You can park at the Wherwell side of Chilbolton Common, or the Chilbolton side (just past Chilbolton Village shop). Easy, flat walk and bridges across the water meadows. Stop for a coffee at the shop or a drink and food at the Abbott's Mitre.

Beautiful old market town with a single main street full of varied shops, coffee stops, a real butcher and much more. The river runs under the road and you can feed the trout you see swimming in the clear waters.

We are at the southern end of Longparish, but you can walk to the church, pub or village shop within about 3/4 hour if the fancy takes you. Lots of thatched cottages and pretty views.

Traveler advice

Getting around

You'll need your own transport!

Although we can easily reach major roads, there is little public transport in rural Hampshire and no Uber! So if you want to be out and about you'll need a car, or to book taxis in advance. If you want to get to London the cheapest and quickest way is to park at Basingstoke: it's just 20 minutes' drive and there are lots of trains taking less than an hour to Waterloo. Closer stations such as Andover are good too.
