Leith, the old port area, is about a mile away and has been extensively redeveloped. There are excellent bars and restaurants. Ocean Terminal includes shops and a cinema and Britannia is berthed here.

A public park on the opposite side of the road, with free tennis courts. The path beside our house goes under Ferry Road into the park. The park connects with a network of pathways - see Trinity Path.

Pretty much everyone's top priority, at the top of the Royal Mile, which dates back to medieval times. The Royal Mile runs down to Holyrood Palace and Holyrood Park.

Former royal hunting grounds, including Arthur's Seat, an extinct volcano. A relatively easy walk to the top - after all there is an annual race that includes it and six other hilltops!

Free gallery, small enough to see in an hour or so, but with an excellent collection of paintings from Leonardo to the Post-Impressionists. I have no idea why airbnb's system keeps insisting it is in Belford Road... that is the modern gallery, the main gallery is in the middle of Princes Street.
