Food scene

The Gadlys is my favourite bar and restaurant on the island. I spent a lot of time there with friends and family, and they have a dog friendly bar area too. If chorizo or squid is on the menu, be sure to try them. The Sunday dinner here is not to be missed

You can't come to Anglesey without trying to the local sea food and there is nowhere better than the Lobster Pot, a 15-minute drive from Cemaes in the lovely area of Church Bay. It's very popular with locals and tourists, so be sure to book to avoid disappointment

Sightseeing

Cemlyn is a bay less than a 10-minute drive from Cemaes. This is definitely Tecwyn's favourite beach, a pebbled-shore with loads of interesting finds. It's one of our favourite walks. It is also great for water sports, like paddle boarding and kayaking. You may even be lucky enough to see seals, dolphins and otters! Separated from the bay by a shingle beach is a brackish lagoon, which is fed by a number of small streams. The site was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1957 and is currently part of the Anglesey Heritage Coast and the Isle of Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Cemlyn estate is owned by the National Trust; the lagoon and its immediate surrounds comprise Cemlyn Nature Reserve. The Anglesey Coastal Path passes through it.

The Anglesey Coastal Path is a 200-kilometre long-distance footpath around the island. Cemaes is a great starting point for covering some of the path, and you will see very different views and geology whether you head east or west!

Traveler advice

Getting around

Getting around Cemaes is best by foot

We are a small village, but there is a lot to explore by foot. If you do want to explore further afield, then there is a bus service which runs from the high street. Be sure to check out the timetables first. There are also local taxi services including La's Cars if that is a better option for you
Don't miss

The pizza's at the small cafe are amazing!

They're only open during seasonal months, but if they are open be sure to get yourself a pizza!
Don't miss

Crabbing on the pier!

Growing up in Cemaes, crabbing at the end of the pier was something we all spent the summer doing. Grab yourselves a bucket, line and some tasty treats the crabs won't be able to resist and enjoy hours of fun. Don't forget to put them back in the sea before you go :)
Ways to save

Walk down to the beach

Leave the car at home, head down the estate and you'll find a little cut through. You'll be in the beach within minutes without having to find and pay for a place to park!
Book before you go

Anywhere you want to eat!

Anglesey is very busy, particularly in peak-seasons. Book any restaurants you fancy ahead of your visit to avoid being disappointed
What to pack

Beach essentials - summer and winter!

I hope you get some fab weather on your trip, but even if you're visiting in winter, the beaches are a must! In summer bring a towel, flip flops, bathing suit, chairs and some fun games for a family day down the beach. In winter bring your wellies, gloves and hat and wrap up warm for a lovely chilly walk along the sand
