This place allows you to explore the crater of Poás Volcano and Laguna Botos through trails, in a cold climate with frequent drizzle. Laguna Hule

Laguna de Hule is approximately 51 km away, roughly 1 hour and 33 minutes from our location. This lagoon is part of the Bosque Alegre National Wildlife Refuge and is located in Los Ángeles Sur de Río Cuarto de Grecia, in the Province of Alajuela. It's important to note that while entry to the lagoon is free, it's worth visiting for its beautiful views, especially for those who enjoy hiking. Along the way to the lagoon, you can make a stop at La Paz Waterfall. There are three separate lagoons divided by a hill of volcanic origin: Hule, Congo, and Bosque Alegre. Laguna de Hule is situated at 400 meters above sea level and covers an area of 40 hectares. It has a depth of approximately 75 meters, making it the deepest natural lagoon in Costa Rica. How to get there? To visit Laguna de Hule, head towards Volcán Poás. You'll pass through Vara Blanca, Cinchona, and Cariblanco (61 km from San José), then head towards Los Ángeles. It's a 6.5 km drive on gravel roads, sometimes dirt and sometimes rocky. You don't need four-wheel drive as long as the road is dry. You can park your car at the Bosque Alegre Lookout parking lot, then walk 500 meters to a guava grove. Turn left, and the path will lead you to the lagoon. Food options? There's a restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious lunch, or you can opt for a picnic. There's a space in front of the lagoon perfect for this purpose.

It's just an hour and a half from our apartment, making it a great choice for a day of adventure, as this waterfall is located in Bajos del Toro, a place full of waterfalls and fun. You could explore more than one waterfall in a day or engage in activities such as rappelling. The experience is unforgettable and awe-inspiring; just a few steps away, you can observe the waterfall cascading into an ancient volcanic crater. With four viewpoints, trees, flowers, forests, gardens, panoramas, birds, and not forgetting all the fantastic hummingbirds that surround you. Although you can see the waterfall from the first stage, the real charm is descending the 350 steps to reach the base – I assure you, you won't regret it. You'll find three viewpoints, each offering a different view of the waterfall: El Palomar, La Vistada, and El Velo de la Novia.
