Places to stay in Placentia
Licensed and inspected by tourism board, this lovely, two-bedroom cottage style- apartment is directly on the water . Wake up in the morning to a spectacular ocean view, right in the centre of town. A full kitchen, TV, wifi and more makes this a home away from home.
Three little attached cottages are tucked into a corner of a cul de sac under the soaring white architecture of the Placentia Lift Bridge. One cottage is occupied by permanent residents, while the other two are available for rental when they are not used by our company. Each cottage has two bedrooms, each with a queen sized iron bed, a closet, nightstand and spectacular view of the Harbour. There is a kitchen with full size refrigerator, stove and microwave, with everything you need for four people. A down-filled sofa in the comfortable living room, along with the wide screen TV, apple tv and high-speed wifi make this an excellent spot for business travellers, families and vacationers.
The view from this space is spectacular. You are right in the heart of Plaisance, the ancient French Capital of Newfoundland. The top three places to eat in the Placentia area are all within a short walk away from these cottages.
  • Lovely cottage and view. Very clean and has everything we wanted for an enjoyable weekend.

  • This place is way bigger than it looks and very modern! Cool amenities like a shampoo / conditioner / shower gel dispenser in the bathroom, compostable coffee pods, wood for a little outdoor fire at night and comfy chairs to lounge in and take in the view. I recommend heading to Three Sisters Pub close by for some karaoke with the locals and walking across the street to a little boardwalk along the water.

  • This little cottage was lovely and exactly as advertised. The hike up to the fort was great and the views from there were amazing. Cottage was very clean and had a kurig with a couple of k-cups of coffee and a few creamers to get you started. If your a big coffee drinker like me I suggest a stop at the grocery store uptown to grab some more. From the deck you could look up into the bay or towards the bridge into the ocean. No boat traffic this time of year and many places were closed for the season. We didn’t eat at the cottage so not sure if there were any kind of spices or what cook ware it has. But the coupon for Three Sisters was nice and they had good food and it’s just a short walk over the bridge.

Located on beautiful Southeast Arm, this modern, spacious 2 bedroom chalet is the perfect choice for a couples get away, a few days checking out our historic town, a night before boarding the Argentia ferry, or if you simply need to lay your head while the kids play sports. Nestled in the woods, it’s hard to imagine you are 1 minute from the main road. It’s impossible to not find peace here. In summer, the in ground pool is a real treat. Enjoy the view from the top. Pool closes September 15th.
Guests will occupy the entire house.
Tranquility is located in the woods, 30 seconds from the main road. The town is quiet in general but our location is beyond tranquil.

St. Brides is the largest community on the Cape Shore and the closest community (17km) away from Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve. A small but vibrant fishing community and a community steeped in its Irish Roots. The home is situated at the entrance or end of the community depending on which is your route of travel. The heart of St. Brides is the small harbour with various sized vessels that fish for the many species in the area. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to get some from a fisherman or better yet be invited to go out for a spin. Cape St. Mary's Ecological reserve is only 17 km away across a barren highway. Apart from the amazing birding and hiking, there is also the Cape St. Mary's Concert Series which brings in wonderful musical and other acts throughout the summer. Don't miss their after concert dessert table. Leaving St. Brides and heading to Placentia (30 min drive) be prepared for stunning vistas and plenty of hills and some sandy beaches also. Drive the other way and head past Cape St. Mary's to Branch -a place where surfers play and also a place deeply Irish in language and tradition. Places to Eat - St. Brides - Da Bird's Eye - with great local food and fresh fish. Branch - The Loft. Sunday mornings in these communities is quite quiet - not many things open - stock up on supplies and gas the night before or rest easy on Sunday mornings.
  • Gordon's house is a beautiful little piece of Newfoundland heaven. It is brand new and immaculate. It has everything you could want in a vacation home: comfy bed, incredible kitchen stocked with absolutely everything you could want for preparing food, a wonderful sun room that offers a nice view of the sunset, a game room, lots of privacy, and homemade blueberry muffins (thank you so much Gordon!). It is wonderful! The house is as close as you can get to the St. Mary's Ecological Reserve, which I highly suggest you visit while here. You can see tens of thousands of seabirds nesting just a few meters away. I would definitely stay here again and One note that internet is listed on Air B&B, but we could not connect to the service for the time we were there. I don't believe this is Gordon's fault, but wanted to mention it for anyone who does work on the road like my hubby and I do.

    Lori2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly appreciated Gordon's airy, spotlessly clean place with its pretty décor and bright windows from which we enjoyed spectacular views of St. Brides and the sea. Gordon's place is in a superb location, close to Cape St. Mary's bird rock and fishermen. We also liked the bbq, the laundry, the sunset, the muffins, the privacy, and looking at our bird pictures on the tv. Beautiful weather made our stay perfect, though if fogged in, there are lots of amusements, like games, cooking, and comfy chairs. Very happy to have stayed. Sincere thanks.

    Louise2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely house with a view of the ocean. The host kindly supplied games and we had a fun family game night. He responded to requests very quickly. Amenities were amazing and the house and town were quite charming. It was probably the closest place to stay to visit Cape st. Mary's.

    Chris2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely stay. Welcoming and so inviting. Would highly recommend this location. Sensational views. Can’t wait to come back.

    Cord2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gordon’s place had an exceptional sunset view with all the amenities and lots of little extras. Clean with beautiful bedding and lots of space. The only downside was we didn’t want to leave! Try to have a few days to fully enjoy the house and area! Access and communication was easy and helpful.

    Paul2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place with an amazing view, great place for a weekend away

    Adam2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ann’s place is exactly as described-a clean and beautifully decorated cottage with a million dollar view! It’s a perfect retreat for a couple. Every detail has been considered to make your stay comfortable, including milk, eggs, jam and coffee which we partook of on our first morning, eating breakfast at the kitchen island while enjoying the beautiful sunrise over Norman’s Cove. The cottage has a spacious and fully equipped kitchen, large TV and excellent WiFi service. In the evening, we sat out on the expansive deck and warmed ourselves by a crackling fire as we gazed at the stars. After a long day of site seeing we were very happy to return to the tranquility of the cottage and its surroundings. Would highly recommend!

  • Such a magical little spot!! Everything about this place is wonderful - it exceeded all expectations! My partner and I spent almost our whole time outside on the big and beautiful deck overlooking the water - so many whales! We put a fire in the fireplace outside every night, cooked meals in the clean and spacious kitchen, explored Norman's Cove and the surrounding communities (which are all so special), and fell fast asleep each night in the cozy and comfortable bed. Felt incredibly at home and at peace as soon as we walked in the door. Dreaming of the day we can go back! :')

  • This place was exactly what we needed. We stayed four nights over the long weekend. Great place to head out and explore the shore or head for short drives, or just stay in and sip coffee/beer all day while doing a puzzle or reading. The wood stove kept us nice and cozy and the kitchen was plenty stocked with equipment and tools for us to make more elaborate meals. The place felt just like it was our own. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

  • A great getaway not too far from convenience stores, a small grocery store, yet tucked away on a quiet hill with beautiful views from the deck, or from the chairs next to the fire-pit. Everything you might need is available from cookware, corkscrews, books, games, puzzles, blankets, towels and even some small fans in the bedrooms. The host has thought of everything, and maybe a few things you forgot.

A unique stay opportunity in Newfoundland. This rustic lodge was constructed of re-purposed old-growth western red cedar from a Church. Your accommodation is part of a larger nature-based retreat space called the Tree of Life. Designed to connect people and nature through cooperative development and management of an off-the-grid retreat facility. The facility features alternative energy, natural building techniques, and other sustainability practices. Explore our outside and indoor spaces.
The Cedar Lodge is a rustic 16*12 one-bedroom cabin. Like all buildings on the property, the lodge is heated by natural heat. The wood stove is located in the bedroom along with a double bed and library of spiritual and other literature. There is electricity inside the building also to power lights and plugs. The electricity is generated by a micro-hydro storing energy in a battery bank. The main area has a round table with two chairs, a bunk bed and a chair. Perched on the side of a hill overlooking the Salmonier River and the Avalon Wilderness Reserve, you will be treated to our large open sky and the peaceful feeling of being out in nature. The Tree of Life is located in St. Catherine's, NL approximately one km past St. Catherine's Academy if you are travelling down from the highway. If travelling up Salmonier Line toward the highway we are (approx how far) from the North Atlantic Gas Bar. There is a gas bar, convenience store and liquor store about a 1-minute drive from the Tree of Life. Riverview Lounge and restaurant are a one minute drive on the highway from the Tree of Life. The Stuffed Puffin is located 13 km back up Salmonier Line (towards the Highway) There is also a restaurant located at the Wilds Golf Course (6.6 km back toward the highway) The Salmonier Nature Park is 11km up toward Holyrood. There is a fantastic boardwalk trail that is fully accessible that winds through the park. Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is a 97 km but 2hour drive Route 91 to Route 92. Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is one the best and most accessible places in the world to see nesting seabirds. Named for the navigational hazard it poses at the often-foggy southeastern tip of the Avalon Peninsula. Go and visit and see "Where LIFE got big" The Wilds at Salmonier has a world-renowned top-rated 18-hole course known not just because of its clear greens and gorgeous fairways. The course is truly unique because of the land surrounding the course. Cut our of the Avalon Wilderness and nestled on the banks of the Salmonier River with dramatic site lines and rivers - the course is not for the faint at heart. Father Duffy's Well is a provincial park. This pleasant little roadside rest area grew up around the legend of a parish priest, his fight for his church, and a natural spring on the side of the road. Though many of the people that come to visit Father Duffy's Well do so to avail of its purported healing powers, you do not have to a believer to enjoy this beautiful little park, with its picnic area and wooded walking trails. The park is located 10 minutes drive up toward the Trans Canada Highway.
  • Great stay! We booked the place very last-minute (a couple hours before check-in) and they were able to accommodate. Kip was there to great us when we arrived. He walked us around the property and had the cabin pre-heated by the time we got there. Very responsive to al our questions. The cabin was very sweet! Well-kept and had all the basic kitchen stuff we would want plus a burner. Good table space and a bookshelf full of books! Really great stay- we will definitely be back!

  • Great experience to connect to the outdoors. Rustic and genuine! Loved the wood stove, the beautiful hiking trails through the fog forest and waterfalls, and especially the yoga house! Wonderful! Very peaceful place, with the fog rising in the morning over the mountains.

  • Beautiful property with amazing features. Loved the cabin. Wood stove was going and had the place warmed up for check in. Was off the grid and low key, just what we needed.

    Kelsey2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome! Do the hike to the waterfalls.

  • Very peaceful and beautiful spot

    Kayla2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is primitive as advertised. I found it basic but very charming. I would stay there again.

    Timothy2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is embedded in a compound of various surrounding buildings - a yoga studio, a main house and another bunk house. While we arrived a yoga teacher training was underway, and it was a bit different from the private getaway we expected. Nevertheless we enjoyed joining yoga on Saturday morning in the beautiful studio and a freezing dip in the nearby waterfall. Our hosts prepared some wood for us to make a fire which made for a cosy warm cabin. We managed to cook a one pot meal on the butane stove. We enjoyed our two night stay!

    Hannah2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cabin. It was a great space to disconnect from the world. Only disappointment was that I couldn't stay for longer.

  • Ann's place was clean and well furnished. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, plates, bowls, and she was nice enough to provide milk, juice, bread, jam, and eggs. The heater works great, fast and held the temperature well. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with towels. Watch out for potholes on the road in. It's not bad if you're looking out for them. There's a great hiking trail 5 minutes away.

  • Quaint little seaside cottage in a quiet rural community. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and first time to Newfoundland....this place was perfect for our trip. Beautiful view to wake up to in the morning and sit on the deck with a coffee. Very well stocked with everything one would need. Grocery and other services were nearby and the place provided a great location to drive and see the much of the Avalon area. We certainly would stay there again.

    Dominique2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat! We really just needed a place to sleep near the bird sanctuary, but Capeway turned out to be a lovely, comfortable, entirely pleasant experience. The room was tastefully decorated and extremely clean and cozy. We made a small dinner using the kitchenette. The breakfast was great -- everything from mini danishes to yogurt with pumpkin seeds to put on top. Hilda was lovely and gave us a great tip on the whales at St. Vincent's. We could not have asked for a better stay.

    Susan2019-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodations with well thought out amenities. Breakfast at 8:00 was too late for us - no availability for early morning coffee or tea. Most restaurants in the area not open before 8:00 either. Menus similar to others that we have experienced in our travels from St John’s- fish and chips, burgers, fried chicken and various local fried fish dishes. It’s a challenge to grow vegetables in this climate and terrain, so vegetable offerings are mostly frozen - mixed veg, peas and carrots etc or root vegetables. People are warm and welcoming- take the time to have a chat with the local folks you meet. You’ll hear great stories and learn so much more than from the tour books. One word of caution- hikes tend to be rocky, hilly and close to the edge in most places- not for the faint of heart -take walking poles. Loving our visit to the Rock. 💕

Escape to this tranquil retreat located less than 1 hour outside of St. John's in the town of Mount Carmel. With 8 acres of natural beauty for you to explore, you can take in the view of Salmonier Arm from the deck as you unwind. Several interesting features including out buildings and a plum orchard in the back. The area is popular for salmon fishing and the attractions including the Irish Loop drive, The Wilds Golf Course and the Salmonier Nature Park.
  • We loved everything about this house and would say it was our favourite place to stay on the entire trip. The traditional home, the wood burning stove, record player and old furniture had us wanting to spend all our time inside. Communication was easy and the house was very clean! We were a group of 6 and had a very special time.

    Dimana2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • When traveling with our family of two adults and three kids, we prize accessible adventure most of all. Our kids are happiest exploring and romping about. So it was with excitement that we booked Carol's Saltbox home in Mount Carmel. The entire stay was a delight -- from the light left on for us (we arrived at dusk) to the chocolates and bottled water (very thoughtful). The kids thoroughly explored the plum orchard and 8 acres up the hill behind the house. Moose poop was found and wild blueberries, too, but to everyone's relief, no actual giant moose. Bring an extra pair of shoes -- the hill is very wet and lush. A delightful wood stove was a huge part of the charm of the house. There is baseboard heat, so even with a chill outside, we were toasty warm inside. Let's see....a record player, colorful ceramic coffee mugs, great art, fair trade coffee....and a claw-footed tub. Plus, a long table for family dinners. Have you packed your bags yet?

    Jennifer2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Carol's place is amazing and Carol is a fantastic host. The house is so peaceful and relaxing. I really can't say enough good things about it, from the front deck over looking the water, to the propane fireplace outside, to the wood burning stove inside, to the claw foot bathtub, this is definitely now one of my most favorite places!

    Chris2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This gem is also a piece of history. The house has been modernized but still retains its historic feel. There is a great view from the deck and all the necessities you need are there. The house is very clean and yards very well kept. In very quiet area that is in great area to do day trips from.

    Bev2019-08-17T00:00:00Z

The trailer itself was spotless, as was the patio and fire pit area. It is in a very convenient location and the scenery surrounding the trailer is relaxing and serene. Both Dawn and Dave are nearby so anything we needed wasn't more than a quick text away. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, and look forward to my next visit!

The amenities were great ... a well equipped efficiency unit served us well for both supper and breakfast. Fairly tight quarters, but we were there for only one night so it was fine. Very comfortable beds.

  • Excellent host, excellent location and excellent amenities. Love the view. Very relaxing

  • If you enjoy peace and tranquility and being close to beautiful vistas, this is the place to be. An hour from the city, you can have the best of all worlds. There is so much to discover.

    Catherine2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 3 nights when my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and their house was too crowded to accommodate the whole clan. We mostly used it just as a place to sleep. Nice, clean and cozy with a beautiful view and great suggestions for local adventures. Comfortable beds and a deep tub to soak in. Cindy was great to deal with. After checking out on our final day, my husband realized that he had left his wedding band behind on the bedside table. Cindy contacted someone who met us at the house so that he could retrieve it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking accommodation in the area.

  • Cozy and comfy accomodations with everything (and more) than you will need !

    Tracy2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Chapel Arm was absolutely delightful! We could not have wished for a more welcoming home to start our Newfoundland venture. Cindy’s home is clean, very spacious with a spectacular view from on top of their hill side chairs! The view of the bay from the livingroom is lovely! Great suggestions were provided for area attractions. They were very quick to respond to inquiries. I hope to go back some day!!

    Cathy2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy’s house is homely and was very comfortable. The lounge room window is a focus - we saw minke whales, & dolphins which was a treat. Norman’s Bay wharf was a great place to view cod fishers and their catch. Thanks

    Maureen2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't recommend this lovely cottage-house more! Cindy was incredibly helpful and answered our questions quickly, giving us always precise and easy to follow information. She sent us a document explaining what was required of us, as guests, and highlighting sites of interest to tourists in Newfoundland, both near the house and far from it. We found the house in excellent order and very tidy and clean when we came in. We felt at home right away. The price we paid was, in our opinion, very low for what we got. Places not half as nice would have cost us twice the amount or more. This was our first visit to Newfoundland and Cindy's house made our trip highly enjoyable, knowing that we were always coming back to a beautiful place after our day trips. Thank you, Cindy!

  • Beautiful house with a spectacular view...you won't be disappointed. Thanks Susan for being a great host!

  • The Bay House is modern, clean, and decorated beautifully. It was perfect for our party of 8. The beds were comfortable, fireplace very cozy, pool table and bar area made for a fun night in. We plan to stay there again. No issues at all, everything you need is there!

  • A fantastic house in every way. More amenities than expected, and everything is above and beyond. Thoroughly enjoyed staying at this house.

    Brad2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking! The pictures on Airbnb definitely do not do it justice. The rooms are huge, a butlers pantry/laundry on the main floor, a sitting room and bathroom off one of the bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom has a huge walk in closet and a private deck with amazing views perfect for a glass of wine at night or a cup of coffee in the morning. The basement is amazing with a bar, with a fridge and a dishwasher and there is a pool table, perfect for entertaining. There is a deck along the back of the house with a spectacular view of the water and the community of Dildo. I 100 percent recommend this home as it is gorgeous and Susan was an amazing host! We can’t wait to go back again!

    Julianna2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Many reviewers stated that Susan’s place exceeded their expectations and that couldn’t be more true. Everything about our stay there was amazing. My kids loved the pool table and the area surrounding the home and my parents loved the deck to take in the beautiful view. I would go back and recommend it wholeheartedly.

  • The Bay House was like something out of a magazine, just absolutely stunning! Very clean, beautifully decorated and fully stocked with everything you need to have an amazing stay. Thanks so much, Susan! My girlfriends and I had a wonderful time and hope to visit again next summer.

    Terri2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Bay House is a beautiful home. The view from the house is stunning and the location was excellent for our itinerary. We had more than enough room for all of us even with my two daughters joining us at the last minute. Everything that we could have needed was there. There were plenty of towels, the kitchen was fully equipped, there was a washer and a dryer, and we lacked for nothing. Susan (the host) has even put together a book of household information, and local tips and places to go that is very handy. We had a wonderful stay and my only complaint is that it was too short. You will not be disappointed...

  • The pictures don’t do this place justice! We were wowed by the large open space and loved the beach theme. Every room has a small deck to sit outside. Beds were comfy for a good nights sleep. The home is really close to Chance Cove coastal trail and Bellevue Beach which is a must see. The soaker tub was a nice bonus to relax is after a long hike. Annabelle was a lovely host. We had everything we needed for a wonderful stay and we hope to return next year.

    Krista2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Annabelle’s place was more then I expected. Right from the moment we got there Annabelle greeted us at the door and we knew we would love our stay. Me and my boyfriend decided to go to Bellevue for our anniversary and as soon as we walked in Annabelle had champagne and a card for us. The house was so clean and well decorated, everything room had beautiful touches. There’s places to sit outside and enjoy the sun on three parts of the house. While me and my boyfriend were out sitting on the front deck Annabelle invited us over to her place to sit on her deck in front of the water and have a few drinks with her it was great hospitality. This is also a great place if you enjoy hiking and beaches. This is by far the best air bnb we’ve stayed in and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy some beautiful views.

The cottage is located in a very private setting on the ocean's edge. It is very bright and cozy and offers a panoramic view of the ocean. As well as watching beautiful sunsets from the deck, visitors can also expect to see a variety of whales, eagles and seabirds.
It is located right on the waters edge, lovely view of sunsets, birds and occasionally whales.
There are various restaurants, a brew pub, grocery stores, boat tours, golf courses and historic sites close by.
  • This was a great place to stay for me as we used the cabin to get ready for my wedding on Saturday. The space was beautiful, clean and the view was outstanding!

  • A comfortable place to stay and nice view of the bay. Unfortunately the weather was a bit too cool to take advantage of the deck and the grill. Well furnished kitchen. The bed was comfortable and loved listening to the waves at night. Easy parking. Recommend checking out Dildo Brewing Company just up the road.

  • Wow. what a beautiful place. We stayed there about a week and enjoyed watching the sunsets over the bay from the deck listening to the call of the loons. The inside was very nicely furnished and well equipped. There was a small BBQ we used a few times. the beds were very comfortable and the master bedroom had a great view of the bay and doors out to the patio. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed. Self check in was very easy. Marilyn was always prompt with communication. It is not far to restaurants, convenience/liquor store, and supermarket. Be sure to visit Dildo Brewery

  • This AirBnB has been of our favourites, period! Great location for slowing down from our more intense sightseeing in Newfoundland. It's got a beautiful setting on the ocean with great views from the living room, bedroom and the wrap around deck. The home is lovely, nicely decorated, with excellent amenities. The bed (we only used the one) was very comfortable. The BBQ came in handy as well. When we're back in the area, we would happily stay here again!

  • Lovely, spacious house, with everything you could need for a comfortable stay, surrounded by greenery, with an amazing back yard from where you can go for walks through the forest or else through the community & to the ocean . Great communications & hospitality from owner, thanks!
