  • Stunningly beautiful location! The little walk to the Truman Track and local beach is magical! We lucked out with gorgeous weather but the chalet was comfortable with everything we needed. Julie was always quick to respond. Loved our visit to the Pancake Rocks as well! A highlight of our road trip for sure!

  • Love this place! Very private and can hear the ocean. Would have loved to stay longer.

  • I would highly recommend staying at Paparoa Whare if you will be staying in the Punakaiki area. The location was great - close to the Pancake Rocks and many other great nearby walks/hikes. The chalet is near the main road and a few other accommodations, but is very peaceful and secluded, so it feels like your own little private paradise! There are two very nice decks and a grill, so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful nature all around you. We had a friendly weka (native bird) visit us a few times during our stay :) Also, from the bedroom window, you can look up and see the stars on a clear night. If you'll be staying long enough, getting groceries from nearby Greymouth or Charleston would be a good idea, so you can prepare meals there. We wish we could have stayed longer as it was an ideal place to get away from it all but still have everything you need!

  • We absolutely loved our stay! Definitely one of our favourite accommodations on our roadtrip from Auckland to Queenstown. The space has everything you could need - we especially enjoyed barbecuing dinner on the deck and exploring the beach (only a quick walk)! The space was sparkling clean and full of windows, offering so much natural light. It felt like our own private oasis! Would recommend in a heartbeat!

  • Julie’s place is an incredible experience during our stay in New Zealand- we absolutely loved being so close to Truman Track (awesome views of the beach) and the house itself is beautiful! We loved being able to dine on the porch and enjoy the surroundings after a day out. I would certainly recommend!

  • Great place to stay. Walking track to get to the beautiful beach takes between 5-10 minutes from this place. Just a couple of minutes drive to Punakaiki rocks and cafe.

  • Great accommodation and location. Will definitely stay again if back in the area.

    Carlos2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay here and it was as good as last time! You can hear the sea and there is a modest sea view too from the living room and deck. Overall it is a very nice place for a couple, quiet and well off the main road and handy to the local attractions.

    Denzil2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely wooden cabin with a nice deck. You are a 5 minute drive away from the pancake rocks and you can take a walking shortcut to the Truman track. All cooking utensils were there and it was a pleasure to stay the evening in with a home cooked meal. Really nice place to stay and we would certainly recommend it!

Stella's Cabin is located in the heart of Paparoa National Park, it's a 5 minute walk to Truman beach or drive/walk 3km South to the Pancake rocks and blowholes. It is a cosy cabin and offers the simple things travellers need on their journey. A comfortable queen bed with fresh linen an outdoor kitchen, shower and flush toilet (see photos). Please note this accommodation is more rustic/basic than our other cottages and is priced accordingly. The cabin has mains power and unlimited WIFI.
    Couples and independent travellers
  • You get what you pay for in a good way. There are some drawbacks when it’s raining and the biting bug are a pain, but just bring some bug spray and plan for sunny days and it’s a blast. The beach front, that is only like 8 minutes away walking, is to die for! The grill setup was awesome and too easy to use.

    Kenneth2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great private little location ideal for a single person or a couple. Very warm, very basic, but all that you need, and just perfect for escaping away and being close to nature.

    Jonathan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place, secluded in a bush setting. Handy to all the beautiful West Coast has to offer! If you’re on a budget, highly recommended.

    Harry2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and cute wee cabin! Loved to be able to easily walk down to Truman’s lookout for sunset. Thanks for a great stay!

    Nikki2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy place with everything you would look for in a West Coast Bach - we had a great two nights, it had everything we needed and more. We loved the set up and location. It stayed super warm we didn’t even need heating. Only regret is not staying longer! We would stay again. Mollie and Ant

    Mollie2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • I read a few reviews before booking Stella’s cabin that said it was a little lacking in amenities, so I didn’t expect much before arrival, however: Stella’s Cabin is a WONDERFUL place to stay! There was absolutely everything my partner and I could need - kitchen faculties all clean and working and more than we needed (and we cooked two biiiiig dinners while there). Kitchen undercover, shower and toilet under cover. Everything was perfectly clean and towels provided and linen were great. There was a heater, but honestly the room collects so much heat from the sun during the day (even on cloudy days) we didn’t find we needed it, even in Autumn. The cabin is lovely and private and in a beautiful setting. A short wander to the Truman Track is lovely and the beach is a fantastic spot for those stunning West Coast sunsets! The friendly wekas and chickens wandering around were a delight too - it’s not a kiwi holiday without a few cheeky wekas! Host’s communication was fast and clear throughout. Honestly, I can think of nothing to fault! A fantastic stay in a beautiful area if you’re after something classically kiwi, very comfortable and affordable! :)

    Arnia2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly what we needed, loved the sound of the ocean near by, and being able to see all the stars at night! The sunsets are gorgeous as well

    Katelin2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a great little place to stay! Easy to find, easy to check in. Just outside the town next to Truman Track down to the beach, you can hear the waves from the cabin. The local dinner to the door from up the road was tasty and affordable and a great tip. Brendan was on hand to answer all our questions. We made use of the BBQ having stocked up on groceries in Greymouth. The cabin is basic, but charming. The outside kitchen is perfect for travellers and although the bathroom facilities are outside and basic, they are perfectly clean and useable. It was pretty rainy for one night of our stay and the place stayed warm and dry - if a little noisy! There are Weka birds for company and you are a very short drive from Punakaiki for the pancake rocks and the pancake stacks at the café! Would happily stay here again.

  • Had a great stay at this incredibly stylish/unique space. Vaughn was very helpful and responsive. Would definitely recommend.

  • Great space and creative touches throughout the house. Vaughn is a wonderful host and super friendly. Would recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area.

    Jd2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I would hugely recommend staying here! Vaughn's place shows so much passion for the surrounding area, using items from the beach for door handles, toilet roll holder, benches (the list goes on.) Its a very unique and inspirational place to stay. Thank you for being a great host.

    Heidi2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay. An unreal location and tremendous host. The beach is 1 min walk where you can see the sun drop into the Tasman sea in the evening and hear it crashing at night as you go to sleep. No TV no mobile phone reception ( the way it should be) Log out and into nature with beautiful walking tracks within a few minutes walk. All of this and the visitors centre and cafe is only 5 mins walk along the road. You can also have an outdoor fire and bath in the evening. Vaughn is a fantastic host full of knowledge of the area and west coast but also pounamu. Kai pai

  • Such a unique place to stay! Vaughn has really put his heart into this place and it shows. All the creative touches are really cool, and we enjoyed hearing him tell us the history of how this place came to be. It's also really spacious, and the proximity to the beach can't be beat. Vaughn was a great host and gave us a lot of good local tips when we areived. Would definitely stay here again.

    Lisa2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience it was to stay in this little treasure of a home. Vaughn is a gifted artist who has added design touches to put you in awe. Every detail is top notch. Cool outdoor tub with candles. Everything you need to cook, one minute walk to beach, two minutes to pancake rocks and great walking tracks. It was a pleasure to meet Vaughn and listen to his wealth of information and stories. My favorite was about the Leavorite rocks. Thanks Vaughn!

    Steve And Debbie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The most amazing thing about this place is the decoration, with lots of household elements made from locally collected stones and driftwood. If you visit Vaughn's place you don't have to look for a modern art museum!

    Helene Hoegsbro2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Vaughn is an incredibly kind and generous host, and his place is a dream. You can feel the love he's put into it as soon as you enter. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the packaged soaps to the folded toilet paper to the wine in the fridge. It's clean and quiet, and 30 seconds from the beach. Definitely one of our favourites stays.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Karen’s. We didn’t get to meet Karen but her partner Nigel was great. He greeted us as we arrived, showed us around and gave us lots of local information. The hot tub was a pleasant bonus.

  • Lovely little place to spend the night full of nice little touches such as local tips, shower gel and shampoo. WiFi didn't connect initially, after moving closer towards the house we were able to get on the network.

  • Nigel and Karen have an amazing accommodation at excellent value for anyone that is passing through the west coast. They are both are extremely friendly and welcoming. The van has absolutely everything you need. Don’t hesitate, just book.

    Chaz2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • It was great to get a taste of caravan living at Karen’s and we were very well provided for. Full kitchen facilities, hob, oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. Everything worked well and we had a good night’s sleep. It is near the main road so there is a little bit of traffic during the evening.

    Jeffrey2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Koru-van is a very nice experience during a New Zealand roadtrip. Nigel was also very nice and helpful in showing us around. The camper has pretty much what you need, and has an excellent location. A stroll at the beach in sunset can be highly recommended, and the hot tub right next to the camper is also very nice to enjoy after a long day. The only thing to note is that the camper can get a bit chilly at night, but there are extra blankets and a hot water bottle in the cabinet. Would definitely stay here again!

Love Punakaiki is a couples retreat located in a treehouse which sits in 3 hectares of native New Zealand bush. The two storied apartment features a tree top library with a glassed ceiling so that you can relax in the canopy of the bush whilst admiring the stars at night. Relax in the bath on the deck which has Rimu trees growing through it and is surrounded by native bush and listen to the sounds of native birds and the ocean which is nearby. A magical escape which is truly unique.
Located in 3 hectares of native NZ and featuring a glass, treetop library and an outside bath in the on a deck near the canopy of the bush. Within easy walking distance of the beautiful Truman Track and the spectacular Punakaiki coastline. Listen to the sounds of the ocean and the native birds whilst soaking in the treetop bath...... absolute relaxation!
Te Miko is a small area 3 kilometres north of Punakaiki. It is surrounded by native bush and is a short walk from the spectacular coastline via the Truman Track. Please note that the nearest eateries are 3 kilometres away so we recommend taking food supplies with you to the treehouse.
  • Serene, relaxing, a totally dreamy retreat .... can't wait to come up with another excuse to stay there!

    Roberta2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely retreat near Pancake rocks, a large space that really feels like a home. Well equipped kitchen, lovely library and bathroom. Definitely recommend. Some really amazing walks near by particularly the river walk near the house.

    Alexis2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • "Love" Punakaiki is a unique, beautiful, magical place surrounded by trees (there are even two growing up through the deck), birds and the song of cicadas. Lots of comfy places to sit and chill, especially the "room in the sky" at the top of the apartment. Plenty of space, convenient lovely walks down to the shore, and a couple of nice restaurants very near. Definitely recommended.

    Raymond2019-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Love Punakaiki is a very comfortable, spacious and beautifully furnished two level apartment in a complex which has other units. It is private but you may experience some noise from adjoining studios. Pretty much everything you need is provided, just byo food and drink (tea bags, coffee pods, sugar and milk for tea/coffee are all there). Highly recommended for a couple wanting a few days getaway, especially if you are happy to cook. Otherwise there are a couple of eateries a short drive away (not sampled by us!)

    Suzy2019-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing secluded property, everything needed for a weekend away from reality. Met some great people down at the local tavern 👌

  • Omg is the first thing that comes to mind! This place is better than the pictures! Excellent location, close to all tourist sites yet secluded and private. I would come here often if NZ was my home. I strongly recommend spending a few nights here. Cheers, Juliana

Due to theses difficult times we have changed our space. These 2 cabins kitche, and bathroom are self contained and stand alone so you can maintain isolation. With the area we live in you can still do bush and beach walks. 35 min drive to westport Open wifi and 12volt lighting.Just 9kms from the famous Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, a short walk or shorter drive to the beach, edging lovely native NZ bush and spectacular coastlines . Friendly wekas, chickens, bees, dog and owner.
Cosy insulated cabin with double bed and couch. Verandah to enjoy sea, bush, birds and sunset. Outside burner for atmosphere and warmth .
Breathtaking views of the Tasman Sea, within a stone's throw (all right, possibly a wee bit further than that) of the beach, native birds will wander into your cabin if you leave the door open (best not to)... great little community market on Sundays in Summer. And Punakaiki just down the road is rightly famous on the NZ tourist circuit. Spectacular coastlines that are worth exploring.
  • Andrew has been such a fantastic, warm and welcoming host. He made me and my friend feel at home and at ease. He shared wonderful stories and so many great local tips! The pancakes he makes are nothing short of legendary. Thank you so much, Andrew, we will come back for sure!

    Nikolai2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is place has everything we needed and the host is very nice. The bed is comfortable. We had a nice stay.

    Bei2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Friend, this is it. Hit that RESERVE switch and get on with your life. Andrew is a thoughtful, easy-going West Coaster whose actions as a host are guided by a genuine empathy for his guests. He’s got an infectious smile and just the sweetest way about him. He is one of those people you meet “on the road” who you are not likely to forget. The facilities at the cabins are somewhat rustic, yes - these are cabins, after all - but I don’t know of any other “off the grid”, solar-powered Airbnb that actually has reliable hot water around the clock.. and the bed was comfy and the fridge and stove work, and the cabin was totally clean, so it was pretty perfect if you ask me. Do yourself a favor and book yourself a couple of nights (or months?) at Andrew’s spot. And find the Pancake Guy one morning and order a stack of banana. This truly was a peaceful and magical experience. NOTE: the sandflies are not terrible at the cabins, but they are present. Bring bug spray. And bring food to cook and wine to drink (stock up in Greymouth if you’re coming from the South) - there are limited dining options around the area.

    Michael2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew received us very well and by talking to him we learned a lot. Expect an (almost) private luxury campsite: very good bedding in a small cabin with awning, shared kitchen with basic but welcoming equipment and comfortable table, spacious shower, clean toilets (flush). Very well located for a superb walk in Pororari (9 km). Very good value for money.

    Wendy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Interesting accommodation very close nature:). Very good energy in apartment, I slept like baby :D

    Fraulein Monika2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an unbelievable visit. Lee and Andrew are seriously fantastic hosts. The room is clean and cosy, as are the bathroom and kitchen. The place just has an amazing vibe and waking up to the ocean is pretty beautiful. Great people to chat with, and the coffee on the house the next morning was the icing on the cake!

    Andrew2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Lee and Andrews place, great views and caught some great sunsets!

  • Beautiful sunsets...... we were so lucky with the sunset. The view from sunset cottage was as described. We loved the shower and the view as you shower. The homemade bread was a lovely touch and tasted delicious. We had a lovely one night stay and as said the sunset was stunning.

  • We only stayed for one night, but would highly recommend the place. Clean, stylish, welcomming hosts and a big, nice communal kitchen. Best thing is the location. Right at the tasman sea, rainforrest behind you. 5 of 5 stars!

  • I would like to say that it was one of my best airBnB experience. The view from the bed was stunning and everything was nice and clean. What an wonderful cozy place for one or two. 100% recommended.

  • Aside from the weather the majority of the time, which I am told is normal, the place was great. Nice and private, shared kitchen and laundry service. Beautiful view of the waves. And short walk from the local tavern that has a very friendly staff

  • It is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset, short hikes and incredible hospitality. I can only recommend the hostel to everyone.

You are able to utilise our hot tub which is situated a short walk up our driveway, we will provide you with assistance if you want to enjoy this facility.
We are in a small rural hamlet known for it's peace and quiet plus access to outdoor activities (kayaking, bush walking, hiking etc.) Punakaiki Pancake Rocks is a short 15 kilometers North of us. The local pub called 'The All Nations Hotel' does great meals and is only 3 kilometers North of our property. The nearest town with fuel, shops and banking facilities is Greymouth, 25 kilometers South of us.
  • Great stay in the Barn, Nigel was full of great advice and bounce and super welcoming. Ate at All Nations, good food, friendly service and nice and quiet. Quiet area, but great sights

  • Great spot for visiting Punakaiki area. Great people Karen+Nigel!

    Karen2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stop at. Very clean and well done up. The beach is lovely to walk up and down (even in bad weather it's quite something). Sadly was too tired to make use of the hot tub but it looked great. Nigel gave me a very warm welcome. Only slight issue was patchy wifi. Nigel says this varies a lot according to people's phones etc and you can still access it if you move closer to the house. Didn't bother me for one night but if staying longer may be something to consider. All in all a reasonably priced lovely little spot!

    Fran2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot for exploring the Pancake Rocks, blow holes, walking the Truman Tract, and walking the 2 rivers loop trail. The Barn is self-contained and had everything we needed except the salt and pepper packets I had in my luggage for bit of cooking. The breakfast supplies were perfect for us and the coffee was best we have had so far in NZ. It was our first experience with a camper- style toilet and though much prefer a flush one was okay for couple days. Nice birds on and around the property on walk to beach. Quiet spot with outdoor surroundings. We had read about the area and stopped at a grocery store before arriving.

This modern three bedroom bach is a hop, skip and a jump from the Pororari River. It has a spacious deck with outdoor furniture so you can enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views of the bluffs, the river and the sea. Just 200 metres from Bullock Creek Road and one kilometre from Truman Track, you are within walking distance of some of the West Coast's best nature walks. We ask that you please not smoke anywhere on the premises as it destroys the clean, natural beauty of the Paparoa National Park.
The main bedroom has a queen size bed and an ensuite with a shower and toilet. The second bedroom also has a queen size bed. The third bedroom is a bunk room with a king single bunk and a single roll-away trundler bed. There is a second bathroom, with a shower and toilet.
  • A lovely clean, modern house in the bush. Great views of the ocean from the large deck area and an amazing view from over the kitchen sink of the rocky buttresses and bush. Friendly weka a bonus. Great communication. Thank you Libby.

    Martin2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Bach 55 is a beautiful home; the photos don't do it justice, especially the view. The kitchen is well-equipped and the house is quite spacious. The rainforest setting is peaceful (apart from the infrequent traffic) with easy beach access across the road. There's no internet connection or mobile coverage at the house. The outdoor bathtub is excellent for showering off sand before going inside.

    Jeremy2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean home. Very comfortable. Great host. Great scenery.

    Scott2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Libby’s place is fantastic. We knew it was nice from the pictures, but once you get there it’s even lovelier. The place is equipped with everything you need. The location is fantastic for going to the pancake rocks, the blowholes, kayaking and the beach. Even the Sunday market was just a few minutes away. We would definitely come back here!

    Andy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic house in a beautiful location. Great stay!

    Lloyd2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • A little piece of paradise. Bach 55 is a special place. Peaceful and private with beautiful views. The photos don’t do it justice, it’s very spacious and has got a fabulous veranda with glass all the way around. The bed sheets were crisp and white and it was lovely and clean. Super value for money. We certainly would stay here again. Libby was a great host, very helpful.

  • Sharon's place is lovely with a fabulous view of the ocean. It is exactly as described and I would recommend it to anyone travelling around Punakaiki.

  • The location of this house is fabulous. So private and spacious with views over the bush to the sea and lovely decks to enjoy the sunset. A fabulous place to stay.

  • I was unsure what to expect but this was a lovely spacious place in a fantastic location near to a great beach. It was very clean and well equipped and we loved our stay here.

    Martyn2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place even better location!

    Alexander2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's House is located among lush trees, and the entrance is hidden and very fun. Through the jungle, you can reach the beach. The house's rooms, living room, dining area, and leisure platform and garden are all spacious. The terrace overlooks the sea and faces the mountains. The disadvantage is that it is relatively humid, and there are small spiders. We cannot live in the room on the first floor, and we have to make a floor on the second floor alone.

  • Truly amazing spot, one of the best Airbnb’s I’ve stayed in. Incredible location, charming and cozy space that feels like you are in a Wes Anderson movie, and some interesting history! Everything you could need for a getaway on the coast. Exceeded our expectations - was a delight!

    Sarah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really neat house with cosy and quirky decor with vintage Maui/kiwi and British things. Just next to the beach where you fall a sleep to the sound of the waves. No sea view, but nice location next to the beach/sea. Very clean. The first half an hour we had no WiFi, but after that we had super 5G for the rest of our stay. Best equipped kitchen we have experienced in NZ. Wish we could have stayed more than one night.

    Lise2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • It's tough to nail down the appeal of Laura's home, but there's definitely something great about it. True to the listing, it's a classic bach style NZ home in an amazingly intense (in a good way) location. There's cool decor and little bits of nostalgia and history and NZ pride all over. Something that felt really special and local, particularly for foreigners. The place was clean, shower worked well and you can't beat a walk up the hill to the pancake rocks. Like anywhere on the West Coast of NZ's south island in the summer time, watch out for the sandflies!

The Bush Hideaway is a lovely relaxing private holiday house, about 10kms from Punakaiki and the famous pancake rocks. Set on 12 acres of spectacular West Coast rainforest, it has some views to the Tasman sea, from the deck, though primarily a bush setting. On a clear day you can see Mt Cook! Spacious, warm & airy in summer, cosy and warm in winter with a log burner. Plenty of indoor and outdoor living spaces with free wifi. Built in the 1990's for a much travelled wonderful woman.
Use the garage remote to drive in or park undercover in the carport. Up the internal stairs that lead into the library and living space. There's a well equipped kitchen, so be sure to bring all your food requirements. Your bound to meet the visiting Weka's, (native wood hen), be careful they don't come in, as they're VERY friendly.
In a rural bush setting, not too far from the famous pancake rocks at Punakaiki, about 10 kms, easy to find, just off the main road. Private undercover parking.
  • We loved our stay. It was just an overnight stop but felt like longer. The house was perfectly positioned, sparkling clean and ready for us on arrival. We came from doing the caving and glow worm tour in Charleston.... if you hadn’t planned to do this it is a MUST and worth the trip on its own... Robyn’s place is the perfect overnight stop before or after this tour.

This stunning beach front 'studio style shack' is nestled amongst the famous native forest of the West Coast. It has everything you need, so your stay in paradise feels very homely. The end of the earth has never been so beautiful
This Studio style cabin is situated on your own private beach, has one queen size bed, gas cooker, long drop toilet and separate shower nestled amongst the native bush for that authentic end of the earth feeling. We have it set up so it is very warm and cosy inside with a lovely safe heater. We provide candles and battery lights. There is also an outside fire pit and a house truck offering extra sitting and reading space. The fully equipped kitchen has all the basic utensils, pots, pans etc so all you need to do is turn up, unpack and switch off. This property does not have power so everything is run from gas, batteries and candle light. The enclosed hot water shower is nestled in the forest just to the left of the "shack" And the "long drop" toilet is located close by the cabin. We ask that you practice care around fire and candles always making sure everything is extinguished before bed and the heater is switched off. It's basic but comfortable. If you need any electronics charger please let us know as we are happy to do that for you. Also remember there is no cell phone reception in the fox river area. Trust us it's part of the charm. There is plenty of extra space for camper vans and tents. These will be charged at $20 per couple.
You will truly feel like you have arrived at the end of the earth as this place is like stepping back in time as you are encapsulated in the native bush with the wild west coast ocean at your door step. There are glow worm caves close at Charleston and the Fox river is your closest access point into the beautiful national park. On Sundays the locals put on a fabulous market showcasing there arts and crafts.
  • The beach shack is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature and unwind.

    Gadgetgirl512020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect off grid getaway to switch off and relax. Lose yourself in the sound of the waves and the crackling firewood by night. The location is spectacular and the shack itself has all the necessities. Make sure you pick up supplies in Westport or Greymouth. There’s a gas bbq and stove but no nearby shops. If, like us, you forget to do this, you can buy wine, beer and get takeaway meals from the hotel 10mins down the road in Punakaki!

    Katie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing and not to be missed-especially if you like privacy, the sound of the roaring seas, sitting round a fire watching the sunset on a beach just for you and can cope without the internet!! We found milk bread chocolate butter and jam left for us plus lots of other bits around. Plenty of candles and torches. Rob came by to show us how things worked. We used tons of sandfly spray and didn’t come away with too many bites!

    elizabeth2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Just you and the waves.... you can go a day without seeing a soul in either direction. Surprised at the amount of cooking supplies as well

  • Amazing place in an amazing location! What a spot and what a view! 😁 And the cottage itself is really nice, stylish and clean. It’s so nice to listen to the Tasman Sea and stare at the Southern Milky Way on the terrace. ❤️ Robert was very helpful and everything worked well. Highly recommended!

  • Roberts place was absolutely amazing! It has to be one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. The pictures do not do it justice. Our only wish was that we stayed more than one night! Thank you Robert- what a slice of pure magic.

  • We had an incredible but all too short of a stay at Robert's place. We absolutely loved the location tucked away beside a secluded beach. The house is small but well laid out with all amenities required. The bed was very comfortable and the view outstanding. We were very lucky to have a clear night sky and were stunned by the number of stars and the milky way clearly visible. We highly recommend. Thank you so much Robert!

  • Great place to see the Wild West coast. View breathtaking

    Sandra2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect stay! The photos really don't do this place justice.. Lovely view of the beach, with a little bay all to ourselves. Just keep in mind that the place is quite secluded with no connectivity.

    Danah2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is all about it’s location on the beach-absolutely stunning. We only stayed one night but a second would have been great too. It’s not a location that I would want to arrive at in the dark especially as there is a small area of road you need walk along and an area unfenced with a drop into a culvert. Some of the traffic there passes really quickly and is upon you in a flash. I would strongly recommend a daylight arrival. The unit is fine and it’s great to sleep with the sea so close. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with a stay here. Highly recommend!

  • Very clean. Something difficult to find. Everything you need. There's not much to do in Barrytown itself, but if you know that beforehand it's a good stop. I can only recommend it.

  • The place is beautiful, you can enjoy the view from his house and it's gorgeous! Daniel has two dogs who are adorable ! The house is simple and clean and thé room is very spacious with some tea and coffee available ~

    Manon2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Clean apartment with enough privacy! 2 really friendly dogs and Daniel is an easy, personable host who leaves a lot of space, but is there when you need him! Vis a vis is a café / restaurant with delicious burgers, coffee, house cakes, friendly operators and you can walk to the beach in just a few minutes! We can only recommend the accommodation.

    Beatrice2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very easy going host. Nice view of the beach from the patio. Location is about 15min south of the punakaiki blowholes which suited us. Shower had good pressure. A simple but great value bnb.

    Nenad2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Simple but nice play to stay when you are traveling the coast. Good price. Was really surprised by the beautiful location. When you leave the house, cross the road and have Pizza at the only Restaurant. Afterwards walk straight to the Beach and enjoy the Sunset. You will probably have the (stony) beach to yourself.

    Nils2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view of the ocean, right across the street from a nice pub, and the sweetest doggies for a really affordable price! Daniel was very thoughtful.

    Alexandra2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our room had enough space, Daniel provided tea, Coffee, cool water and bathrobes which was very nice. The kitchen had everything we needed and the breakfast was enough. The bathroom was clean and he had a washing Maschine which we didn’t use. From his veranda we had a perfekt view to the sea and the sunset. Daniel was nice and gave us our space. All in all was the stay suitable for us.

    Lara2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the one of best place we have stayed. Highly recommend to everyone. Both dogs are friendly and give us a lovely welcome. If you want to see the sunset come to Daniels place bit earlier. Very clean and recently renovated new bathroom. Highly recommended. Sparkling clean. 👍

Cargill Cottage is a character cottage with plenty of ambience, just 100 metres from the exit/entrance of the Croesus Track, The All Nations Hotel, and about a 15 min walk to the beach, down a quiet country road. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, private back garden, and carport. There's a wood burner and dry firewood available for colder months, as well as plenty of heaters, and extra duvets. Enjoy having a private holiday home to yourselves.
Cargill Cottage, was moved from Otira about 20 years ago to Barrytown, where it enjoys a much warmer situation. Styled in the Arts & Crafts style, with lots of old fashioned wood work, and styling.
Barrytown is a tiny rural community, about 15 minutes from Punakaiki, on the Great Coast Road. Very peaceful and picturesque.
  • Very comfy, atmospheric little cottage. Great pub food a few doors down.

    Elizabeth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful character home, bright, warm, cosy and clean, and a lovely garden too. We were greeted by a bunch of fresh flowers. Very well-equipped kitchen, comfy bed, good shower. Great collection of books, music and movies too for rainy or lazy days. Perfect place to take the dog too, we enjoyed lots of beach walks. Can highly recommend!

Nestled perfectly at the waters edge of theTasman sea, with direct access to the beach is my rustic bach.. Snuggle warmly inside by the coal range with a book, or be mesmerised by the power of the ocean waves pounding a few meters from the deck. Enjoy plunger coffee on the house or bring your own NZ wine. Memories are made here.. With stunning views from both inside and out, you can indulge in the magic of West Coast sunsets, dolphins swimming past on a calm day and penguins nesting nearby.
  • Murray’s place is beautiful, great spot and so lovely. Everything was perfect.

    Hannah2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved everything about this place. This is slice of paradise. Located directly on the beach you can enjoy breathtaking scenery and listen to roaring waves. This bach is spacious, clean and comfortable. We only regret we didn’t stay here longer.

    Krzysztof2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible location right on the ocean, with beautiful private beach in both directions, the sound of the surf a constant companion. A special place.

    Robin2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little beach house with a view of the sea (no bathing beach / very rough coast). Great terrace to enjoy the view. Kitchen is well equipped and offers everything you need. For us it was the ideal stopover to relax a bit during our tour.

    Lena2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true kiwi bach on an iconic West Coast location. Truly outstanding in terms of location, accessibility and serenity. My only regret is not enjoying it with my wife. We will be back!

    Dion2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • There are three bachs that share this stunning location and Murray is the best, by FAR. It is the perfect mix of old and new and is truly spectacular. The small touches are really lovely too i.e recommendations, coffee satchets etc. The accommodation itself has absolutely everything you need and you don't want for anything. We spent Valentines weekend here and it was glorious. It's a real treat to wake up and be able to see the ocean that lulls you to sleep at night. Remember the insect repellent because Coast sandflies are brutal. Other than that, if you're sitting on the fence, just book! You won't regret it. Thanks Murray, Awhina and Tom.

    Awhina2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful two days in Murrays house. The view on the ocean is so brilliant, that we wished to stay longer. The beds are comfortable and we liked the wooden floor and the old wooden table. Thank you

It is a Bach, which is a small modest holiday home. Great location, beach opposite. Hosts live on site. Nearest cellphone coverage is Punakaiki or Charleston, either one, a 15 minute drive. Fox River is 5 minutes away, (4.5 km), where each Sunday, over the summer, there is a local market day, crafts, food etc.
All cooking utensils supplied. Tea, coffee and sugar supplied. Cook own meals. Electric stove, microwave, fridge/freeze and heat pump. PLEASE NOTE, the water supply is drawn from a local waterfall. You may wish to bring bottled water for drinking. At times the Wi Fi can be slow. The TV is Free View.
Pancake Rocks is 15 minutes drive. Seal Colony is 30 minutes drive. Cave rafting and train ride at Charleston, 15 minutes drive. Amazing sunsets.
  • Lovely place looking out over the sea. Felt like being at home. Wish we had stayed longer.

  • This place was wonderful but in a very homey way. Where I’m from we call this kind of place “camp.” Don’t expect to find a fancy year round home. This is an older seasonal place with all the basic comforts of home in a well loved interior set in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. You can see and hear the crashing surf from the living room. We loved it!

  • We’ve stayed in many Airbnbs and this was our favourite. It was homey, comfortable, and everything we could have needed was provided. Also, the setting, overlooking a gorgeous garden and across the road from the ocean, was unbeatable. We fell asleep at night to the peaceful sound of the waves. Shirley and Andy are great hosts. Highly recommended.

Enjoy a totally off-grid experience at Sva's Hut, a private cabin nestled in native bush and overlooking Woodpecker Bay. This charming retreat boasts spectacular ocean views, and with a sheltered outdoor kitchen and shower you will be able to enjoy them to the max. Spend your evenings listening to the waves watching the sun set. Great place to relax and unwind, with no interruptions from the outside world.
Sva's Hut is nestled into the bush on one side providing great shelter for you to cook, shower and relax in the outdoor space. Even in torrential rain we have enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the weather explode around us. The hut is warmed by the afternoon sun and is often very toasty when you head in for bed. Sva's has a lovely comfy bed that is elevated to make sure you are never missing that ocean view! A short walk down the driveway and you are on one of the most beautiful West Coast beaches.
The Punakaiki to Fox River drive is one of the most stunning stretches of coastline you will see anywhere in the world. Weither you are into fishing, surfing, beach walking, hiking one of the many tracks, taking the kids to see the Pancake Rocks Blow Holes or maybe you want to lull around in a river swimming hole, check out the Fox River Summer Sunday Markets or find a nice secluded beach for a picnic or just sit on the sandy beach and watch a magical sunset. So much to do here and most of it does not cost a cent.
  • Beautiful views, very easy access to a quiet and lovely beach. We loved the extra touch of puzzles and cards for our use inside the hut. Made for a very relaxing stay.

Very small and simple place, but the bed is very comfortable. It’s not luxury at all, but it’s a perfect quiet spot rest and enjoy nature.

    Preston2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the hut is astonishing. The hut is quite rustic but the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen outside is perfect for the view on the sea. Moreover we saw two wekas in the evening and in the morning. I like this type of accommodation in the middle of nowhere, it is very relaxing. Thanks Jed for sharing this hut with tourists who like the nature and the wildlife.

Our home is 'on the beach' and is situated midway between Greymouth and Punakaiki. We offer a self contained unit on the ground floor of our home. The beach is just a few steps away and is great for walking. Punakaiki is 20 minutes from the house, Greymouth is also 20 minutes and Hokitika airport is a 50 minute drive to the south. Greymouth offers a range of eateries and there is a tavern at Punakaiki. We are situated on state high way 6, which is well known for its spectacular scenery.
We offer a self contained unit on the ground floor of our modern near new home. There is a full kitchen with an oven and cook top - but there is no microwave. There is one sleeping space with a queen bed, plus the couches in the living area pull out to provide a bed for an extra guest.
The proximity to the sea and the bush clash surroundings give our home an all year 'holiday' atmosphere. The area of sea by our home is popular for surf casting and most evenings we enjoy stunning sunsets.
  • Extraordinary property! Nestled between the ocean in the front and beautiful mountains in the back. We enjoyed multiple sunrises and sunsets and watched a rainbow appear over the ocean from the spacious living room. We stayed for two nights but could have stayed a week. Thanks for sharing your home and delicious chocolate chip cookies.

AVAILABLE FOR LOCKDOWN - $200 p/week. With te tūtū/the full tide lapping at your feet, you can't get any closer to the beautiful Tasman Sea. This is an authentic, rustic Kiwi bach. Largely unchanged since mid last century, the bach is loaded with character and quirky features. Unplugged - there is currently no phone, internet or cell coverage, but WIFI hotspot nearby.
A log burning fire will keep you toasty warm in winter, dry firewood is provided during winter months, and an electric heater all year round - just in case. Te Tūtū Bach is one of just three small holiday baches sharing this amazing location perched on the edge of the wild West Coast wilderness.
Located just above the high tide mark, this bach enjoys stunning 180-degree views of the coast. At low tide, you can walk for kilometres along the beach, at high tide watch big waves crashing at your feet. Equally satisfying during a sunny blue-sky day or during a famous wild West Coast storm! The location is remote and wild.
  • This is an eclectic place to stay off the beaten track in New Zealand with a fabulous bed, wonderful hot water and shower and more than adequate kitchen. Perfect place to be disconnected from the world! Book it today!

  • Remarkable accommodation. First it is a beautiful place, a few kms from spectacular trails, with a superb sunset and we even saw dolphins from the terrace. But it is especially super well equipped for a place so far from everything! A great shower with hot water and pressure, a kitchen with everything you need from a knife that cuts to the brand new fridge freezer, and comfortable bedding. All that's missing is internet access and we were making it our new office!

    Nicolas2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing location..... perfect if you want to have some time off grid and a little nostalgia right next to the ocean! :)

  • Loved the location right on the beach with views of the beach from the porch and the livingroom and kitchen. Beautiful sunset walks were had. The beds were amazing and we all slept well. The shower is large and much enjoyed after a hard day of hiking. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals and the coffee provided was much appreciated. Daniel made his place unique with decorations and personal touches. The bach was close to all the hikes we wanted to do. I must say though that the sand flies were not our favorites there but we were warned and were, for the most part, ready for them. I would highly recommend this quaint little place.

There are.plenty of nearby beautiful spaces, beaches and walks. Feel free to ask 9km south is the pancake rocks
  • Lee and Andrew were fabulous hosts. Their cabin is the perfect place to disconnect and relax! It is in a beautiful location. If you are looking for a calm atmosphere this is the place.

  • It’s just a great place to stay. Quiet, peaceful. You sit before your cabin, listen to the sea and look at the horizon. And by the way ... Andrew makes a wonderful coffee!

  • We spent a wonderful two days at the Tui Cabins. We appreciated all the local knowledge shared by our hosts and we were able to make the most of our time in the area. Beautiful sunsets, rustic, yet comfortable, outdoor living spaces and even glow worms in close proximity were some of the highlights. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome and shared their love of the area with us.

    Brittany2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is such a wonderful place. You got everything you need and the views are just spectacular. The communication was very easy and we had a fantastic time at Lees and Andrews place. If we're back in New Zealand we definitely come back!

  • Small and shared but sociable little budget huts with outstandingly friendly & hospitable hosts who truly "go the extra mile"". Fishing, special requests, garden tours and coffee from their popular coffee cart ...you get the feeling they love what they do!

The house is a 70,s icon with a remarkable history. Downstairs is a more modern, insulated, large room with double bed and attached ensuite shower and toilet. There is open wifi. Please note there are no cooking facilities.
We live in a native bush environment that comes to your door. Our house is off grid. All our power is from solar. All our water is pure rainwater. Our only connection to the outside world is the internet ( a must of the modern world) Don't expect manicured lawns and expansive gardens or a shiny polished hotel. Do expect native birds singing around you. The odd weka coming in to visit. The sound of crashing see. And a unique experience of normal kiwi life.
We live in a native bush environment. The birds will sing outside your window and the occasional weka will try to sneak in. The sound of the sea will lull you to sleep.
  • Great spot with that view, lovely hosts, cute dog, we really recommand it! You can’t describe with words what a lovely place it is.

    Paul2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lee is a great host, it was a lot of fun to chat with him. The dog is super cute and the accommodation was great and definitely worth a stopover. You are in the middle of the nature at the breathtaking west coast. I can definitely recommend this Airbnb! Nice place to be.

    Nathalie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lee's place is fantastic!!! Amazing and rustic location right on the water. The place has great vibes and Lee told us awesome stories & gave us some amazing tips for our travels (including where to spot wild penguins down the road!). 10/10 recommend, neat place :)

    Leah2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew is a wonderful host. He had so many great stories and treated me to a great cappuccino in the morning. The location is up in the hills overlooking the ocean in the distance. It's basically a rainforest there and it's beautiful. I went to sleep listening to waves in the distance. The room has a small furnace and it's own bathroom and shower. The internet works good too. It is a secluded area, but the road to get there was short and doable in my little rental car.

    Fernando2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • It was really an awesome place, the view is just wonderful. The host is really a cool guy!

    Maélick2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lee has a wonderful place on a hill overlooking the Ocean--it's appealingly bucolic, but just a five minute drive from the Pancake Rocks and a small town. Lee is very amiable and a good raconteur. A great place to stay.

    Richard2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little hideaway on the west coast. If you want a luxury boutique room then this is not the place for you, but if you like camping style cooking, sitting outside around a fire and views across the west coast then this is absolutely perfect! We loved our stay and its a shame we didn't have longer. Andrew was a great host and has plenty of local tips, plus peanut (the dog) is hilarious!

    Becky2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Absolutely loved seeing the penguins and glow worms nearby! We hope we can stay longer next time.

Come and relax in our family bach! The perfect location to explore Punakaiki. Serenity bach is very central, with so much to do in the immediate area without having to get in the car. - Walk the Pororari river track. - Enjoy the beach and watch the sunset over the ocean. - 15 minutes walk to the famous Pancake Rocks. - Kayak, stand-up paddle board or swim in the Pororari River. - Relax here after completing the Paparoa Track.
Our cottage is comfortable, tidy and well equipped for families, with kids toys and games provided. The grounds are spacious, private and great for BBQ's with beautiful established trees and native birdsong. The deck is great for enjoying meals outdoors and for relaxing while listening to the sound of the ocean. - The kitchen is an older style but functions well. - The main bedroom has a queen size bed. - The second bedroom is separated from the lounge by a curtain. - Super-fast fibre broadband/Wifi is provided.
Located directly across the road from the Pororari River walk and the new Paparoa Track. An easy 200m walk to the beach and a few doors down from the Punakaiki Tavern.
  • Great place to stay and relax. As per the description, it’s an old style kiwi Bach, so not super fancy but that suited us fine. Would definitely stay again.

  • Amazing location and charming bach.

    Laurel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa’s hose is in the perfect location! It is a short walk to a number of trails including the pancake rocks viewing loop. The house has a lovely outdoor space with beautiful trees and flowers. And the deck is perfect for stargazing, I highly recommend staying here.

    Isabel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is full of charm and I love the old-school style. Just barely spent the night there as this was a great way to cut our long New Zealand travel journey.I have been to Punakaiki before and It’s one of Most magical place on earth.

    Adrien2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a classic kiwi bach in a beautiful location. Very close to the beach, pancake rocks and the start of the Paparoa track. The house is as described, basic but comfortable, and we enjoyed our stay.

    Punakaiki, West Coast, New Zealand

Only metres from Motukiekie Beach with its sea stacks and starfish (Search for images of Motukiekie). Away from the commercial hustle and bustle of touristy Punakaiki but only a short scenic drive away. Tucked in native bush, waterfalls tumble down the cliffs. Great sea views. Lovely garden. A perfect peaceful base. Unspoilt beach and beautiful sunsets. You may stumble upon seals on your walks along the beach. Occasionally we see little blue penguins. Stay a bit longer you will be glad you did.
This spacious downstairs apartment is a part of our holiday house in a private garden, just a few steps from one of New Zealand's best-kept secrets: The sea stacks of Motukiekie beach. The house is in a rustic little lane along one of Lonely Planet's top 10 coastal routes in the world. You can light a bonfire from driftwood on the beach or in the little log burner in the lounge. When the sea is calm you can gather mussels at low tide and spot the many starfish. You may meet Honey a super friendly Labrador or our young Springer Spaniel Charlie. A review we received: Fabulous apartment in a magical location. The Apartment is well set up and equipped with lots of personal touches and a cupboard filled with board games puzzles and books. A memorable place. The location is truly breathtaking - a few steps to a beautiful beach, a waterfall by the side of the house, lovely little garden - truly one of the best places we have ever stayed
Located only metres from the beautiful Motukiekie Beach, halfway between Greymouth and Punakaiki, it's the perfect base for West Coast activities. The house is in a small community with 8 other houses, you may meet some of the neighbours, there are no fences but please respect their privacy. "Motukiekie Beach would have to be my favourite location on the South Island, l know thats a big call but Motukiekie has everything l could ask for, rugged coastline, giant rock stacks, moody weather and starfish". Another site lists Motukiekie beach in the top 9 beaches of the world. Look for Motukiekie online and you will see. Try to arrive before low tide, you would be so disappointed to miss the beach walk. We honestly recommend to stay at least 2-3 nights you will not be disappointed. A highlight in Barrytown is making your own knife.
  • This is an exceptional location and worth the effort. If you can plan your trip to include a low tide you enjoy the additional bonus of exploring the tide pools, collecting mussels and enjoying the WOW factor of the cliffs and sea stacks

  • This place is a real gem, a beautiful idyllic spot on the West Coast away from the tourist madness. The beach is stunning and we will certainly stay for longer next time so we have time to explore further. The accommodation has everything you need and more, and is so cosy, especially with the wood fire going. Our toddler loved the toys and it was lovely to have fresh herbs from the garden to use in our dinner. We will be back!!

  • This apartment is wonderful. We arrived after a day of driving in torrential rain to find a cosy apartment/house with amazing views down to a wild sea. The wood burning stove had been laid and we were soon warm and cosy. We were also visited by Honey a gorgeous Labrador who shares some of our dinner. The washing machine and dryer were also put to good use. The place was clean, the kitchen well equipped and the beds comfortable. All up a gear place

  • Beautiful location tucked into the hillside above the beach. Kees was very helpful with detailed directions and local advice. The NZ trip planning link was helpful the entire trip. A great location along the west coast with an even better host!

    Jeff2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space in a great location for exploring the west coast of the South Island. Loved the proximity to the beach and the space itself was so nice. If looking for good food nearby Monteith brewery in Greymouth was a delight

    Brooke2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is comfortably furnished and corresponds to the description. The pure drinking water supply comes from rainwater. Basically, there is also water from a stream.

    Peter2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Kees's house is amazing. In the house is everything you can need and even more. And the beach in front of the house is really stunning. When it iss low tide you can walk there for hours and hours and discover many things of the sea. If you want to stay somewhere at the Westcoast of New Zealand, then Kees's house is definitely the best place you can get!
