Sightseeing

So many cool exhibits, including an observatory right outside on the east side of the museum where they do telescope observing on non-cloudy days (Wed-Sun). This is my favorite museum but all the other Smithsonians are amazing as well (other favorites are Natural History and African American)!

Often missed since it's not down by all the other tourist sites. Beautiful Gothic style cathedral (one of the largest in the world) with pieces of Americana embedded throughout (e.g. a piece of the moon from Apollo 11 embedded in the stained glass, Darth Vader as a gargoyle, and more!). Highly encourage taking a tour!

Parks & Nature

Administered by the National Park Service, this park is an oasis in the middle of the city. Escape the hustle and bustle and go for a run or a bike ride on one of the many paved trails along the creek, hike the miles of trails within the hills of the park, have a picnic in the grassy fields, check out the National Zoo, check out the planetarium in the Nature Center, or just grab a book and hang out under the majestic trees. You'll find it hard to believe you're smack in the middle of the city. The park runs up and down the length of the city, so it is accessible from many spots throughout the District (not just where the label is on the map).
