City/town information

Puerto Penasco or "Rocky Point" is a tranquil fishing town just south of the Lukeville US Border in the State of Sonora, Mexico. It has amazing food, shops, seafood, and beaches. It is a quick drive from Phoenix - average 3 1/2 hours. The beaches are beautiful. Unlike many destinations such as Cancun or Puerto Vallarta - Rocky Point does not have as much of the overcrowding. The tide goes way out - so you can often see explorers enjoying the tide pools on the coral reefs. You can view amazing sea life such as whales, dolphins, or little crabs in the sand. Take a cruise on the ocean, kayak, ride the banana boats, horseback riding, rent a polaris/sandrail to ride the sand dunes, get a massage or rent jet skis - all right within close proximity. The town has beautiful artisanal shops with hand blown glass, metal artwork and ceramics for unique souvenirs or gifts. We love the Milagros and Extra Large Coffee Cups. The food features everything for fine dining Mexican food to every day fare such as pizza, pasta, or chicken fingers. There is literally a little something for everyone. Go for the beach and you will fall in love with the people, culture and town.

Traveling with kids

Don't over pack

We have a portable crib and portable high chair for smaller children in the condo. We also have books for the kids to read and cable with a few family friendly channels. The Office has cubicles so you can help keep them organized. Bring hand sanitizer and plenty of sunscreen or beach toys. We have a few sand toys and life jackets but you may want to bring a ball for the pool or digging toys.
Getting around

Slow down in Gila Bend, Ajo, Why and Sonoyata - 25 MPH

Many travelers get caught in the speed traps both on US and Mexican side. Don't go over 25 MPH in these cities.
