As the barbican but more so..with river views. The place you go when you've run out of ideas..or don't want to think..hence..oversubscribed much of the time and not as easy to get to as the barbican..go to the Barbican first..

A museum of surgery and medical anomalies!! This is where Damien Hurst got his schtick..imagine the head of a deformed Victorian child with psychopathic tendancies cut in half and put in a jar of formaldehyde...for no good reason! Multiply by a hundred and that's this place..creepy..

Google it..a room..tiled..covered in coffee powder..oil..whatever..a very old man..in a shop coat..several huge grinders..a roaster..loads of sacks of coffee..which is actually ok..I hear..if you know what your doing..it might be for you..if you don't ..hide behind someone who can pretend to..and just..check.it.out...

For a central London "retro items" shop this is very cheap..they like a fast turnover of stock I think. Good for ceramics, brick a brac, lights, some clothes and furniture.

Previously time outs no.1 store of 100 in London (woo woo! Yeah! Whatever!) they source puritanically functional items.. I've previously bought rubber bands and a can opener here..the shop is very badly laid out but a must see I think..

Is this unique and local? NO of course not! It's a department store! But if you're from a far off land..it's an institution! Go to selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols when you want to feel like you don't earn enough..go here if you want to feel like you belong!

It's pretty amazing..Kew is a fantastically beautiful part of London..a major pain in the ass to get to and the tickets are pretty ridiculous but the green house is incredible..it's a day job that requires a very early start but you have to go
