Neighborhoods

We are excited about your upcoming stay at Sunset Vista Villa (SVV) and want to make it as enjoyable as possible. Some of our favorite things Sunrise: Wintergreen Founders Vision Overlook (you will pass it on the way to the condo). Sunset: Sunset Vista Villa patio (best time is during the summer) and/or a short five-minute walk away is a community park (rock outcroppings, dog park, picnic tables, etc.) behind the Wintergreen Fitness and Aquatics Center and 121 Blue Ridge Drive (building with the wooden bear outside). The area provides a stunning 360-degree view and is one of the highest points in Wintergreen. Additionally, Raven’s Roost on the Blue Ridge Parkway looks directly west with no obstructions, remarkable view in general. Also, Blue Ridge Overlook on Devil’s Knob loop, a few minutes from SVV is a beautiful place for sunsets and in general. It’s majestic and many people plan their weddings there!

Food scene

Good beer and atmosphere: Devil’s Backbone, Bold Rock Cider, Blue Mountain Brewery at the base of the mountain, as well as Blue Mountain Barrelhouse and Wood Ridge Farm Brewery at a distance. Good pizza and food: Giuseppe’s Ristorante Italiano at the base of the mountain and The Market (Exxon Station on the mountain) for very decent pizza and great sandwiches. Good Mexican: Margaritas, surprisingly, at the base of the mountain. Good BBQ: Blue Ridge Pig, at the base of the mountain, pretty much good for everything. We’ve done a deep dive into the area and are in love, and could provide so much more information, so if you have any questions, please reach out and ask (we could go on forever).

Check In Instructions

3205 N. Ridge, Roseland, VA 22967 Check-in time is at 4pm, however, we do our best to accommodate early check-ins to get your time on the mountain started. We can also do the same with checkout, which is 11am, but is more difficult if we have new guests arriving that night. Please check with us close to the date of your travel. You will receive a unique code to enter the condo on the day of your arrival. Please dial this code (lights will be blinking) and turn the deadbolt to the right to unlock and turn the doorknob to enter. To lock, dial the code and turn the deadbolt to the left.

Check-in (Water)

Please check upon arrival if the water is NOT functioning or if the water is NOT hot, it's because one or both have been turned off. To turn the water on, in the smaller bedroom look for the yellow valve handle on the pipe in the closet and engage it (you should hear water flowing). If the water is not hot, the breaker is not engaged and it is in the panel behind the door in the larger bedroom. It's marked by red-paint (#'s 10 & 12) and should be in the same position as the others above and below it.
Customs and culture

Check-in cont. (Water)

If this breaker was turned-off (and it shouldn't be during non- winter months) and the condo was unoccupied for sometime, it will take sometime for the water to heat up in the water heater.
Customs and culture

Heating and Cooling

There is a main thermostat in the hallway which controls the central air (coming through the vents near the ceiling) Each bedroom, as well as the dining room, have thermostats (dials) which control the baseboard heating under the windows. Additionally, there is thermostat by the patio doors, which controls the two vents on the floor by the doors. The thermostat by the patio and thermostat dials in the rooms should ONLY be used when weather is extreme (typically the central air is sufficient). If baseboard heating is used, please ensure the blinds are NOT sitting on top.
Getting around

Getting to Sunset Vista (First Way)

If you’re not familiar with Wintergreen, there are two ways from Interstate 64 to get there and both have their advantages. First, you can take Exit 107 (US-250/Crozet) which will take you to US-250 and Route 151 (also called Nelson 151) and fourteen miles of libations; six wineries, two breweries and two cideries at the bottom of the mountain while en-route to SVV. You can find out more here https://www.nelson151.com/about/
Getting around

Getting to Sunset Vista (Second Way)

Second, please check here first due to season, weather and other situations (https://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm) but if clear, you can take Exit 99 (US 250 Afton Waynesboro) on Interstate 64 and once you go under Interstate 64, take your very first right on Route 610 (looks like you’re driving into a parking lot but you’re not). Then you will take the second right on to the Blue Ridge Parkway (North Entrance) and it will take you on a 16-mile-tour of some of the most beautiful overlooks and wilderness in Virginia.

The Wi-Fi at the condo is very good (300 Mbps) and we’ve accommodated several people who work remotely. The cell service is intermittent on the mountain, but getting better each day, so communications are best in the condo. Wi-Fi Network: 3205 North Ridge Password: SunSetVista If you are having trouble calling anyone inside the condo because of your cellular service provider, we suggest calling through the Wi-Fi using messenger apps on your handheld devices.

Pools and Lakes

During the summer, you have access to two pools: Chestnut Ridge about a five-minute drive, and Rodes Farm at the base of the mountain, about twenty-five minutes. Both are a lot of fun. We’ve been told our guests can only go from 2pm to 6pm and can bring up to six guests but the time has never been an issue. Within the summer season, a keychain with the pool pass is in the wooden bowl in the kitchen. Please place it back there when checking out. In addition, there are two lakes offering swimming on small beaches (both with fees). Lake Monocan in the Nelson 151 area.
Customs and culture

Ski Closet and Ski Bench

We also have a ski-closet just outside the condo (key is in the wooden bowl in the kitchen during winter months) to store your equipment after slope time. We also have a ski-bench just outside the condo to make it easy to remove your ski boots.

Da Bears

There are bears in Wintergreen, but don't worry, they won't hurt you, except your pocketbook, if you leave your cars unlocked. They've been known to destroy the interior in their hunt for picnic baskets, so please keep your cars locked and don't leave food in them!
Book before you go

Ski Rentals

Ensure you have your ski equipment rentals done far in advance, there are limited supplies on the mountain and surrounding area.
What to pack

Cold Weather and Rain Gear

Since Wintergreen is at 3600 feet in elevation, it's typically about 10 degrees cooler than below, so bringing the proper cold weather and rain gear is a must.

Place the used towels in a pile in the bathrooms and leave the sheets on the bed. Please return to the wooden bowl in the kitchen; the key to the ski closet during winter, the pool passes during the summer, and the Wintergreen Loyalty cards all-year-long. Also, during the colder months, turn the water off in the closet in the smaller bedroom, and turn off the breaker for the water heater in behind the master bedroom door. Ensure you’ve logged-off of any personal apps on the TVs you may have used. When leaving, please ensure the patio doors are locked, as well as the front door.

"Be Kind to the Blinds"

Of all the things at Sunset Vista Villa we have to fix on a consistent basis it is the blinds. The bamboo blinds in the living room provide a warm light during sunsets but some guests have been too rough when using the rods to open and close them. In addition, the blinds in the bedrooms have fell victim to rough play and being left directly on top of the baseboards heaters, causing them to warp. Finally, the curtain rod brackets have been pulled from the wall a couple of times. So please be kind to our blinds and help us keep up the standards that helped you choose Sunset Vista Villa.
Customs and culture

Ring Camera

For the safety of those staying at Sunset Vista Villa, a Ring camera is located on the front door outside.

Towels (Surcharge for Missing)

Now we know we provide a nice bottle of wine upon check-in and all of the other amenities Sunset Vista has to offer but that doesn't include free towels! We have to ask you to not take them home with you or there will be a $20 surcharge (or property management team always keeps a good tab on them prior to check-in and upon check-out).
