Lake Harmony vacation rentals

Established as a lakefront resort destination in the early 20th century, Lake Harmony is a tiny vacation village with a double dose of charm. At its heart is the lake itself, formed from a glacier tens of thousands of years ago and beloved for its clean, clear water, perfect for summer swimming and freshwater fishing. Come winter, Lake Harmony is a convenient hub for exploring the downhill ski runs in the nearby Pocono Mountains. Aside from the wealth of outdoor recreation, the community offers small-town comforts like a farmers’ market, mom-and-pop shops, and a handful of breakfast diners to fuel you up before a long day in the fresh mountain air.

Located in the basin of the Pocono Mountains, Lake Harmony experiences four distinct seasons with a range of temperatures and weather. Summers are warm and relatively dry, with temperatures hovering in the 70s and occasionally 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and falling to the low 50s after sundown. The region is just as popular in winter for its ski-friendly snowfall. Temperatures are at their lowest in January, averaging just around freezing during the day, while nighttime temperatures can dip into the teens. The shoulder seasons are spectacular times to book one of the area’s cabin rentals, with a burst of spring growth when temperatures warm up in April, and incredible fall color as nights grow colder in October.

Hickory Run State Park & Boulder Field

Only 10 miles from the village of Lake Harmony is Hickory Run State Park, whose most prominent feature is a field of boulders, some of them as wide as 25 feet. Aptly named Boulder Field is a National Natural Landmark and State Park Natural Area, and for good reason: It’s remained more or less unchanged for the past 20,000 years.

Hawk Falls

For an easy hike close to town, drive 10 miles southwest of Lake Harmony to Hawk Falls in neighboring Kidder Township. The short trek to the 25-foot falls passes through a canopy of rhododendrons. The water at the pool of the falls is brisk but refreshing.

Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area

Though Blakeslee is more of an intersection than a proper town, the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area draws visitors from all over the region. Just 10 minutes’ drive from Lake Harmony, this modest 130-acre preserve features a trio of enjoyable hikes, plenty of picnicking spots, and inviting spots for river-rock wading.
