Definitely book ahead for lunch or dinner. Walking distance from the house along coastal path about 20 minutes. I’d always check with them in advance as their opening hours can vary and can be quite limited.

It’s worth the walk up the hill to see the views from this pub (or drive up and leave the car!). I would ring ahead to check opening hours.

Food & Drink

Beautiful restored windmill 3 miles from the house. They make their own donuts and queues can get very big. They also make their own chocolate and gin. From time to time they have pop up eateries outside, pizza etc. Before the pandemic they used to do amazing afternoon teas here, you would need to ring to check if they have started doing this again. They serve tea, coffeeetc too. There is also a documentary about them on S4C.

Love this place!! Guests of ours can enjoy 10% off food for up to 4 adults either taking one of the leaflets from the house or if they have all gone just show them the promo photo in this guidebook. (Tell them you are staying at Ty Deryn Y Mor) You need to book ahead. They open for lunch, usually close around 2.30 and then open again for dinner from 5pm. They change the menu regularly. Parking is limited outside the restaurant but they have secured additional parking opposite to the left of the pub and it is signposted. Lunchtime you can take your dog with you and dine upstairs.

The setting of The Harbourfront Bistro is beautiful, especially so in the summer when the sun is shining and the roof is open. Equally wild and wonderful in the winter!!! Lovely hearty menu and service is great. I’d always advise booking as it’s quite small but perfect to head to after a walk on Holyhead Mountain only a short drive from here.

Fabulous spot next to the sand dunes on the drive into Rhosneigr. Huge outdoor seating area plus lots of room inside. You can just go for coffee downstairs or proper meal upstairs. I’d always recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

Lovely lovely place. We stumbled across this when taking our helicopter trip out of the airport just down the road. Fab food and busy as you can expect. So our advice is to book a table even for breakfast/brunch/lunch!! Irish Boxty Breakfast with bacon is my favourite ❤️

Beautiful quaint cafe/restaurant. Opens 7 days a week usually from 10am, also open for evening meals and selling alcohol. Advise booking ahead as it’s limited seating and gets busy! They have started taking a small deposit to secure your booking after having an Easter (2024) season of lots of cancellations and no shows 🫶 lovely spot and has some outside seating. Also has a small boutique shop upstairs. Approx 25 minutes drive from the house and there is a free car park in the centre of Moelfre, just follow the signs as you drive into the village. Head towards to sea and you can’t miss Ann’s Pantry.

Sightseeing

Here you can choose to walk up the mountain, just along the coast, let the kids play on the swings, have ice cream or coffee, admire the hand made model boats being sailed on the lake all in one place. Parking is limited so many people park on the road leading up to the park and walk down. If you are lucky enough to get a space in the car park it is pay & display.

Amlwch port is small yet very interesting. From time to time they have pop up food stands or food festivals so always best to look on social media. Just on outskirts of Amlwch there is the copper mine trail for you to walk.

We haven’t done this walk as yet mainly because we always have the kids with us and there are height restrictions so they are too small. Check online for restrictions given it’s location you have to have good mobility and children can’t be carried. But if you are lucky to get there the views look spectacular.

You can drive up to Penmon Point, you have to pay a small charge at the bottom by the old priory. At the top you can walk over to the lighthouse, tides permitting. There is also a cafe at the top. Gordon Ramsey was there recently! (2022)

This beach has everything on offer, HUGE beach, lighthouse to explore, wild horses, seals of you are lucky, sand dunes, breathtaking views of the Snowdonia range and a forest to explore!! In the Summer months they usually have ice cream vans and pop up coffee stalls. Pack for a good few hours and take a picnic. Great for water sports (not jet skis etc) and you get lots of kite flying. It can get busy and a few years back you’d queue in the tiny lane to get in and park but now they have a system that recognises your number plate and you pay on the way out, they take cards.

Great for kids

This is a great morning/afternoon out for children. Book in advance of arriving, even if it’s ok the same day as they have continued with pandemic processes so if you haven’t booked they will turn you away. They have a fabulous butterfly house where they land on you, reptiles,, insects, small animals. They also have a huge outdoor play area for kids of all ages, and a small soft play centre in doors. Plus a cafe. You can still take your own food and have a picnic outside.

Quirky set up (and in need of updating) but….for children interested in dinosaurs, fossils etc then great venue to explore for a couple of hours. There is no coffee shop etc but there is a gift shop. Also great for those who like crafting as they sell small gem stones etc.

Kids will LOVE it here!!! Natural adventure park with lots of low/zero emission rides, toys, trampolines etc outdoor. They also have an indoor soft play centre. I’d always recommend booking ahead of the day you want to go. There is a cafe but you can also take your own picnic as lots of spaces to decamp and eat. They always celebrate Christmas, Halloween etc so kids join in and get dressed up if they want to. It’s about 40 mins from the house back onto the mainland. Our kids love it here!! Plan to spend the day there.

Milk vending machine based on the road into Treaddur Bay. Fresh local milk dispensed from their machine, and various flavoured milkshakes. The children will love it too as they can ‘milk’ the large cow outside. Our kids said it was the best milk they’d ever tasted. There is also a coffee dispensing machine. There are a few picnic benches outside to sit and enjoy the milkshakes. Card payments only.
