City/town information
History and charm surrounded by the sea, mountains, and nature. Unesco has recently given the city recognition as a Historical World Heritage.
In colonial times, Paraty was a vital port of gold and coffee. However, with the creation of alternative routes, the city was left aside, experiencing almost a century of stagnation. Its geographic isolation guaranteed the preservation of its natural and cultural heritage.
Only in the 1970s, with the construction of the Rio-Santos highway, was the city again integrated into the region. Since then, the municipality has experienced a period of intense touristic, economic and cultural development. Very nice to visit in the afternoon and have dinner in the historic center
