Uncover the heart and soul of México in Xochimilco

You will learn about local and ancient traditions while we cook together a local delicacy in a traditional boat in the idyllic Xochimilco canals. At 9:30 am we will pick you up at your stay if is a private group or in a midpoint if there are two or more groups on the reservation, from there a private transport will drive you to central Xochimilco. After I welcome you with a traditional coffee at Dalia (a women cultural collective coffee shop) we will walk to Xochimilco farmers market to choose fresh vegetables for our lunch. From there we will aboard a pedicab, a local transport that will take us to the pier to board a Trajinera (traditional colorful boat) to start exploring the mesmerizing canals. You will understand how ancient pre-Columbian communities lived in harmony with nature and while we talk about our present traditions, we will cook (and then eat) a local delicacy, a tamal called Tlapique paired with toritos (fruit juice with mezcal). Before we end our journey, we will visit an Axolotl sanctuary. Axolotls are Xochimilco´s endemic salamanders, listed as a endanger species and used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate limbs, gills and brains. We will finish our journey in Dalia café at 2:00 pm from there you can take a taxi/uber to your next destination or keep exploring the amazing center of Xochimilco

Let’s have a chill walk through Reforma, enjoying the sunday afternoon, on our way to the market. We will explore a Tianguis (street market) and eat our way around the best eats in the city. We will eat tacos, tlacoyos, quesdillas, we will try snacks, and aguas frescas. Whatever catches our eye, we can try. We will also try local fruits that can only be found in this part of the world such as mamey, sapote negro, chico, tuna fruit Just a little bit of everything so you can experience a full day of mexican cuisine all at once. This is my favorite sunday market, very authentic and full of culture. This is NOT a tourist market so get ready to immerse yourself into the Mexican Culture, and experience a sunday afternoon the ways locals do. Tour is around 2-3hrs, it always depends on the group, how much we talk, how much we eat, etc etc. What I love about hosting this tour is that it is never 1 the same, we all bring something different to the table every time.
