Their sandwiches are well crafted and always delicious. We love the BBQ Asian Tofu and the Asian Flank Steak but every sandwich we’ve ordered from Mitchell is fantastic. They’ve also got a pay by the weight soup/salad bar.

We walk here once a week in the evening when it cools down for ice cream (A double dip of Salted Honey in a waffle cone is worth the walk!). They are also the only drive through coffee shop on the East Side!

Maybe a little pretentious about the stuff, but it’s a damn fine cup of coffee. Even if you aren’t into sweeter interpretations of your cup of joe, their mocha is really the bees knees!

Nashville Biscuit House is a no frills local spot that offers nothing fancy but a lot of food for not a lot of money. It’s full of locals and while there is often a wait, the line moves fast and it’s worth it after maybe spending too much time and money on Broadway the night before.

Nashville Farmer’s Market is about 15 minutes from our house and if you are here on a weekend, it’s worth the trip to check out the vendors and eat lunch in their food court full of local restaurants and pop ups. Even on the weekdays, this is the spot for lunch if you’re hungry and have got different tastes to please.

Butcher & Bee is the second interpretation of this spot (OG is in Charleston) but it’s a winner every time we go. Definitely sit at the chef’s table (most of the time you don’t even need a reservation) and watch the kitchen put together your meal. We recommend ordering as many of the small plates as you can (definitely the whipped feta though!).

Peninsula is a new addition to the east side and is perfect for a date night. Portions are smaller and it’s more expensive than our other recommendations but it’s worth every penny. Every single item on the menu is worth the price you pay. The tomato toast is not to be missed.

Desano’s is our favorite pizza in Nashville. Big wood fired ovens deliver consistently delicious pizzas that remind of our time in Italy (maybe even better, seriously). If you go for happy hour you can get a margarita pizza for $10. The restaurant allows you to bring your own wine too so bring a couple bottles and enjoy the cheapest meal in town.

Wild Cow (and Graze, their sister restaurant next door!) are our favorite restaurants in East Nashville and just happen to be vegetarian. They appeal to meat eaters as well and are next door to one another so if one if busy the other is usually able to seat you.

Two Ten Jack is our favorite ramen in Nashville and rivals our favorites in bigger cities as well. We are partial to vegetarian options but we think their vegetable ramen is the best on the menu.

Five Points Pizza is our favorite take out pizza place on this side of town. They serve New York style slices and have got a great happy hour if you can eat in before 6pm (a slice and a draft beer for $8 or a slice and a PBR for $5).

Pied Piper Ice Creamery is a local spot with no frills but delicious ice cream. In the Five Points neighborhood, it’s a lovely spot to walk to and eat your cone on their porch. The single scoop is more than enough, it’s huge!

Five Daughters Doughnuts serves “cronut” style 1000 layer donuts and paleo donuts (the paleo donuts are my favorite!). While they’ve got locations throughout Nashville (and even one donut truck in Seaside, FL!) the closest to our house is on Eastland in East Nashville. You’ll probably want to split a 1000 layer donut as they are decadent.

Drinks & Nightlife

Fox Bar is a small cocktail lounge in Inglewood that is newer to us but absolutely perfect in every way. The best and most expansive cocktail menu in Nashville, it’s also home to some stellar and affordable charcuterie boards that are customizable to every diet and palate (even vegan!).

Parks & Nature

We bring our dog Luke here a lot to get out of the city. It's only about 15 minutes away but it feels like much more once you are on the ridge trail. No scenic overlooks but a really great trail to get some exercise and fresh air.

This is our favorite hike within an hour of town (maybe a bit more). It's not a strenuous hike but it takes about a half mile of hiking through a river to get to the falls where you can set up your spot and swim in the pools. Bring a picnic and enjoy a hot summer day!
