Sightseeing

This is a lovely bay to visit. The Tea Rooms are good and the pub is too. There is a public car park down the hill about 200 metres from the Bay. The only minus is it is quite a steep road down to the beech. Worth a visit though

Lovely little quaint place with a good beach and a couple of cafes and restaurants. There are no shops here just a traditional beach area.

This is the most local beach to the house. At present it is free parking. The beach is about 500 metres from the car park to the left and is lovely and sandy with sand dunes. The Cleveland Way passes through this village on the coast. There are public toilets, a small village store, a fish and chip shop which is open at lunch times and up the village and quarter of a mile is a cafe restaurant called KasKane which is lovely food and good value. There is also the Mining Musuem which has been shut for a while whilst renovations took place and is due to open soon so check availability. This beach is also good for surfers and kayakers.

I haven't personally ridden on this railway but seen in action and it looks fun for families.

My favourite place to visit for fossil hunting

This is a fossil hunters paradise. It is a great place to visit with older children as it is a steep metal stairs to climb down and back up. The path is uneven and care should be taken. Having said that it is worth a visit but it isn't a sunbathing beach. Parking at the top of the cliffs is limited so you may need to park down the road and walk to the path. Take a picnic and refreshments as there is no cafe, shop or toilet facilities at the Port but there is a lovely cafe on the main road.

Food scene

The food in this contemporary pub is excellent as I have eaten here myself on a few occasions. Book in advance though as it is really popular. The Hosts are super and attentive and it is a really clean place to visit.

This is a good traditional pub for food for the family. They often do deals too and is definitely worth visiting. Slight downside that it is quite a small car park but there is a big car park about 200 metres away which is pay and display,

Really good food and reasonably priced. You will need to book as it is very popular and is shut on Sundays. It was made famous in 2019 when Sara Cox from Radio 2 called in to take refreshments. Lovely staff and clean environment.

There is a brilliant restaurant on board the Endeavour called the Orlop Bar & Grill. Book in advance. It is traditionally set out with 'in keeping' tressle style tables and chairs. The food is fantastic, middle of the road price but worth it for the ambiance. Definitely a treat.
