  • Bea’s place in Lumphanan is excellent and has everything you’d need to enjoy a short or long stay near the Cairngorms. The house is fabulous with comfortable bedrooms and social areas, and a fantastic kitchen and dining space to host dinner parties. We would recommend this Airbnb to everyone, you’ll have a great time! Thank you to the hosts for providing everything we needed!

  • We had a lovely time at ‘The Hideaway’. The living space is fantastic for a large family. The hot tub has great views, would be spectacular in summer. Communication with Bea was first class. Would certainly recommend.

  • Immaculate place in a great location. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed break in the countryside.

  • Beautiful house, all our guests were very comfortable. The place was clean, incredible view from the hot tub and check-in was helpful and pain-free. No complaints, would definitely recommend!

  • We have just returned from a weekend at The Hideaway (4 adults, 4 children and 2 toddlers). The house was extremely spacious and perfect for a large group. Living, kitchen, dining area were all open plan and very well designed. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and more. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and the kids den area was a hit. We planned on seeing the local area but we couldn't bring ourselves to leave the beautiful house so we stayed in and relaxed and watched movies all weekend. The hot tub overlooks a picturesque landscape and kept the kids and adults happy for hours. The hosts were happy to answer any questions and when we had one small issue, it was sorted out immediately. Really pleased with the property and customer care. Thanks again.

  • We had a great and relaxing time at the Hideaway. The house is spacious and nicely decorated. It offers a great view on the landscape. We highly recommend the Hideaway to everyone who seeks quietness and prefers nature over an urban surrounding.

Our home is our castle. A spacious house nestled in an acre of quiet, secluded and stunning Scottish countryside. The perfect venue for a family Christmas celebration, a gathering of friends ... PLEASE BE AWARE THAT INTERNET ACCESS IS NOT AVAILABLE AT OUR HOUSE DUE TO ITS RURAL SETTING.
If you desire a peaceful retreat in the beautiful Scottish countryside, you've found it. Donside is a truly beautiful example of Scottish countryside. Must be seen to be appreciated. Within a 30 minute drive you can also explore Royal Deeside with all its history and beauty.

  • Brilliant weekend! Would definitely stay again, highly recommend

    Arianna2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here over one weekend (8 adults and 3 kids) and had a great time. The house was spotless and extremely well equipped. We spent most of the weekend actually in the house and gardens, the games and pool table keeping the adults occupied, the kids were happy running around and playing hide and seek. We were delayed in getting there but that was no problem and communication was great throughout. It's a beautiful house and my wife loved the master bedroom with the four-poster bed and stunning windows overlooking the garden and woods behind the house. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here and we've already been talking about staying here as a family again.

    Malcolm2019-11-24T00:00:00Z

A spacious and bright flat in part of a traditional farm courtyard. Located on a working organic farm the Hayloft provides generous and comfortable accommodation for two in twin or double bed (sofa bed also available).
Stairs lead to a large combined living and, well equipped, kitchen area and bathroom with shower. The property has local hardwood flooring and features other locally sourced details such as paintings from local artists and blankets made out of the wool from Wark Farm sheep. The flat has attractive views over the farm and surrounding countryside. There is ample parking at the door of the property. (Note: the farm is normally centrally heated via the farms bio-fuel but the system needs repairs so heating is currently via electric heaters which heat up the place nicely as well) Enjoy the tranquility and take an easy walk on the farm, which is home to a number of traditional breeds of Scottish farm animals, such as our beautiful Belted Galloway cows and Hebridean sheep. Guests staying at the farm are able to buy Wark Farm products during their stay, should they wish to do so, including eggs and a range of fresh and cured meats such as steaks, bacon, lamb noisettes... Availability will vary, so best is to check on arrival. Wark Farm is a Royal Warrant holder and supplies the Prince of Wales with meat, testifying of its high quality. We also offer our well known delicious pies (frozen, to be baked in the oven), which depending on availability can be beef&onion, beef&cheese, lamb&prune or our vegan nutty carrot pie. Please note that the flat is self catering and being an active farm, the hosts will not always be available in person, but they can be reached via messages. There is WiFi on the farm, but occasionally the connection may be less optimal. Please note that when driving to the farm, you need to follow the sign for Wark Farm.
  • A lovely place to stay, which is well-placed for walking in the Cairngorms, etc! Laurel is a great host.

    Marc2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great wee spot if you're looking to get away from it all, but within a short drive from small towns. Very clear instructions on how to find it, lights and heating all on for our arrival, making it feel like a home from home. Very clean, and despite the central heating system not working, the Hayloft remained warm enough with electric heaters on a very cold and windy weekend. Plenty of hot water also. Great place for some time away from busy life and to explore Deeside.

    Karen2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for a farm B&B and found Laurel’s place. It was great fun... two friendly dogs and an assortment of farm animals. We stayed in the hayloft and were able to cook our own meals... Laurel was very accommodating and even lent us a rucksack for hiking... I’d highly recommend a stay here!

    Leslie2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice apartment. The dogs welcome you immediately. Nice environment

    Verena2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Hayloft is a truly unique AirBnB experience. Staying on a farm may not be their cup of tea, but we had a great time here. The space is large and comfortable, with all the anticipated amenities. No TV but that was JUST FINE! WiFi was available and fast, so anyone needing a TV fix could stream to an iPad if desired. The bed was divinely comfortable and the space was very clean. We had some anxiety around finding the place but Laurel’s instructions re: using Google Maps were accurate and we found the farm using Google maps when our TomTom GPS was having difficulty. We were greeted by two very friendly dogs, one of which, by the time we had unloaded our gear was waiting with a stick ready to play fetch. We played a couple of rounds but the continuing rain unfortunately put an end to that fun. Laurel left great information about the farm and instructions on how to walk the farm and visit any area that a guest would want to visit (if they want to). We’re sorry we only had one night here, as the space was very welcoming and enjoyable.

    John2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to chill out for the weekend.

    Andy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Laurels place is lovely. Very spacious and an extremely comfortable bed. The two dogs were lovely too. Didnt have time to look around the grounds but what we did see looked very pretty.

    Jane2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Laurel was a very kind host and also offers local products from the farm, like meat and eggs, depending on what's currently available. A perfect retreat to get some rest from the hectic everyday life and to enjoy nature!

Braeburn Bothy is a charming, well-appointed, yet traditional Highland cottage accommodating up to 4 people and set in the heart of Royal Deeside. Just above the small village of Finzean, Braeburn Bothy is situated in one of Aberdeenshire's most picturesque and tranquil locations.
Braeburn Bothy is 24 miles from Balmoral, Scottish holiday home to the Royal Family. The Cairngorms National Park boundary is approximately 8 miles from the Bothy. There are numerous golf courses within 25 minutes' drive, including those at Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater and Stonehaven. The Lecht and Glen Shee skiing areas are within very easy reach. The area offers a huge array of walks, ranging from the gentle to mountaineer standard. Cyclists will find there are hundreds of road and mountain/trail routes available close by. Naturally, the area's reputation for country pursuits such as salmon fishing, shooting and stalking is second to none. With reasonable prior notice and depending on availability and season, all of these can be arranged for guests. The wonderful Finzean Farm Shop and café is two fields away from the Bothy. This serves delicious daytime meals and stocks everything from fresh vegetables, Finzean beef and venison to local cheeses, whisky, beer and wine. With reasonable prior notice, daytime dog-sitting can be arranged.
  • We had a fantastic relaxing break at the Bothy. It was a beautiful space to chill out in and we enjoyed every minute.

    Kara2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Eoghan's Braeburn Bothy was a safe haven after a mad week of work. Albeit, only a 45 minute drive from Aberdeen, it felt like we were in the depth of the beautiful Scottish Highlands. Imagine "The Holiday", but make it Scottish. We fell asleep to the sound of a crackling fire in the wood stove each night, ate a hearty all organic breakfast at the Finzean Farm Shop just down the road and enjoyed hours of reading and boardgames with local beers in hand. Just bliss! I didn't want to leave!

    Ellie & Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 3 nights stay in Eoghan's bothy. Well prepared and warm for our arrival, set in the refreshing countryside, we loved our holiday here. Eoghan left plenty of tips and tricks for enjoying the area, and would definitely recommend finzean farm shop (short walk away) for breakfast. Wholly recommended, we would definitely book the bothy again, should we return.

    James2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location and has everything you need and more. The wood burning stove makes it very cosy and it's great that it's dog friendly. This was our second trip here and I'm sure it won't be our last.

    Dale2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect location to escape to and take a break. It was cosy and spotless. Will definitely be visiting again!

    Emma2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely couple of days in Eoghan's little house. It's a beautiful spot, with typically dramatic Scottish winter weather sweeping through the open glen. The house is charming; well insulated with an easy to use woodburner for extra ambience, comfortable sofas, hundreds of books on the wall and a spiral staircase up to the bedroom in the eaves. Directions, communication and information on the local area were all excellent. We hope to be back soon.

    Alex2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little home! Eoghan's place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. Eoghan even left us some essentials- bread, butter, eggs etc. Stunning surroundings and plenty to do near by. We would definitely stay again!!

  • THIS! Was an incredibly beautiful, quiet place to stay. We were able to relax and spent our days exploring the property (and feeding the animals), the local area (on foot) which was rich in history and the surrounding areas by car. The sweetheart cottage was the perfect getaway for us just before our wedding. We really needed some downtime. We lay in late in bed in the mornings, sipped prosecco and warmed ourselves in the hot tub at night. We cooked much, laughed lots and loved immensely. We will definitely be back.

    Nicol2020-02-04T00:00:00Z

Gairncliffe is a newly renovated cottage 20 minutes walk from the beautiful town of Ballater in Royal Deeside. Set in a secluded woodland location by the river Gairn, it comes complete with hot tub, wood burning stove, Netflix and high speed broadband.
  • I wanted somewhere special to celebrate my 50th birthday with my husband, adult children and partners -this fitted the bill perfectly! The house is a great sociable space. As we were there in early March we had the log burner going and it was so cosy. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and the bathrooms fitted out beautifully-lots of hot water. The hot tub takes a while to heat in the winter but it is worth it! The location is peaceful but with easy access to Ballater and lots of lovely walks. Steve was great at communicating. I would highly recommend!

    Sarah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is wonderful house which is furnished lovely and a walkable distance to Ballater

  • This holiday haven is the perfect getaway to really ‘getaway’ from it all! Beautiful cottage, fantastic views and perfectly located. The hot tub was a welcome sight after some skiing up on the mountains, we spent a week here but could easily have stayed longer! Tranquility in spades, we will definitely be back for our slice of paradise again soon 😀

  • An amazing get away for a small group or a big family. Spacious bedrooms with amazing bedding, large well stocked kitchen with amazing appliances and cookware. Hot tub dose take some work to get hot but worth it. 10 mins walk to a spa, 20 mins to the town. Fantastic place and will definitely look to return

  • Great stay at Gairncliffe Cottage. Lovely surroundings and very comfortable place to relax and get away from things. Would definitely come back again.

    Beth2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully renovated cottage that has everything you need and more for a little getaway. The highlights were the hot tub with a totally uninterrupted view and the insanely comfy super king bed in the master bedroom. The house is gorgeous but also really comfortable and practical and we couldn’t have asked for more. Steve was really helpful and responded quickly to my questions. Overall it was just perfect!

This 1960s touring caravan was hoisted into the tree as a location for the film "Two years at sea". There is a double bed and a single, but 3 people makes it a bit crowded, so i have listed it as '2 people'. No 'mains' electricity. A good view!!
The caravan had a full life when it was on the road, so the interior could be truthfully described as 'shabby'. At present, we ask you to bring your own sleeping bag (or sheets)... there isn't mains electricity here to run a washing-machine, so it's just not practical to provide fresh sheets for every new guest. So bring a sleeping bag......there are extra quilts and blankets in case it's an extra-cold night, or if your sleeping-bag is a cheap thin one. The beds are just about 6 feet 3 inches long, so if you are very tall, you might have to sleep with your knees bent. There is no mains electricity, but it's possible to be comfortable. There are paraffin lamps, plus headtorches are available that are good enough for reading. There is the original gas cooker, with one hotplate and a grill. There is no 'background' heating, you don't need it in the summer, and in the winter i assume that you will be doing some walking etc during the day so your circulation will be working well when you come in; you get warm as soon as you are standing at the gas-cooker heating your supper; and you won't be lounging around for hours in the evening. It's a 1960s touring caravan so obviously there is no shower or bath ... I recommend having an allover wash the 'japanese' way, with two kettlefuls of water and two facecloths, one for soaping and one for rinsing yourself. (Or use the showers at the swimming pool in huntly) There is no internet, though EE mobile broadband works ok for texts and simple emails without much attachments. Because the email is a bit dodgy, you're better to use airbnb's "InstantBooking" if you're booking at short notice, rather than their "Request accommodation" system. Of course, if you have a question about anything that isn't clear in the description, then you're welcome to phone or text or email. Pubs and cafes in Huntly(15 miles north) or Dufftown(15miles west) have wi-fi. There are no street-lights within 5 miles. I recommend arriving during daylight if possible, so you are settled-in before it's dark. The advantage is that you can see the stars (and occasionally the Northern Lights) if the sky is clear
The treehouse is immediately behind my own cottage and sheds which are used for a (very) small-scale horticulture business. In the middle of the 30,000acre Clashindarroch Forest. !,000 feet above sealevel. There is one other house about 100 yards away, but it is usually only lived-in at holiday times and some weekends. Apart from that, it is 2 miles to the next lived-in house. The nearest village is Rhynie, 6 miles away. There is one shop there, and some interesting 'Pictish' carved stones if you're interested in historical stuff. The nearest bigger towns are Huntly to the North(15 miles) or Dufftown to the West (17 miles) ..............5 miles away is Windyfield Bothy, Rhynie, it's also on Airbnb and you can walk there on old roads that don't usually have any traffic, possibly an occasional tractor...... so it might be possible to do a wee walking tour, stay here a night or two, then walk to there to stay another night or two. There is a map at the bottom of this page, after the reviews. You can't see anything on it till you zoom-out by clicking on the wee 'minus' sign. The way the forestry roads are marked on this map AREN'T accurate, so you're better to rely on my written directions. But if you zoom out far enough, you see some interesting places that i think are worth a visit.
  • Had a great time would definitely go back again! :)

  • what an excellent space! my friend and I were super impressed. We were in through the tail end of Storm Dennis and enjoyed some of the snow that followed. Even with the high winds the Caravan in very stable. The snow made it a little cold to wake up to but nothing that a quick cuppa didnt sort out. We had a great time, thanks Jake

  • Wow! A truly unique space. My 14 year old and I had a Scottish road trip together over half term and this place was a massive part of our adventure! From finding it, to cooking in it, to sleeping in it - an experience we’ll never forget! Thank you for the experience and memories.

    Joanne2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • I will definitely be staying here again. The epitome of alternative accommodation can be found 12' up a tree a few miles outside of rhynie. What the caravan lacks in heating it makes up in character. Little notes, drawings and quirks left from previous guests makes it feel immediately like a home. The candles provide ample light and the boardgames don't go amiss! Even in the snow and wind of a storm the caravan held its own up in the trees, just remember to pack a cosy blanket! although there is plenty at hand. The bed is definitely comfortable for 2, and snuggling helps with heating! Jake was an amazing host that will definitely see me again!

    Zoe2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jakes place was truly unique! My gf and I went in the middle of winter so was quite cold, but there were plenty of blankets to keep us warm at night. Regret not staying longer and getting to know jake a bit better, really interesting character and very welcoming. We were even late arriving, in the snow and in the dark, managed to get the car stuck and jake came out and helped us move it! Will definitely be back

    Edward2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Third trip to stay in Jake's caravan in a tree! Had a great stay as usual; discovered a lovely walk to the wind turbines from the track at the rear of the house. Check Jake's map in the treehouse. Boganloch is much more than just a place to kip, it's a wonderful playground and place to adventure.

    Elliot2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend a stay at jakes tree house, it’s a wonderful experience and a chance to try out something new! Jake is very welcoming and nothing you could ask of him would be too much trouble. There is also the vast countryside to explore and would be worth spending a few nights and days to really benefit from the whole place aswell as the host. Looking forward to a return stay.

    Alanna2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Unique, quiet and great get away for people looking for something different. Jake is full of character and adds to the overall experience!

Located in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park the “Housie” was converted from an outbuilding to what you see today. It is located up a dirt track (approx. ½ mile) and is surrounded by some stunning scenery. Although it is located near to the main house the separate access allows a reasonable degree of privacy. It allows easy access to activities in Donside, Deeside and Speyside! .
Accessibility to Local attractions. The nearest distillery on the Whisky Trail is approx an hour away but the Royal Lochnagar is closer being 45 minutes up the Deeside valley. There is easy access to Bike Tracks, Hill Walking, Bird Watching and Fishing in the summer and in the winter the Lecht Ski Centre is a 30 minute drive, Glenshee 55 minutes and Cairngorms is just over an hour away.
  • We love the house so much so we extended three nights to stay a longer time

    Alicia2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The host is really amazing, so nice, kind and patient. We had a great holiday there and the view is really awesome. And the ski school is very nearby, we were so happy being there. Really recommend it!

  • The housie is perfect. Great cozy space, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and a great location to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some nature. Laura was absolutely lovely and happy to help with anything. Highly recommend.

    Alyse2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The Housie is wonderful and we recommend it to anyone! We were warmly welcomed by Laura and felt at home from the first moment. It has everything, and more, what you need, the location is nice and quiet in the middle of nature and in the evening deer have crossed our way to the house. Just perfect! We would go back immediately!

    Daniela2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Housie of Laura and Charles is a delightful place to stay, out in the countryside where it is quiet and rural. It is a little home away from home. On a clear night the stars are incredible. There are lovely villages like Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar within a few miles, and lots of good walks.

    Jenny2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a cosy and quiet house to call home for a few days ! Both Laura and Charlie are very welcoming hosts. The housie was very clean, well equipped and heating was able to come on at a touch of a button ! Very impressed with all aspects of the housie, including the well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Excellent location within the Cairngorms, only a hour to Aberdeen and an hour north to the coast. There is no TV, only radio - so definitely a great place to get away from it all. Would definitely recommend !

    Bonnie Lee2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Housie is a charming little cottage immaculately clean, well equipped, in a very quiet environment. Special mention for the hosts and their warm welcome.

Maddies Cabin is set in the garden of a traditional granite house, called Benachie. The house maintains much of its original character. We are positioned near the centre of Alford, just off the main street. Private off-street parking is available in the driveway. Pets are welcome, however we do ask that you arrange with us prior to booking. We have two friendly dogs that share the garden.
The cabin is comprised of a double bed, seating area, ample storage space, and an en-suite shower room. Fresh linen and towels are provided. It is also well insulated and double glazed with electric heating throughout. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available. The cabin looks out over our back garden - it is lovely waking up to the sound of nature outside in this peaceful area. Please note, there are two steps up to the cabin.
Alford is a friendly village, situated within easy driving distance of a range of local attractions, Within the village itself is the Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Heritage Centre, while a short five minute walk will take you to Haughton Country Park for a stroll through woods and along the River Don. A range of other attractions are also available within travelling distance, including castles (e.g. Craigievar and Kildrummy), walks (e.g. Bennachie, Pitfichie Forest), and a range of whisky distilleries.

Live like a local! A wonderful old family home that is the perfect spot for peace in nature, fishing, Castles & Whisky, hill-walking, local festivities/history (Forbes in particular) and a really good night's sleep. Enjoy the house itself or the 12 acres of mostly woodlands at our doorstep. Climb to the top of Ben Newe (right out the back door!) Within half an hour of several golf courses and 20 minutes from the Lecht Ski Centre. Come enjoy a Newe Experience!
The Crow's Nest is a cosy flat within House of Newe. It has all the Bohemian Highland charm of the house itself but is self-contained. The big room, known as the Lookout, is set up as a dining area and lounge. The table is under the east window-a great place to greet the morning and watch the birds. The double south-facing windows bring in a lot of light (known to inspire a Painter or two)! One of the two love seats turns in to a snug wee double bed. In the wardrobe, there is a screen and DVDs and movies for the whole family. There are also games, puzzles, books. The bedroom and shower rooms have been completely renovated but still maintain the unique charm of Newe. The kitchenette (The Galley) is small but well-equipped. "An incredibly peaceful place full of lots of creative energy!"
Hillwalking, castles, distilleries, National Park, standing stones, fishing, skiing, local events (music & other arts)...etc
  • It was a lovely remote flat. We had a great weekend staying with Kym who was a lovely host. The flat had everything we expected and I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Adele2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Before our stay Kym had already sent a message about the state of the roads - it had snowed quite a bit. We are glad she did, because we were at least a little bit prepared for the white world we entered. The flat was beautiful and the room downstairs (with all the relics) was amazing. Beautiful people, beautiful house and stunning surroundings. It was just lovely.

    Emmeline2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot and great guest flat. We had a night out, at Glenbuchat village hall, for a gig, then spent the next afternoon in The Steading Bar, a less than 1km walk from House of Newe, after walking up Ben Newe. A house full of character but also quiet and cosy with lots of nice stuff nearby. Great wee kitchen with everything you need. Walk further up the track to see the pigs :)

    Elaine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kym’s place was an amazing stay. We were greeted warmly and had information when we needed. The location was great with woodland right outside the door. We loved the Cairngorms. The place has everything you need (some quality CDs for movie time) -a lovely home, lovely host and lovely location, HUGELY recommended!

  • The stay with Kym and Johnny was great in one word! What a beautiful property to stay in! After a few travel days we had our own place in the Crows Nest, great for relaxing! And beautiful surroundings for walking our dog and for running! We thought it was great!

West Woodside is a detached cottage set in a woodland meadow. It is a great place to relax and enjoy walks in the woods and the perfect base to explore everything Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm National Park has to offer. The cottage is also the perfect location for wildlife spotting so expect sightings of red squirrels on the feeders in front of the cottage and deer and rabbits in the meadow.
The cottage has two bedrooms and is the perfect space for four people, however there is a comfortable double sofa bed in the living room that can accommodate a further two people. The cottage has an open plan living and kitchen area. Logs and kindling are provided for the wood burning stove in the living room. As well as the wood burning stove there are electric heaters in the living room, bedrooms and conservatory to keep the cottage cosy. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils and crockery etc and there is a dishwasher, under-counter fridge with ice box, microwave and a washing machine in the cupboard. The water is heated by an emersion system and the bathroom has a bath and an electric shower. There is a patio at the cottage with a picnic bench, BBQ and chiminea so you can enjoy the outdoor space and the meadow is perfect for the kids to play. Dogs are welcome by arrangement and horses can sometimes be accommodated locally. There are no fences at the cottage which backs onto the forest so the whole Cairngorm National Park is yours to explore! Details on the best paths and walks and what's on in the area and is provided.
The cottage is in a rural setting and is accessed by a track road. The nearest amenities are four miles away in the village of Tarland where there are a few shop and two places to eat. Beyond that the villages of Aboyne and Ballater are about eight miles away and they both have a small supermarket, gift shops, restaurants and places to visit.
  • Wow, what a fantastic place to escape to, 2 nights simply wasn't enough to enjoy this wonderful cottage and the peaceful surroundings. We loved spending time by the stove in the evenings and waking up with each day to see all the birds and animals in the garden. We were especially lucky to have clear night's under a blanket of stars and caught some amazing shooting stars. The directions were perfect and Holly left us some fresh eggs which was a great touch! Wonderful host and can't wait to have the chance to stay again in the future!

    Conor2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is beautifully presented, clean and cozy. The location is perfect for exploring the great outdoors, bird and squirrel watching from the sun room was a great start to each day. Would highly recommend this accommodation!

    Damian2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful location. Sun room is ideal for wildlife watching and the wood burner was great our dog particularly liked it. Local area has loads of great walks and would recommend Loch Kinord and Glen Tanar Estate in particular. We will definitely return in the future.

  • The location of the cottage is very special in the woods with regular sightings of red squirrel, deer, and lots of birds from the comfort of the conservatory. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need. The wood burning stove made it very cosy in the evenings. There are some great walks straight from the cottage.

    Finlay2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a nice peaceful place!

    Amy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful location to get away from it all. Nestled in the woods, the cottage has a remote feel, with plenty of options to go wandering in the beautiful countryside right on your doorstep. A haven for wildlife, it’s nice just sitting indoors watching the red squirrels, woodpeckers and other hungry birds all making the most of the feeders on the front lawn. Lovely and cosy in the winter too with the wood burner and close by many of the best attractions of Royal Deeside.

    Jamie2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were great. We loved the antique furniture in the conservatory. Also the binoculars were wonderful for spotting wildlife and the stars on clear evenings! Thank you for hosting us in that lovely part of the Cairngorms. We will keep it in mind for the future.

Our high quality, bespoke garden room is set in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire. Rhynie is a pretty little village affording easy access to many stunning locations and is a perfect centre for exploring. Rhynie is on the whisky and castle trails with hill walking, skiing, cycling, fishing, paragliding and much more close by. We are also on the doorstep to Royal Deeside, the Morayshire coast and the Highlands. We offer affordable self catering accommodation for 4 guests.
Secluded, private garden, BBQ area, bicycle storage, multi-fuel stove, centrally heated, warm and cosy, bright. Rhynie is approximately 10 miles (15km) from a supermarket and pub however, there is a nice small corner shop in the village that sells the essentials. There is good mobile phone signal in the area but there is no wifi in the garden room (yet). Guests are welcome to use the wifi in the house if needed. Ready to hand will be tea, coffee and a pint of milk. Should you need it, we have also left some provisions in the cupboard to make a meal. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets at present. We do have a very friendly Collie dog (Archie) and as yet, has freedom of the garden until we get round to fencing it off so please make sure any gates are closed behind you. If we could request that you don't feed him as he has a 'sensitive tummy'!
Located close to Scotlands largest iron age hill fort, Tap O' Noth which provides a stunning backdrop to Rhynie. Home to many Pictish symbol stones. Centrally located for Speyside whisky distilleries and castle trails. Popular with cycling, walking, motoring breaks, cross country and downhill skiing and much more.

  • Such a cute little cabin! So many nice small touches and has everything you need. Also dog friendly which was a plus. Elizabeth was really friendly and offered to help with anything if she could. Nice river walk for the dog just across the road. Also a little kitchen if you want to cook. Would definitely recommend! Oh and I got to play with the ponies so I was happy :)

  • This is a brilliant place to get away....stunning area too. The wee beehive is a Beautiful cabin with the most amazing little touches. Cozy and warm with everything you need. We got hit by sudden snow and our hosts Liz and Brent made sure we had everything we needed and all the local info too. We feel like we have just stayed with friends and hope to return in the future. highly recommended to anyone.

  • The wee beehive was a beautiful, welcoming and cosy place to snuggle down in while there was a storm blowing a gale outside. Elizabeth checked in on us to see if we were ok. The inside was lovely with a coffee machine and kettle so we didn’t have to brave the wild outdoors first thing in the morning. Very good shower which was well appreciated after a cold wet dog walk in the nearby hills. Beautiful place to stay.

    Paula2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The wee beehive is adorable, the location is gorgeous and we had such a great stay. We stayed for our anniversary and upon arrival saw that they had put an anniversary banner above the bed. The wee touches such as petals on the bed and complimentary wine and cheese made the stay so special. The bed was extremely comfortable and it is lovely to watch the ponies wander about through the window of the cabin. If you’re looking for a cosy and romantic weekend away from it all then this is definitely the place for you.

    Conor2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Both myself and my husband and our Dog loved our mini break at 'the wee beehive'. a lot of thought has been put into the design of the place and in making it quirky and unusual and very cosy. Despite it been chilly outside the hut was lovely and warm on the inside. The location is gorgeous, and perfect for watching the sunrise over the hillsides. Would Def recommend staying at this place.

Honey Cottage is a delightful semi-detached dwelling situated up a quiet lane in the village of Dinnet, in the heart of Royal Deeside. Built out of granite in the 19th century, Honey was originally used as a cottage to accommodate workers from the local estate. Nowadays, Honey Cottage offers clean and cosy accommodation to couples, providing an excellent base for exploration, adventure or relaxation.
Cosy, comfortable and petite, Honey Cottage is ideal for couples looking for a quiet break in a rural location. Furbished to a high standard throughout, Honey Cottage has an open plan kitchen/sitting room (with a wood burning stove) on the ground floor. The double bedroom and a bathroom (with a bath and an overhead shower) are located upstairs. The cottage has a clematis clad patio area to the back, with seating and a barbecue. Rent is inclusive of all linen and towels. For the hill walker, the hills of Deeside start practically at the front door! For the skier, Glenshee and The Lecht ski centres are nearby. Other activities available locally include golfing, fishing, shooting, gliding and pony trekking.
Dinnet is a very peaceful and small village. The village has a hotel which serves evening meals and drinks (reservations may be required). Shops and other local services, are available in the nearby villages of Aboyne and Ballater.
  • Fantastic cottage with tremendous amenities - it really was like staying in someone's home! Great locality - Deeside was familiar to me from growing up in Aberdeen, but it was good to stay locally and not travel back every night. Communication with Alison was great - we stayed clear of her cat as I'm allergic to them, but both of us survived!

Old Mains Cottage is a traditional character cottage that has been extensively modernised. Originally this cottage was the laundry of a mansion house that once stood in the adjacent woods. The cottage stands in its own large private grounds & is accessed via a private road. (To be clear, this property is an entire centrally heated house within its own extensive private grounds and it is not a ‘designer’ garden shed in someone’s back garden with zero facilities beyond a bed and a Portaloo!)
Old Mains Cottage is situated approximately five miles from the town of Alford, being situated in the Aberdeenshire countryside between Royal Deeside and Donside. The cottage makes the ideal holiday home to relax in or to use as a base to explore the wonderful sites of Aberdeenshire, Moray and beyond into the Cairngorms. Both coastline and mountains are easily accessed and with an abundance of sites and attractions, including the world famous whisky and castle trails, both couples and families will have plenty to do in this most magnificent part of Scotland.
The cottage sits in its own large private grounds. Many National Trust properties are within easy driving distance. There are also numerous forest trails, hill/mountain walks, outdoor swimming sites, museums, steam railways horse trekking and picnicing areas.
  • David was a very sweet and accommodating host. They cottage was gorgeous with a nice Norwegian feel. The wood burner completed overall coziness and made for pleasant evenings

    Mads2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Much bigger than it looked on the photos, really nice location - could hear owls at night and it was lovely to wake up to the view over the fields. The house was well appointed, had all we needed and David and Anne answered quickly and were really helpful. A really nice place at a fantastic price!

    Dave2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • A very well appointed and charming cottage that offers complete peace and quiet. All the amenities you would need were there and David was very helpful with my initial questions to settle in. It's a very good base to explore the coast (north and east) and the mountains. Highly recommended!

  • Great place to stay peacefully setting cottage very clean and met all our needs. Well equipped kitchen and the two wood burning stoves is a wonderful bonus.

  • We spent Christmas here and loved it. We've spent a few holidays in rural Aberdeenshire, and this was by far the best accommodation we've had. Great location, peaceful, comfortable, everything we had hoped for - thank you!

    Robert2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don't do this little house justice. We were concerned it might be a bit small, but the house is more spacious than the photos make it look, and yet still manages to be cosy. It's an excellent location for exploring the area. The Nordic decor is lovely, and the provision of some basic groceries was very much appreciated after a 9 hour drive! A smashing little place to stay, and very quiet and tucked away.

Cosy, comfortable cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location in the Cairngorms National Park, in the heart of Royal Deeside. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and lochs with birds and wildlife in the garden. It's just 10 minutes drive from Aboyne and Ballater, close to the ski resorts of Glenshee and the Lecht, a few minutes from the Gliding Club with many golf courses and castles to visit. Ideal for walking, cycling and relaxing.
All bedding and towels provided. TV, radio and DVD player. Heating and electricity included.
There are too many walks to mention. Hills, lochs, forests... you name it, we have it.
  • We had a great week - the cottage was warm comfortable and well equipped. It was bigger than we expected from the pictures.

  • Perfect accommodation and brilliant location for exploring the surrounding. The cottage has everything you would need and more. Loads of information about the local area and recommendations for walks, sight seeing and more. Warm and cosy cottage which was great value for money too. Julie was more than helpful when booking and quick to respond to messages. Cannot recommend enough we will definitely be back!!

  • Cosy little cottage perfect for our weekend trip. Location was beautiful, bed was comfy, quiet area that’s so convenient for hillwalking in the Cairngorms (10 min drive to Ballater, 30 to Braemar). We had a great stay and loved that we were able to bring our dog to enjoy it too!

    Sarah2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a super property and exactly as described. Very good value for money, clean, and really well kitted out. It is very well located for exploring Deeside, and is a great choice for any length of stay. Communication with Julie was very good, and I was made to feel very welcome. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay next time I visit the area. Highly recommended.

  • Perfect location to explore the East of the Cairngorms, although if you don't mind driving the West side is only an hour and a half away. The view from the cottage is beautiful, there was still snow on the peak, and watching the rabbits in the next door field was a delight. We didn't meet Julie but communication via email was good and as everything was as described there were no problems. For me a comfortable bed is a must and happily the bed at the cottage is great. I highly recommend this place.

Once a laundry servicing the main house this property has been converted into a comfortable cottage for 2. The property is accessed via its own driveway and has its own garden with plenty of parking. It is a 5 minute walk to the town centre.
The Old Laundry, Struan Cottage is situated in a particularly desirable area of Ballater at the foot of Craigendarroch.
The Old Laundry is situated in the picturesque village of Ballater within the Cairngorms National Park. It is a 10 minute drive to Balmoral Castle, Braemar is a further 15minutes away.
  • What a gem! We came to Ballater to explore Cairngorm National Park, and Paul’s little cottage was just perfect. Very small and super cosy, with total privacy. In the evenings it is very toasty and we chose to utilise the kitchen to cook our own food and chill in front of the telly. On one night we ventured down to the village (under 10 minutes walk) and ate at India on the Green which was outstanding, and on another we drank at The Deeside Inn in front of a roaring fire and a live band. Our stay was absolutely lovely and could not recommend it enough.

    Fiona2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Paul’s place! Highly recommend this place for the location, price, privacy and convenience. So nice to arrive to a warmed house with supplies for hot beverages and snacks! We loved our hike on the Balmoral Estate, meals in town, and wandering the streets of Ballater. We hope to come back soon.

Live like a local! A wonderful old family home within the Cairngorm National Park this is the perfect spot for peace in nature, fishing, Castles & Whisky, hill-walking, local festivities/history (Forbes in particular) and a really good night's sleep. Enjoy the house itself or the 12 acres of mostly woodlands at our doorstep. Climb to the top of Ben Newe (right out the back door!) Within half an hour of several golf courses and 20 minutes from the Lecht Ski Centre. Enjoy a Newe Experience!
House of Newe is over 400 years old and was built by my husband's ancestors. It is a well-loved space by all who visit it! If we have time we are happy to tell you a bit of the history of the house itself and the Forbes family who built it. (Once you have booked be sure to take note of our Directions Notes)
We are tucked away from the busy world, which can mean a little more planning-but it is worth it! Our local grocery shop, the Spar at Bellabeg, is only a few minute drive west of us and is well stocked for a "wee" shop. The local pub has just shut (April 2018) as the new owners are doing renovations. In the meanwhile, there will be use of kitchen facilities (upon arrangement preferred) and a list of great restaurants nearby will be provided (nearby means approximately 20 min drive). You don't have to drive anywhere to walk in the wilderness! Just behind the house is Ben Newe. This hill has lovely wooded walks which end up at beautiful open vistas at the top. Extra clothing/boots may be able to be provided, if needed.
  • Very warm welcome from Kim. Being at home at a time of cold and snow we got a better room than the one we rented. She even cleared the snow on the path to her house. Baloo, the dog is adorable! You can go to Kim's place with your eyes closed.

    Martine2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a magical time in this beautiful and authentic home ! Kym is very welcoming and will do everything to make yourself feel at home. The breakfast is really nice and the bedroom very comfortable. We highly recommend it !

    Pauline2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Kym's home is beautiful and isolated... we came from the city so the peace and quiet was amazing. There is a ton of history in the house; it was built hundreds of years ago, and Kym had some cool books out to look through and learn about the past. Tea and coffee were great in the morning along with much appreciated tips on local food places and areas to explore. We would gladly stay again if we are in the area!

    Phillip2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to stay in beautiful surroundings where you feel as though you are being welcomed by an old friend then this is the perfect place for you! The House of Newe is full of history and charm and Kym and Jonny are the friendliest people you could hope to meet!

    Rebekka2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kym is a wonderful hostess and we loved meeting her and Jonny, we were late on arriving the first night and were immediately and generously offered a home cooked meal after a very long journey! This is a historical house which sits within lush grounds and dates from 1604, it belonged to Jonny's ancestors and they both take a great delight in sharing its rich and interesting history if you are curious. Our room was cosy and comfortable with lovely fabrics and textiles and we have no hesitation in recommending this place. Great location for hiking too...

    Smita2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 wonderful days in Kym's house. The location is very nice there are walks to do not far. We had a very nice welcome. We would have liked to spend more days in this unique and comfortable house!

    Sebastien2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kym and Jonny (and Baloo and Pip) are just the loveliest family. The space we were given was warm and inviting, the shower was a walk-in (important for people with balance issues, like me). Jonny’s family history is on display and he’s happy to give you a little tour if you ask. The property is tricky to find, but well worth the effort. You’re not just at some inn; you’re at home.

    Graceann2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Home top, Jonny and Kym are caring hosts, reassuring and friendly. The beautiful and large room allowed us to spend one of the most beautiful nights of our stay, the bed is really very comfortable and the calm of the forest is soothing. The breakfast was full and for all tastes. If we pass by, we are sure to return.

Room is light & airy with en-suite. The views over the hills & fields are fantastic. This quiet village is en-route to the Cairn Gorm mountains, which is about an hour and a half away, the ski slopes of Glen Shee and The Lecht, both are about an hour away.
Guests will have breakfast in the conservatory which overlooks the views
The village is pretty and quiet. There is a sculpture workshop in the village, which provides sculptures on the sculpture walk, and various other good walks around. There is a small shop in the local garage /petrol station but no eating establishments. The nearest small town is Alford which is 15 minutes drive away and has a lovely bistro which does really good food. There is also a fish and chip shop a Chinese restaurant and an Indian restaurant which is situated in the Haughton Hotel.
  • An excellent clean and pleasant place to stay with views across open countryside and hills. The only downside is at the moment you have to travel about 10 minutes for an evening meal, so if that bothers you eat before you arrive. Dianne is an excellent host and the room is beautiful.

    Martin2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The welcome from Diane was very warm and genuine. My room was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable and good quality bedding made for a great night sleep. Shower/bathroom was also very modern with shower nice and powerful. Had a lovely chat also over breakfast. I highly recommend a stay

  • Diane and her husband are excellent hosts. Very welcoming and friendly, and offer all the help they can in providing extra information about the area and local amenities, if needed. This is a quiet and peaceful village location. We loved the country views from our light and comfortable good-sized bedroom with it's modern ensuite with shower. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. It is taken in the conservatory which also offers the lovely views to start your day. Highly recommended.

Close to great views and hikes, quiet and peaceful, this self-contained mini chalet is great for solo or couple adventurers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat. Glamping at its best, its not for the 5-star brigade. Clean + cosy with its own kitchen and bathroom – accessible from outside, adding to a feeling of being in the wild, yet retaining modern comforts you’re sure to enjoy your stay in this one-of-a-kind home. Rentals of one month or more from £495-£895 pcm!
Den of Allachlade (or Den of Marmalade as we like to call it - long story) has been "mine" (Vicki) since 1993 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Jessica. It has morphed through several stages, survived divorce, accommodated therapy, workshops, all sorts of weird and wonderful events and has seen the transformation of many beautiful folk. It really has a special vibe to it, a Scottish twist on a Laurel Canyon type commune! It somehow manages to be family home, therapy center and base for travelers, professional nomads, volunteers, holidaymakers, spiritual seekers... all in one go. Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad. Last but not least Felix the cat. And… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. As for me, I am an author - 2nd book coming up! Hypnotherapist, NLP-er, etc, etc. I am an active meditator and Sanyasin. I work mostly from home and as little as possible in Aberdeen :) If you would like to join our motley crew, we take paying guests, part paying guests (house-sitters), karmic yogis and woofers, just get in touch! When we are at home, we love to provide therapy and teaching as optional extras go ahead and enquire if you’d like to know more. We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need. In the Fairy Penthouse you benefit from being totally detached from the main house and having your own access to the bedroom via the garden. The room has a super comfy double cabin bed and TV. In the nice weather you can lie in bed looking on to the garden and eat dinner on your own wee balcony The shower room and kitchen are downstairs accessed via outside from the drive of the main house. Kitchen has a mini fridge, microwave, 4 plate hob, George Foreman Grill, washing machine (shared with the main house), kettle and toaster. Let me know if you want a table and chairs for outside.
There are river walks a stones throw from the property, and plenty of longer woodland and hill walks and stone circles to see in the area. For the sporty, golf courses abound, and water skiing is about a 5 minute drive away. Alternatively pop along to the new outdoor swimming pool at Stonehaven, a beautiful harbour town along the East coast not far from Dunnotar Castle. In August and September there are several highland games taking place in the area.

The back garden overlooks fields and hills and, if we are lucky, has the occasional red squirrel hopping through. We have access to some beautiful walks with Glen Tanar and Loch Kinnord just a short drive away. We will be happy to point you in the direction of our favourite places and have Ordnance Survey maps for guests to borrow.
  • Gail was an incredible host for an amazing space! Modern and very clean amenities! The sauna was such a perk too! Gail even woke up early to bring us an ice scraper for our car wind screen! Will definitely return!

  • The Annex is a wonderful property and Gail was a superb host, she was on hand to give any tips on activities in the area and gave a very professional walk through of the property upon arrival. We felt comfortable and at home in the Annex, which was clean and felt very spacious. The sauna was an added treat, thanks again!

  • Super comfy bed, nice quiet room - I would have liked to have had more time to just chill there. Nice big shower, sauna is a real treat, and the kitchen area had everything I needed given most of my meals were with family staying in hotel nearby or at wedding. Gail was really accommodating.

    Hannah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The annex was stylish, sparkling clean, comfortable, and cosy. I very much enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend booking here.

Wake up to fabulous 360 degree views of rural idyll. Whilst relaxing in our stunning shepherds hut. A cosy setting for breakfast watching those ducks on the dam and the sun rise down the valley. Or enjoy the dramatic sunsets over the Tap O'Noth, a Pictish fortified settlement. Travel around "Castle and Distillery Country" from this central location. We are happy to show our guests around the farm, explain our farming system and meet the alpacas. Yes we do have loos and a shower block.
  • Great place

  • Usually when it comes to 5 star reviews the intention is to say "it was good", but this would be a definite understatement in this instance. Both me and my partner had an absolutely wonderful, 5 star time here! The scenery was gorgeous, the home was cozy and warm, and everything was provided for us with excellent communication and friendliness. If you're not sure about what to do with your time, Typhaena gave us a super helpful rundown of how we could get the most of our time there; if you're a walking adventurer or a local landmark hunter, she clearly knows the area like the back of her hand. We'll both be recommending here to many people we know, and if you're reading this I hope you go for it. Waking up to pigs out one window, ducks out the other, and a lovely green vista makes a great getaway - especially if you can benefit from getting out of the city for a few days :D

  • The shepherd's hut space is small but perfectly formed with a panorama packed with 360 degrees of interest. Despite being surrounded by life both wild and domestic it was quiet and peaceful.

  • The accommodation is very cozy and you have a great view of nature

  • Amazing hospitality, warm welcome and ensured of safe arrival :) it’s an amazing little place for a weekend get away and we were so pleased with all of the tips and tricks given by the host to ensure we got the best out of the surrounding area! Great walks and views, alongside the cosy and countrified cabin. This is ideal for walkers, couples and outdoor lovers ! (Ps don’t forget your wellies ) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  • A hut in a traditional farm that you can enjoy the real life of Scotland. By the way, the friendly farm boss gave us suggestions about the travel. It is So great! Including a yummy restaurant in Alford and excellent ice cream in Portsoy! We really appreciate her!

  • Absolutely lovely place in a truly stunning location. Would fully recommend.

  • Our stay at Tryphaena's farm was wonderful. Peaceful location with outstanding views in a lovely and very comfortable converted shepherd's hut. The farm is definitely the highlight, especially if you like animals (the alpacas!!). Tryphaena was the perfect hostess, providing lots of local tips, stories about farm life, and even some of her vegetables. Airbnb at its best!

Light, airy spacious semi-detached cottage was the first to be built in the oldest village in Royal Deeside, Kincardine O’Neil. It's been lovingly refurbished with a warm & welcoming interior, with white walls offset by tasteful furnishings. A spacious kitchen/dining room & L-shaped living room both give way to a lovely south-facing enclosed garden with sitting-out area & lawn. On street parking, oil central heating. 1 pet allowed.
On the ground floor is the living room with patio doors taking you out into the south facing garden. Airy kitchen and dining area including utility room and toilet. Complimentary tea, coffee and sugar along with high chair and children’s dishes & cutlery supplied. Spare room with sofa bed on the ground floor. Upstairs is the bedrooms and bathroom. Bedroom 1 has king size bed, bedroom 2 has 2 single beds which can be made up to a king size bed. As mentioned, Travel Cot is available along with high chair. Pets - 1 dog is allowed and dog blanket and bowl is provided. The cottage is 45 minute drive from Aberdeen / Dyce Airport. There are many great cycle routes all around this area; cycle or walk to the café in Potarch, 2 miles, along a designated route which hugs the majestic River Dee - a magnet for salmon and trout fishing. Excellent walks abound both from the surrounding countryside and two from the village itself, one taking you around the River Dee and the other takes you towards Kincardine Castle. Royal Deeside is famed for sparkling rivers, wooded hillsides and heather clad moors. Ballater is 30 minute drive, where you can head to Loch Muick for a wonderful walk around the loch. Crathie and Braemar 50 minute drive. Within surrounding area there’s some challenging walks up several munros, including Lochnagar, where you may spot deer, ptarmigans and mountain hares, or if you are really lucky, golden eagles. The burn o vat is between Aboyne and Ballater and worth a visit to see the views and waterfall, depending on season.
The local Village Store is great for breakfast rolls or fresh sandwiches made to order. Gem shop which has beautiful jewellery and gifts. Good variety of local walks within the village. Plenty local coffee shops in Aboyne and Banchory, including pubs for lunch or dinner. There’s a large Garden centre called The Raemoir Garden centre with restaurant and cafe in Banchory. Golf courses nearby, Aboyne, Torphins and Banchory. Local supermarkets, Co op in Aboyne or Tesco and Morrison’s in Banchory. Lovely ice cream and chip shop over looking the green in Aboyne. The local Indian restaurant in Aboyne is a favourite with locals, take away also available.
  • Really well presented accommodation, spacious and clean. The stores opposite great for brekkie and packed lunches Chinese takeaway 2 mins away !

  • This was our second stay at The Grove and it was just as great as the first. If there's a better value Airbnb out there I'd be amazed. The house is excellent and superbly kitted out. Lots of nice touches that set it apart from usual holiday let's. Most definitely will stay again when visiting the area.

  • The cottage is deceptively large inside and was clean and warm. Suzanne had provided not only a travel cot and highchair for my young children, but there was also plastic cutlery and plates provided which was unexpected and a pleasant surprise. Kincardine O'Neil is pretty quiet but you are only 5 minutes away from the larger Aboyne and we had a very tasty fish supper from the chip shop there!

    Francesca2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was spotless and Suzanne was a great host with lots of great tips for places to go/things to see.

Rural property , with views over Deeside, Lochnagar and the Cairngorms. On a good route to both Aberdeen and the Cairngorm Mountains. Ideal for outdoor folk, who either need a night or two to ‘catch up ‘ and are looking for a warm bed, hot shower, use of a well equipped kitchen, a washing machine or for somewhere a bit longer, there are facilities to sort and store outdoor gear The cottage is not posh, a little dated and in need of decorating, but it is clean, warm, relaxed and comfortable
The house is a traditional one and a half storey Aberdeenshire granite house built around 1800 on one of the old military roads. We are the last property before the lane becomes an old drove that leads down to Lumphanan village or up through woods and open moor. I offer a reasonably priced room for travellers who don’t need a ‘homes and garden’ type accommodation as I enjoy meeting new people. I’m easy going and find my guests accept the hospitality the way in which it is offered We have the original fireplace with a swing arm that used to used for cooking, we now have an Aga in the kitchen for you to cook on and a wood burner you are welcome to chill out or warm up in front of. For a single traveler or a couple you have your double bedroom and the use of a small sitting room, both with amazing views. Or you are welcome to share my space. For those wanting the use of two beds - if not a couple, you have the two upstairs bedrooms with fabulous views. My kitchen is a reasonable size with everything you should need, and a dining table. you are welcome to sit in the conservatory or out in the garden (possibly with the two pet sheep!)
We are on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park and within easy distance of it and Royal Deeside. Aboyne is a picturesque small town 10 miles away with everything you could need and a few village shops and pubs within easy reach. Aberdeen is just 30 miles away, yet we really feel remote and secluded There are no close neighbours. The nearest is 100m or more away. Only 3 houses in our 400m unmade private track ( we are the last house before the road becomes a walk to the village) The small quiet hamlet of tulluchvenus is at the junction with the main road. The views from the bedrooms are a bit special.
  • Great place to stay, I’m a beautiful and rural part of Scotland. Although my stay was brief, Jo was very accommodating and it was really a pleasure staying in her lovely cottage. The room was super cozy with a great view of the surrounding hills. I highly recommend!

  • It was a delight to stay with Jo (and her dogs 😊). The true spirit of Airbnb, really sharing the spaces and having good conversations. I even learnt how to cook on an Aga! The cottage is wonderfully remote too, the silence is beautiful

  • Jo’s house is like a home from home! We were made to feel very welcome (even offered a lovely cup of tea when arriving!) and everything was very homely. Great value for money and a perfect place to stay in a beautiful location!

  • We had a great stay at Jo's place. She was very welcoming and easy to get along. You must like dogs if you stay there but the animals are really cute. The location is ideal as a starting point for hikes in the Cairngorms National Park or to visit some of the pretty castles in the area.

  • The cottage was wonderful. Great in every way. But the bit that made it better than anywhere else I have ever stayed was the way the family history of the cottage was shared. It made the place come alive, both now and back through the generations. I loved that - and I loved that the hosts were willing to share it with us. Thank you!

  • A fantastic cozy cottage in a great location for walking and exploring towns like Braemar and Ballater. Big garden for our dog and the kitchen had lots of amenities so was enjoyable cooking. We had a wonderful stay here we will definitely be back.

  • We had the BEST time at Holmhead! Looking for a cosy highland getaway for the week, we were delighted to find this little gem. It’s immensely cosy with it’s log fire and stonework and the history of the owners and the cottage are displayed in plenty of cool photos through it’s life. At the end of a long day of walking in the fresh air, getting back and putting a fire on was lovely! The location was excellent for exploring the Cairngorms National Park (we drove a lot and did a lot of walking at each stop). It’s a few minutes drive to Burn O’Vat which is well worth a visit with several lovely trails to walk and if you are willing to drive further afield then within an hour you can find stunning scenery at every turn. Highlights for us included walking the Linn of Dee, driving Tomintoul pass, mooching around Balmoral and seeing the salmon leaping upstream at Edzell. Finding the cottage was easy, it’s on the edge of a small village, it’s a short drive to Aboyne where there are local amenities, or there’s Banchory a little further on. The cottage is surrounded by woodland and was really peaceful, lots of bunnies hopping about. If you go and visit and get a clear night, be sure to head outside after dark and look up at the stars!

  • Our stay at Holmwood Cottage was absolutely fantastic. The house was amazing and the surrounding large grounds were ideal for my 5yr old to run around. It was wonderful to experience staying in such an old cottage (but with some home comforts!). Ideal for some peace and tranquility but close to many towns and tourist sites. We only stayed a few nights but felt very homely and I was sad to leave but I hope to return again in the future.

    Amanda2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really lovely and cosy. The location is great in a quiet and peaceful place surrounded by woods, and it's nice to observe the rabbits and birds outside.

The Farm Bothy cottage offers luxury accommodation on a working sheep farm. It is self-contained, within a modern steading/barn conversion. We live in the other wing of the house. You can explore the farm, woodlands and our garden. Ideally located for visiting nearby castles and distilleries the area also has great cycling, golfing, fishing and horse-riding. Our local pub is a mile away. The nearest town, Alford, has a pub, restaurant, shops, supermarket, parks and museums.
The Farm Bothy cottage is located 30 miles west of Aberdeen in the rolling hills of Aberdeenshire, 5 miles from Alford. The cottage is self-contained. Part of a converted barn/steading, it is light and modern with limestone tiles and bamboo flooring throughout and underfloor heating to keep you warm. There are two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom each with their own en suite facilities, whilst the largest bedroom also has a large plasma TV. One bathroom has both a shower and a bath, whilst the other two have a shower. There is a kitchen, living and dining area with oven, hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher, sofas, dining table and a desk. A complimentary food basket is supplied on arrival (Cake, eggs, bread and milk). The owners are happy to provide other local produce on request at retail prices. There is Wifi throughout the property, although given the rural location, the average speed is less than 5 mbps. You are welcome to explore the farm and get involved in feeding the animals, collecting your own eggs and picking your own seasonal vegetables and fruit. At lambing time you can help to feed the newly born lambs. We have two dogs - a friendly sheepdog called Tip and Isla our Vizsla. Guests have access to 4km of farm woodland walks, with beautiful views over surrounding farmland to the hills including Bennachie, a well know local hill landmark. The owners are keen gardeners and you are welcome to relax in the extensive gardens and enjoy the superb views. With little light pollution, the location is perfect for sitting out on an evening, star gazing over a glass of wine. We are ideally located for visiting a range of local attractions including castles and distilleries. Balmoral castle, the Queen’s Highland residence, is only a 45 minutes drive. We are 10 miles away from the stunning Cairngorms National Park and its excellent walking, climbing and winter sports amongst some of the finest Scottish Munros (mountains over 3000ft). There are lots of mountain biking trails and road cycling opportunities nearby, together with horse-riding, fishing on the famous Dee and Don rivers and golf courses. There are many National Trust for Scotland properties in the area including Craigievar, Crathes, Drum, Castle Fraser and Leith Castles and world famous distilleries nearby. Throughout the summer some local towns hold their Highland Games or shows including famous events such as the Braemar Highland Games and the Lonach Gathering. The cottage is located near the town of Alford, home of the renowned Aberdeen Angus cattle, which has a full range of facilities including a pub, restaurants, takeaways and a wide range of shops including a supermarket, bakery and butcher. Also situated in Alford are The Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Heritage Centre. Haughton Country Park on the banks of the Don is a large and popular park with a children's play area and woodland walks.
Nearby iconic Craigievar Castle (2 miles away) was the inspiration for Walt Disney’s fairytale castle.
  • Frances and James were fantastic hosts during our stay and made my group of guests feel incredibly welcome throughout our time with them. They checked in with us during our visit, making sure that everything was going well and if there was anything else they could do at all. Nothing seemed to be too much to ask, even offering to drive us into the nearest town when it started snowing. Their beautifully kept home was perfect for relaxing over the weekend. I would thoroughly recommend staying here for anyone looking to visit Aberdeenshire or just looking for time away from a busy life.

  • Luxury! The Steading has been converted to a fantastic standard . Moreover, the homely furbishings are again to a very high -end . Although the physical comfort of the steading was excellent, what set the experience apart , was the hospitality which Frances & James afforded us . Lovely home and even lovelier people ! XxG

Once a working water mill, this traditional granite property is now a charming home with bags of character and beautiful views over the fields, forests and hills of Royal Deeside. With direct access to the Tarland Way walking and cycling track, plus hunting and fishing opportunities on its doorstep and skiing at The Lecht and Glenshee less than an hour away, Coull Mill is enviably situated for outdoor enthusiasts all year round.
The main accommodation comprises: a large double bedroom with king-sized bed and en-suite shower room; a twin-bedded room; a generous second shower room; well-equipped eating kitchen and cosy upstairs sitting room. There is also a delightful cabin in the garden with a double bed and its own WC. Both buildings are insulated to a high standard and the mill benefits from under-floor heating, keeping guests warm and cosy even in the coldest Aberdeenshire winter.
  • Great place we will return

  • Can’t recommend this place enough, excellent accommodation in a beautiful location with amazing hosts, I look forward to our next visit.

  • I have nothing bad to say about our stay at Coull Mill. The place itself was immaculate, warm and so inviting. Our hosts were brilliant and kept us well informed about our stay. Pictures don’t do this wonderful house justice, so much effort has gone into making it a home from home. My family had such a great time here that we are thinking of a summer visit at some point. Great value for money, everything we needed was in the house from extra towels to plenty of kitchen essentials. I can’t recommend this place highly enough, go see for yourself and experience a wonderful house in an amazing part of Scotland. Christine, Martin and family x

  • This was our second visit and the mill was as lovely as we remembered. It was also beautifully warm during a very cold spell.

    David2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderfully relaxing stay in the Mill. Beautifully decorated with everything you could wish for. Delicious scones on arrival, beautiful forest walks & Stuart & Val had put out a Xmas tree for us to decorate as our own Xmas away from home. A great place to stay & explore the Highlands.
