators, in newsagents and in supermarket for only 7,50 euro.
Getting around

Parking in the area of the apartment is very expensive

Therefore I would suggest to only park in the area to unload the car and afterwards park it in one of the p+r parking places which you can find on this website. https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/plan-your-trip/getting-around/parking/park-and-ride
Customs and culture

Household waste should put into the correct container

In our neighborhood, household waste should be sorted by type and put into the correct designated containers. You can find the container at the beginning of the Vondelpark --> Vossiusstraat. You should deposit your household waste in the designated containers for each type: glass, paper, plastic packaging, and drinks cartons, textiles, and ‘residual waste’ (other). If you need more information about the different types of containers do not hesitate to aks!
