The Pamplemousses garden is a popular tourist attraction in Pamplemousses, near Port Louis, Mauritius. Famous for its long pond of giant water lilies. The garden was first constructed by Pierre Poivre in 1770, and it covers an area of around 37 hectares. It is known by botanists from around the world for the large collection of indigenous and exotic plants that grow there. The talipot or coryphe parasol is of particular interest: the legend says that it flourishes only once every fifty-seventy years then dies.
