Ballard is a trendy neighborhood outside of the city about 20 minutes away. It is a great alternative to downtown and I highly recommend. It is filled with restaurants and bars. Some noteworthy: The Sexton, Matador, Ocho, Bastille, The Walrus and the Carpenter, Bitterroot, and La Carta de Oaxaca.

Las Margaritas is walkable but not phenomenal. If you are looking for "old school" Mexican food ie chips and salsa, guac, and typical dishes and you want it fast- they are a good option.
