Hai Thuong Lan Ong medicinal herb Street is in the middle of district 5. It is named after a great Vietnamese physician in the 18th century. The street is almost completely surrounded by many medicinal herb stores and herbal clinics, where people get the chance to see how traditional Chinese medicine is made and used.. Surprisingly, the smell of herbs widely spread throughout the area making ambience here more interesting. Since a traditional medicinal herb street was officially opened in District 5, the district has drawn more tourists. In addition, on this street and nearby streets such streets as Tran Hung Dao, Trieu Quang Phuc, Chau Van Liem and Luong Nhu Hoc, visitors can have a look at blocks of houses built by Chinese people a century ago, combining Chinese and French architectural designs. Besides being known for selling traditional medicinal herbs, Hai Thuong Lan Ong street is specialized in selling decorative items and ornaments, a cultural activity of Chinese Vietnamese in Saigon. On special occasions like Mid-Autumn Festival, or Lunar New Year, the town is spectacularly hectic and adorned with Oriental features. Shops selling thousand kinds of colourful decorative items that are the symbol of luck such as red envelops, artificial yellow apricot and red peach trees, carps, gold coins and gold bars, lights, lanterns, parallel sentences and gifts.. …etc attract thousands of people coming to shop and enjoy the atmospheric scene. The street is always crowded during these periods. It is said that decorative items are not only products for sales but the soul of this Chinese street. At night, the street is very crowded and brighten with glittering colors. If visitors happen to be in Ho Chi Minh City at these times, don’t hesitate to join the crowd of people.

Cho Lon Jamial Mosque The Cholon Mosque is found in the Chinatown – Cholon – of Ho Chi Minh City, is an austere. The clean lines and lack of ornamentation of the Cholon Jamial Mosque contrast starkly with nearby Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhist pagodas. In the courtyard is a pool for ritual ablutions. Note the tiled niche in the wall (mihrab) indicating the direction of prayer, which is towards Mecca. Cholon Mosque was built in 1932, initially to serve Muslims from Southern India who migrated to the area, and is one of four mosques serving Muslims in central Saigon. But since 1975 it has served the Malaysian and Indonesian Muslim communities in Vietnam. Visiting the mosque might be best timed around lunch or dinner, as a tasty halal restaurant is located on the grounds. While a small proportion of the population, Vietnam’s Muslims are among the oldest inhabitants of the county and a visit to their culture should be part of any trip to Vietnam.
