Places to stay in Kilcrohane
Spectacularly located on the Wild Atlantic Way and within easy reach of the scenic seaside market town of Bantry. Ideal location for family-friendly activities like sightseeing, walking, hiking, fishing, boating and touring. Great golf courses within easy reach. You’ll love my place because the scenery and views over Dunmanus Bay are so amazing. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
This unusual property was rebuilt 10 years ago from an old farm building into a space suitable for tourism rental. The property features a large room with a comfy queen sized bed, a table & chairs, a futon sofa (convertible) and a cosy wood burning stove. A TV and DVD player are available for entertainment. An adjacent fully fitted kitchenette features most mod cons including laundry facilities. The bathroom features a separate power-shower stall.
  • Amazing little cottage. Enchanted land, truly. It was so comfortable. I left a new man, refreshed, clear, and ready for the world ;) I give my highest recommendation for this stay. Thank you John! Best, Dan

  • Beautiful place to stay. Highly recommended. Quiet, peaceful, in the heart of coastal southern Ireland. This accommodation has all you need for a short or long stay.

  • Wonderful experience. We stayed for a month in Nov/Dec and were very snug and cosy in the small cottage (combined lounge bedroom with separate kitchen and bathroom ). Only a short walk to the Kikchrohane village (small shop, 2 restaurants and 2 pubs) nearest shopping is Bantry about 20km away so a car is needed.John is an attentive and responsive host. The water cut out one day (a well on the property supplies) and John had someone there to fix the pump within hours. Wonderful walks and the views are sensational on them. It's a place to really w i nd back and relax . The internet i n the region is patchy and as the router is in the larger cottage next door the s i gnal is weak and drops out depending on the weather so we ended up buying a couple of local vodaphone sims and used our phones for d2d internet and coms then for more complex needs used the internet at BANTRY library (visitor membership free valid throught ireland) or one of the cafes in Bantry. We loved th e whole sheeps head peninsula experience and didn't want to leave. The cottage has great views of the sea too. It felt like home.

  • An enchanting little house in a charming locale! The scenery was breathtaking, the village quaint and the inhabitants welcoming. John was the consummate host and went out of his way to welcome us to his home. A fully stocked kitchen, comfy bed and cozy wood stove make this place truly a home.

  • If you are looking for a place to stay in the midst of nature, on walking distance of the village, and with the luxuries that you would expect of any appartment, the Pinewood Cottage is a perfect option. I'm sure I'll come back again.

  • As I said to John - this is a perfect little hideaway for one or two people. Basic space, but comfortable, and all the amenities you could require for a short stay- perfect for walkers or kayakers, well provided for in the kitchen, and such a beautiful spot, near to walks and the village. AND wifi - a bonus! I'd definitely book it again.

  • The location is stunning! Surrounded by rugged beauty and friendly people. Loved the animals I met along the way too! John was a fantastic host — he even picked me up from and took me back to the bus stop in Bantry, as I did not have a car. Very nice way to start my adventure! The apartment is ideal for one or two people. It was very clean and had all the basics. The place was modestly furnished, but served my needs perfectly. If solitude mixed in with adventure is what you are looking for, Kilcrohane is perfect! Kim Dallas, TX USA

  • Directions to the property were perfect and on arrival, there is a nice sign on the gate to confirm you are in the right spot. We hadn't realised there were two rentals together, but they are separate buildings on a large block of land and we would never have known the other people were there. There is a really good, generous space for 2 people. John, the host came soon after we texted him to advise of our arrival. Everything was pretty straightforward, but John gave us some useful tips for things to doand places to eat. Wifi is poor. Despite instructions to stand at the French windows, signal is really only reliable from just outside the apartment, via the cottage next door's signal. Still, it is there and works if your mobile provider lets you down. Overall, the apartment is very comfortable and well provisioned. There is a very good laundry washer/ dryer combo, but there is no laundry powder provided, so we bought a box from the local shop in Kilcrohane 2 minutes away. This small general store is excellent and seemed to have everything. No breakfast, no toiletries provided. A few heaters were provided, though we didn't need any during our stay. This apartment has a beautiful location and enjoys great ocean views. It is our favourite of 3 Airbnbs so far on this trip. Great value, loved it! We left a few laundry tablets for you...

The Black Gate Loft is a self catering accommodation situated in the recently renovated community owned Alice West Centre which is located on the picturesque, peaceful and unspoilt Sheep’s Head peninsula in West Cork. PRICE: €60.00 per night
A brief history: The “Old Butter House” building at the Blackgate dates from the 1890’s. It was once a busy trading centre for the people from the North and West of the peninsula who were able to sell home produced butter and eggs there. In 1968 English born artist, Alice Moore West bought and restored the building for use as a rural craft museum. For many years the Black gate Museum was her home as well as being open to the public. She encouraged young people to learn craft skills in her basement workshop and was an enthusiastic patron of traditional music. On her death she left the building to the community to continue her work. The Community Council has renamed the Old Butter House the Alice West Centre and today, in the recently renovated building many of Alice West’s paintings are displayed alongside her collection of rural antiquities. The peninsula is home to the Sheep’s Head Way walking route which is justly famous, and the peninsula has been designated as a European Destination of Excellence in recognition of the unspoilt and spectacular nature of the landscape in this beautiful part of West Cork. The area is steeped in history, with an an abundance of interesting sites - stone circles and gallauns; ringforts and castles, holy wells, copper mines and signal towers. The population of the area is approximately 1200 people and the “locals” are a very eclectic and diverse group of farmers, fishermen, musicians, artists and a celebrity or two! The colourful villages of Durrus, Ahakista and Kilcrohane en route provide local amenities including the local farmers market, galleries, cafes, restaurants and bars. Directions to The Black Gate, Kilcrohane on the Sheep’s Head peninsula: Nearest town is Bantry. From Cork take the N71 to Bantry (or at Bandon take the R586 to Dunmanway, Drimoleague, Bantry). Approx 3km outside Bantry on the Cork side turn left onto the R591 - following signs for Sheep’s Head/Durrus. In Durrus take the right hand fork toward Ahakista/Kilcrohane
community spirit, there is always something going on especially in the summer.... the criac in the local pubs is great.
  • We just hit the jackpot with this trip from start until finish! If your looking for an insider's knowledge on all things Brussels with lots of hints and tips, James and Quinten have you covered. From their vast knowledge in local history to their unique recommendations of eateries and drinking establishments, this tour will emerse you in the deep culture that Brussels has to offer. I would highly recommend for the curious traveller who wants to see Brussels from a locals perspective.

  • Beautiful location with great facilities available. Annette was a super helpful host. Stay couldn't have been better.

    Stephen2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was my third time around in this lovely accommodation. This time a mishap happened to me and I had no car and had to make my way down with buses and also had no Irish phone plan, but Annette so kindly arranged for a lovely woman taxi driver to pick me up and bring me back to Bantry. When I arrived very tired in the evening, Not only one bunch of flowers greeted me on the kitchen table but another one colour co-ordinated on the lounge table. And even a freezer was added!!!. It was lovely to find a pintyof milk in the fridge and I quickly snuggled up on the comfy sofa in front of a warm fire in the lovely fire place ( matches, wood and lighting bricks were provided!). After I cooked up a tasty supper on the stove ( there was also a microwave and oven). There were many brochures and phone numbers of activities and walks in the area. Although it was raining I thoroughly enjoyed the peace, tranquility, views from my bedroom window ( that stretches from the ceiling to the windowsill near the floor. So when you wake up you just see green meadows, cows grazing, sea and mountains and sky. You can spend hours just sitying on some cushions at the window sill with a hot cup of tea and just enjoy the views in any weather. I really enjoyed a walk in the fresh rain- filled air. All the lovely colourful flowers atvthe road side were so much brihhter and sparkled with the rain drops on them. I even managed to pick a lot of black berries that I had for afters for my dinner. A great place for relaxing, recharging your batteries and very romantic for couples!! Thank you so much and hopefully will be back.

  • Large and very comfortable apartment with all types of appliances to make your holiday as easy as possible. The location is great for those who love trekking and has a view of the sea that leaves you speechless. Supermarket, restaurant and other services are about 6 km away.

  • My family and I had a wonderful time at the Black Gate. Annette was very I tune with our needs. She provided us with her number and if we needed anything she was a phone call away. We will definitely stay again.

    Dawn2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to get away from it all, fab views and quiet location close to lots of Sheep’s Head walks

    Lucy2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Annette's. The location and the view are exceptional. In the house there is all the necessary and important details when traveling for a long time: the possibility of washing AND drying clothes! The wifi is not always present but we do not come to the end of this peninsula for that.

  • John was very friendly and quickly responded to any emails or questions that I had asked. John’s wife Janet checked in with us at arrival and explained everything to us. The premise was extremely clean and the location of the cottage was beautiful. The Sheep’s Head Peninsula is a wonderful drive and has spectacular views of the Irish hills and ocean.

  • A beautiful 4 night stay in John's quaint cottage. The views are amazing. We travelled with 2 young kids and really enjoyed our stay there. The kids loved exploring outside the old cottage and didn't want to leave. John was there to greet us and see us off home. He always responded very quickly to any queries before we left. The cottage was excellently equipped; it had everything you could think of and more. It was fantastic to cook and prepare bits for our day trips west Cork has so much to offer. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Be sure to fill your car with fuel and visit the Sheeps Head, a highlight for us

    Rachel2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage, location and view, we completely loved the Sheeps Head, so much to do and met really lovely people. Recommend Carberry sailing locally

    Helen2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Top class accommodation in a beautiful area. Everything is as described and communication with John was A1. Would highly recommend.

    Noel2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning though somewhat isolated rock cottage with jaw-dropping views over the bay. The centuries old cottage has been restored to a pristine level- electric, plumbing, decor- everything works perfectly. John is an exceptionally warm hospitable host who stops at nothing to make your stay memorable. It's an Irish postcard come to life! Anyone who choses to stay there has made a wonderful choice. Wish we could go back ourselves. Absolutely one of the best b&b's we've ever stayed at anywhere. Can't recommend the property high enough!

    Patrick2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Pinewood is a wonderful place. The view is just gorgeous and the cottage is very cosy and perfectly equipped. We had very nice contact with John and we appreciated his advice a lot. We can highly recommend this place.

  • The cottage is simply wonderful. A house with old charm that meets modern demands. I enjoyed the view of the "lake" in any weather and again and again very much. I felt very comfortable in the cottage and the surroundings - for me a place and an environment in which I could imagine staying longer than a week.

Our Cottage is a 10 minute drive from Schull, close to some great local restaurants offering gourmet dining, award-winning pubs, sensational views, beautiful beaches, and family-friendly activities. You’ll love our house because of the privacy, cosiness, the comfy beds, and the high ceilings. Suaimhneas is great for couples, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
The house is private with plenty of parking space but not isolated. Dunmanus pier is nearby to stroll to in the evenings. If the weather is good there are spectacular sunsets to see from the porch.

  • Cannot rate Mona’s place highly enough. Stunning location, the warmest of Irish welcomes... they’d thought of everything! Really comfortable. Seamless communication. So close to the ocean and great places to visit. Many thanks!

  • Beautiful house in a stunning setting overlooking fields and the bay. The owners offered a warm welcome and immediately made us feel at home. The house is spotlessly clean, fully equipped, the rooms are bright and filled with practical and pretty things. An absolutely gem of a place.

  • ‘Suaimhneas’ is an amazing property with magical views of the surrounding countryside. Access to walking & swimming opportunities is within a stones throw from the house. It’s a wonderful base from which to explore all that West Cork has to offer. Mona&John are super hosts. They were both warm and welcoming to my husband and I at all times. As avid dog lovers we were searching for a pet friendly property. This house provided a safe environment for our two dogs. We would definitely recommend this property to other travelers. We ourselves hope to make a return visit next summer.

  • Suaimhneas is a superb property with beautiful views of Dunmanus Bay. We were a family of 10 (6 adults and 4 kids under 3) plus 2 dogs and we felt that we had plenty of space. Mona has thought of everything with regards to the amenities within the house, the kitchen is super for those self catering, there is so much stuff! Mona is a wonderful host, so thoughtful and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay, the house is in a lovely quiet location but a few minutes drive in the car and you are in Schull.

    Suzanne2018-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and well maintained. John and Mona have everything provided in the house and have thought of everything. The house is in a great location just outside Schull - with a lot of things to do in the surrounding areas. We were only there for one week but could easily have stayed longer there is so much to do.

  • Great house , host and location . As a family of 4 with 2 young children plus grandparents had a bit of everything for everyone .

    Derek2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine is a great host and a lovely person. She made us very welcome with good communication and very helpful suggestions of things to do in the area. Bayview Cottage is one of 3 terraced houses with a shared garden in the heart of Kilcrohane village. The view of the sea is breathtaking from the back of the house and a short walk to the beach. My 2 sons and I hired bicycles, which were delivered and collected from the house and we explored the area. It is stunning to say the least and Kilcrohane pier is perfect for a swim. The locals are very friendly and accommodating and the village has a small shop, 2 pubs, a gift shop and 2 places to eat. Ahakista, the next village to the right of the house is absolutely beautiful and has a stone circle, Arundels pub overlooking a bay and the very quaint Heron gallery/cafe. To the left is the road to the tip of the Sheeps Head Peninsular, where you will find dolphins, sharks, seals and whales. In fact the whole area is home to spectacular wildlife. The weather is hit and miss, but that's Ireland for you anyway! The house itself is spacious and clean with nice touches like tea lights, board games, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The towels are big and soft and the beds very comfortable. Watch out for the electricity charge and be mindful of how much you're using. I didn't use the dishwasher, or washing machine and boiled a kettle to wash up once a day and put the immersion heater on for 25 minutes only once. The metre totted up €9.50 over for 4 days.. 35 cent a unit.. I guess utilities are expensive in Ireland anyway. Oh, a literary festival was going on and I went to see a play in the local village... I love Cork for that! All in all, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely and felt relaxed and refreshed going home. Thank you so much to Elaine and would definitely recommend Bayview Cottage.

    Norny2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine is a great host who is responsive and engaged with your Kilcrohane visit. The Bay View Cottages are clean, up to date and convenient to all the West Cork experiences. The BVC are our go to place for all visits to West Cork. Highly recommended and so very affordable.

    John2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely spot. Great base to explore the area. Lovely walks nearby and plenty to see. The house was spotless when we arrived and we had everything we needed for a weekend stay. Kilcrohane is a lovely place to stay and this house is right in the heart of the village.

    Deirdre2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • AirBnB fans, I think you will understand about the hesitation of leaving a GREAT review because of the fear that the place you loved will be forever booked up if everyone else found out about it... But truth be told, Elaine deserves a 10 out of 10 across the board. If you are a house snob like me, you will appreciate the flawless workmanship-- the house is very well built and impeccably clean. I felt at home the minute I arrived. Adding to my first impression of the place, Elaine soon arrived with a large bag full of groceries, with everything you would need to settle in. Even though the weather did not cooperate, we still had lovely views of the water from the kitchen and the main bedroom; I had thought we were too far from the ocean to have such nice views. The location is perfect as well! In addition to all of the hiking trails, you are across the street from the main market in town where you can buy everything you need, including the fuel for a cozy, roaring, fire in the hearth room. I dozed off in front of the fire more than once on this stay... :) And I would be remiss if I did not mention the home's proximity to Eileen's Pub, only a block up the road, where a warm fire, friendly smile, and pint of Guinness awaits you. It is one of the best pubs I have found on my many travels to Ireland. I HIGHLY recommend!!

    Kevin2019-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovey part of the world, would recommenced to anyone especially if you have an interest in hiking or sea swimming. Elaine was a brilliant host, the house is great and located in the centre of Kilcrohane village which has two pubs which are great to head out to in the evening and also there is a small shop near by. I definitely plan to return to Kilcrohane in the future! Would highly reccomend

    Kevin2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine is a lovely host and the house can't be faulted. The house has everything you need including a pub next door and another one round the corner...and please don't forget O' Mahony's shop/post office/cafe/petrol pump across the road!

The guest room has a picture window facing the water, due south onto Dunmanus Bay. There is a hand-basin in the room with toilet next door. Own use of separate bathroom. Use of kitchen, dining room and outside space on request. A small dog lives here, too! The Sheep's Head Peninsula (opp the pin point on the map)approx 5 km from Durrus village on the sea road. The area is renowned for walking and cycling. Bantry is 20 minutes driving distance. Two hours from Cork City by road.
My home is situated in VERY RURAL West Cork; this is farming & fishing country - on the south-western end of the Wild Atlantic Way. Nature at its very best and a photographer's paradise! Marvelous for walkers and hikers.
  • Unfortunately we only stayed one night with Marion, but really enjoyed our stay! She is a very courteous and warm lady with a playful little dog and a beautiful house right by the sea. We would be happy to visit them again and continue our exciting conversations!

  • We stayed one night at Marion's place. It's a really nice location, in front of the sea with a big garden. She was really kind all the time, offering anything we needed. The room was clean, with a big bed, a sink inside (to wash hands, brush teeth, etc). The bathroom was correct as well. Overall, she's a great host and we would definitely stay again

The cottage is very well equipped, it was lovely to be able to light a fire from the stove in the evening and the sea view from the cottage is so beautiful. The bed was extremely comfy as well. Steve and Sandra put a nice white wine bottle in the fridge for us too. Would def go back there.

  • Amazing place and location, pictures just don’t do it justice!

    Tina2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was wonderful, and a great way to discover Sheep's Head peninsula (a lesser-known gem in county Cork). Steve and Sandra were great! They left us a celebratory bottle of champagne (our stay was part of a honeymoon trip), and invited us to pick and enjoy veggies from their garden and its amazing greenhouse dome. The peninsula is not as developed as others along the coast, but it's a beautiful place to cozy up and sleep to the sound of the waves.

    Erin2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We wish we could have stayed in this cozy cottage for longer! It was such a quiet and a refreshing stop. The view was stunning and we loved watching the waves crash on the rocks. Steve met us when we arrived and was so warm and welcoming. He said we could use anything from his garden so we picked some tomatoes and zucchini which we had with our dinner. The cottage is so cute and restored beautifully. They were so good! We hope we can return and enjoy it again some day.

    Lauren2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • A heavenly location and a beautiful cottage. I was quite poorly while we were there but no better place to be ill! Fresh veg from the polytunnel, our own private cove, and fantastic walking right from the door. We hope to return. Thank you Sandra and Steve.

Comfortable traditional cottage, 2 min from the sea and pub. One double and one single bedroom with single bed and chair bed, plus double sofa bed in living room. All mod cons, wifi, wood burning stove, next door to gallery and café, (cafe only open from April - end of August), access to beautiful gardens, well behaved pets welcome. We are 10 minutes from Durrus where there is supermarket and good family restaurant open all year round. You will be on the doorstep of the Sheepshead way- fantastic way marked walking routes all over the peninsula. Arundels on the pier does pub food at weekends and all summer.
  • Annabel's cottage is lovely, very traditional but with all modern cons. The house is full of Annabel's art and located really near the sea. Surrounded by interesting places to visit and loads of walks. The cinema and indoors swimming pool in Bantry were our saviours during the worst weather, but this area of Cork is full of places to visit once the weather improves. Highly recommend it.

  • Magical cottage in a wonderful area. Annabel and her friendly team who run the amazing cafe and gallery next door have created the perfect setting for a West Cork escape. The house is charming-- light filled, full of colour and art and thoughtfully and generously equipped. In fact it's so good you feel like keeping the news to yourself! Too late...

    Lucy2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • A real unique gem of a cottage, in a wonderful part of the world. The sitting room is lovely and cosy to relax while the few showers pass by. It has lots of handmade little pictures, homeware or decorative pieces in each rooms. We travelled with two small kids and they settled very well & really enjoyed the creativity of the house, plenty of chats were had around what different things were. The food in the cafe next door is top notch & fresh from the lovely gardens out the back, also a joy to wander about. We had our daily visit to see the pigs & the swing, the pier is a short walk away for a swim or a mooch about the rock pools. Sheeps head is a great spot for cycling touring. We day tripped to Bantry, Mizen head & Barley Cove quite easily.

    Edel2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage by the sea full of character with a great cafe attached and wonderful gardens in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. A real gem ❤️

  • The house is in a great location, quiet village with loads to entertain. The kids have a safe 2 min walk to the shop and we all rambled up to Eileen’s for a pint and some music or as far as The Old Creamery for a bite to eat. We all lived a swim and pier jump on the local pier or some decent mackerel fishing just 5 minutes down the road. I cannot say a kind enough word about our host Mervyn. We had an accident on a day trip and Mervyn made sure to take our accommodation needs out of our concerns, extending our stay until we could travel again. She’s just a great host. I think you will be like us and always look forward to your next stay. We are!

  • Kilcrohane is a great place for your holidays on sheeps head and Mervyns house is a great holiday home. 2 minutes to the pubs and 4 to the restaurants, but you can also enjoy the spacious kitchen and the comfortable sitting room. Or, if you are lucky, the evening sun in the backyard. Many thanks to Mervyn from germany.

  • Excellent holiday home in a great location. Great for exploring the stunning peninsulas of SW Ireland. House has all you need and Kilchrohane has pubs and a great restaurant at the Old Creamery, just a short walk. Thanks Mervyn.

  • Outside : a house in a block of adjoined houses at the end of the village, with a small garden and (small) view on the sea 1 mile away. 2 mn walk to the village. Inside : clean and large, well equipped. Bedrooms are upstairs. The Parental bedroom is large and has its own toilet/shower and a nice view. Altogether a very nice place for a stay far from city turmoil.

  • As you can probably tell from the other reviews, this place was amazing. The views are too beautiful to believe, and the sunsets are stunning. The location is second to none. We've stayed at many AirBnb's and we always go away thinking "this was great, but we wish they had ______ in the house." For Mary's place, we were amazed to find far more than we'd considered - she'd thought of everything. We traveled with our 2 & 4 y/o kids, and it was a great place for them. Lots of small kids toys in the house, a high chair, a pack & play, a baby gate, etc. It's pretty remote, so it's a bit of a drive to just about anywhere, but that was what was so appealing for us. If you come here, you won't be disappointed!

  • The perfect place for a quiet retreat. The view from the back of the house is unreal.

    Val2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • It was very nice, quiet and impressive days in Southwest Ireland for us. The accommodation also offers a good place to relax on rainy days. You are in this place very alone, the next larger places are 10 or 45 minutes away by car, which we really liked. The description on the Internet fits very well and what we really liked was the very nice view from the bedroom, living room and dining room to the bay. The communication with Mary and Tina (on-site support) was very good. Thank you very much and have a good time! Ralf and Brigitte

  • This is a magnificent house in a spectacular position, beautifully equipped and with a lay out that allows for some to have time out while others have sufficient space for group activities. Immaculately presented, it is always welcoming after a day out - or for a peaceful day in! Thank you for our return visit to celebrate family milestones....New Zealand is a long way to travel, but we hope to be back....

  • We had such a fabulous time at The Meadows the house is fantastic with everything you would need to enjoy your stay. We stayed there with our 3 kids aged 6, 3 & 1 & they had a brilliant time. The house had toys there for the kids to play with which is always a novelty for them, there was even bath toys there too. The views from the house are absolutely stunning. There are so many beautiful places to visit nearby such as Mizen Head, Glengarriff & Barleycove Beach which the kids loved. Mary was great for any queries we had beforehand & Tina who lives locally was also very friendly & helpful while we were there. Would definitely recommend to stay here. It’s about an 7-8 minute drive to Kilcrohane village.

  • Jackie & Jonathan are a lovely hospitable couple with a truly amazing property & grounds. we stayed in the Stables which was fantastic in every way with attention to detail that you don't often see. All their outhouse accommodation is both stunning & private. if you are planning on visiting this beautiful part of West Cork then we would highly recommend staying here. it had the added advantage of being pet friendly so we could bring our two beloved dogs (who got on great with their beautiful retrievers!). a basket full of logs, a lit fire, fresh eggs & honey awaited us when we arrived. that says it all really. being able to walk around the grounds was also an added bonus as its quite spectacular. thank you again, we will be back. Allan & Audrey (Pacman & Milo)

  • What can we find to say about our stay at Mary's? From the moment we arrived at the lovely location, it was an absolute delight to be here. The house itself is genuine and cosy warm whatever time of year you will stay. The real reason for coming here though is Mary herself. And to fully understand this you'll have to book and stay. It will suit you perfectly if you like entertaining human company (Mary) and charming animal company (cats, hens, sheep ), value a healthy and filling breakfast, like exploring less visited areas and don't need constant WiFi. Truly a great place to stay.

    Phil2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A warm welcome in west Cork awaits! Great Hospitality, local knowledge, and plenty of tea! Mary goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back sometime. Thank you so much!

  • Mary is a truly lovely person, and made us feel really at home in her beautiful old irish farmhouse. We had a good laugh at breakfast, lunch and especially with the lambs, cats, chickens and her donkey! Irish porridge with a little Bailey's is an experience at nine in the morning!!

  • We were blown away. We loved staying in a traditional Irish cottage with all the modern touches. It was cosy and warm and had everything we wanted for a wonderful stay. The scenery was amazing and we were all very impressed with the work that Bridgette has done to save this house.

  • Pretty, tastefully decorated and well appointed cottage in a secluded, secluded location with fantastic views of the bay of Dunmanus. Beautiful garden where robins, wren and rabbits say goodnight. If you prefer peace, nature and good air to the city bustle, is right here. Excursions are plenty in the area (Mizen Head, Barley Cove, Bantry ...), who wants to start up to Killarney (National Park), must get up early to be back in the cottage before sunset. The nearest supermarket is not just around the corner, so better for the first night take something to eat. A charming, soothing place where you can relax, breathe deeply - and (with a bit of luck) even sunbathe!

    Simone2019-09-16T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 6 and had a lovely time. It's a beautiful location with a stunning view. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Other things worth mentioning - The stairs may be too much worry for parents with children under 4. Also if you are nervous with driving the road to the house is quite narrow. 5 stars from me it was just what the doctor ordered !!

It is a great location to explore Skibbereen, Bantry, Goleen, Mizen & Schull while being able to return to a secluded, peaceful and quiet home. Ask the wonderful neighbours for directions to Canty's cove where you can hear little except the stream meet the sea. Also check out Ballyroside beach. Great break, we will be back!

It is also located close to the villages of Ahakista, Kilcrohane, Durrus and Bantry town. West Cork is renowned for its natural beauty, outstanding food, and a great pub culture, and the Sheep's Head is no different!
  • Great location for hiking and walking in rugged raw and beautiful nature. The house has great facilities for cooking and also very warm and comfortable.

  • This is a sweet house obviously much loved by Susan’s family. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Located in one of my favourite areas of West Cork, scenery sublime, walks fantastic.

  • Had a wonderfully relaxing 3 day break. Amazingly cozy and comfortable place, like home from home, with lovely cottage furnishings, and everything you need to chill out, including CD player with eclectic music mix. Well equipped for cooking as well! Fantastic hikes nearby and just gorgeous countryside. Would go back without hesitation.

  • Susan's cottage is a cozy airbnb. The kitchen was very well equipped. Firewood was also ready. The location was very quiet for relaxing. The communication with Susan was great. We were warmly welcomed and received local recommendations. We definitely recommend this Susan’s AirBnB.

  • Droumnea Cottage is an absolutely charming, cozy spot, ideally located on the Sheep's Head Peninsula! Susan was an absolutely lovely host and very communicative, and had plenty of great recommendations on where to eat, things to do, etc. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could need (including wellies, which was much appreciated as I couldn't fit mine in my suitcase!, is very spacious, and in a lovely quiet area with spectacular views. Reading by the fire in the evening was the perfect way to relax after a day of hiking and exploring on the peninsula. A great getaway and perfect place to relax and get away from it all! The brownies were also a much appreciated welcome treat - so yummy!

  • A lovingly decorated cottage in a quiet location. The only downside was the smell of sulphurous water. The shower was not affected. Susan has provided water canisters. All in all a recommended accommodation.

    Florian2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage and host Susan are superb. The cottage itself is very cozy and lovely decorated. Sitting in front of the fire in the evening and reading is just perfect. The cottage is stocked with everything you might need, from a washing machine to a really good coffee maker. Enjoying the first cup of coffee and breakfast in the morning outside the cottage and looking out was a really good start of the day. The view to the sea is tremendous from the porch. The cottage is located in a very quite and wonderful area. You won´t be bothered by too many tourists there. Susan was a a perfect host. She was very helpful with tips for places to go and had some really good recommendations. Every question we had, was answered super fast and she took good care of us. Best host we had so far! If you are staying at the cottage, make sure to visit the Heron Cafe and eat some Guiness chocolate cake in the garden! For dinner we recommend Arundels by the pier and everything they have and if Susan tells you that there will be some music in the Tin Pub, make sure to go there. All in all just wonderful! Thanks a lot for very relaxing stay!

  • Spacious, beautiful and sparkling clean house in a remote West Cork location. The house has everything for a perfect get away if you are looking for a quiet, internet free time by a fireplace and home cooked meal. Amazing kitchen/dining area with all necessary amenities. We spent 2 nights at Fiona's place, it was a really rainy/windy weekend, so we enjoyed the fireplace and a nice walk on Sunday when it got dry. Communication with Fiona was outstanding and the late check-out has really added to a superb weekend.

  • Great and clean place. Few notes if you want to rent it. Nearest shops and petrol station miles away, so nake sure you're ready when going there. Mobile coverage inside house very bad. No Internet as well. We brought board games for kids and movies with projector. On top floor there is ideal place if you own projector, kids were extremely happy.

  • You'll love staying in this house, really well located in the adorable village of Ahakista. Thanks to Fiona for being so responsive on the occasions we had questions or little requests!

  • Fiona’s house was beautiful, plenty of space for all of us and very clean. The house is in an amazing location, a couple of minutes walk from the beach, “tin shed” with it’s stunning beer garden & music night, and Arundel’s by the pier (take the path behind the garage) which has a small playground. We ate two nights at Arundel’s and took review advice to book....which was needed as people were being turned away both nights. Short drive to Sheep’s head peninsula which has a lovely walk to the lighthouse. The walk was a bit uneven but safe for children, doing the full loop is longer-we stuck to the lighthouse and back. We loved our stay and hope to go back one day

    Sinead2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, modern and close to everything you would need for a quiet getaway in West Cork. Minutes walk to the pier, pubs and cafe; short drive to great walks and hikes, Bantry close by for bigger shops and more. Fiona was an amazing host, quick to respond to all questions and the house is perfect for families and friends. We’ll be back!

I restored this cottage from 2003 with love and every ounce of my soul has been poured into bringing it to a cosy retreat perfect for two or a small family or 4 close friends. Take time to Hike, Bike, Read, Write, Draw, Think, Play, Live &make Love. There is a large extension which is another house which can be rented separately or together if you have a larger group. Thick stone walls means there is excellent sound proofing. You would not notice the guests next door unless you meet them.
Hello there, If you love amazing views of the sea in front and the peace and quiet of the countryside, then this place is for you. Sleeps one or 2 couples comfortably.(there are 2 bedrooms with a double bed in each. there is also a single bed in the bigger bedroom. I have a fold out couch downstairs. 4 people can be accommodated but then again how close of friends are you? My cottage really suits people who love the country cottage feel and relaxed atmosphere, if you love monotone hotels and convenience to towns/shops/arcades this is not for you. The entertainment on offer can be having a cuppa while watching the two baby bunnies playing in my wild garden and somehow avoiding my visiting fox who almost daily pops by.....also we two great local pubs with friendly people and good cheer....also one does really good food. This is a cottage rental rather than a bed and breakfast. Some dried foods I leave you just in case you arrive and have forgotten to get shopping, even thou Short and long term rentals are possible, small or large groups, just ask and I shall see if I can make it possible for your situation. It's a quiet neighbourhood, occasional tractor factor, rabbits, foxes, migrating swallows....you get the picture....relaxation, views, perfect for relaxing get aways. My cottage is about 100 plus years old. It is open plan down stairs with kitchen diner one side and sitting room with stove. It has two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. I restored it and lived in it since (URL HIDDEN) had been derelict with roof falling in no windows or doors so it has been a labour of love and now I happy to rent it to people who will enjoy it and have a great experience on the penninsula. I built on and I live in the "West Wing" mostly although I often live with my boyfriend but sometimes I have a weekend of R and R in my cottage where I read books and invite friends over and have tea in front of the fire and play scrabble.... There is something magical about it....everybody loves the cosy feeling. I prefer to only accept minimum of 3 nights bookings. It is a lovely penninsula and I'm sure you won't regret 3 nights staying here. I can offer a variety of accommodation as in if it's a larger group you can have the "West Wing" which has another 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and dance/yoga floor. I can put in a futon or pull out couch in the cottage just ask and see if I can sort out your situation. I am in the middle of nowhere but there's nowhere else I'd rather be having been around the world I've come home to Ahakista. 1 hr 45 mins drive from Cork city/airport, 17 km from bantry town, no bus services to Ahakista . No trains down here etc. You need a car and a Sat Nav or a map and a good sense of adventure and an ability to ask for directions. It's beautiful and is perfect for folk who like hill walking and going off for picnics or lunches out and drives to ring of Kerry and the five penninsulas. Perfect base to go explore from. Thanks for checking out my profile I'm now almost 3 years being a member of Airbnb and really excited by the concept of making the global community welcome in my home . I backpacked around the world for 2 years and wish this concept was available back then. I used to wander into villages and ask to be hosted for a fee, I do believe that it enriched my experiences greatly. I will guide you/give directions/ advice if you want or leave to discover by yourselves as you wish. The original cottage is over 100 years old and I have retained as much of the original features. I've got underfloor heating (winter time) and a lovely stove which is not only good for atmosphere but it's cosy in the not so balmy evenings. Wooden floors, rustic feel, open plan kitchen diner/ sitting room. If it's a wet weekend and you can't get out and about walking! You could paint, draw, read, write, cuddle up on the couch in front of the fire. I like to play board games and have a large selection and books/dvds/music. There is also the local bars which can be really lovely with open fires and live music or sitting out and having a BBQ watching the sun setting over the bay. Food: Restaurants/café/bars with food in the area, information pack/maps/guide books/walking maps etc. available in the house. Hope to see you here. Sheila
Peaceful countryside with panoramic views of rolling hills hugging the valley of a patchwork of forty shades of green. A close knit community of people who have grown up together and look out for each other. If you ever wanted to find an idyllic life this is the place to live. I wish I was there more often.
  • Sheila is an excellent host! Very quick to respond and helpful with house and local tips. The cottage is lovely, clean and super cosy. The views are even more amazing! Loved being so near the sea front. We’d love to come back sometime :)

  • Two of us stayed at Sheila's place for three nights. We had a real great time. The house waa perfect for us, cozy and warm with a fireplace and lovely kitchen. We didn't even feel the storm Brendan while hiding behind thick walls of this house. The location is amazing, so much to do nearby. We had lovely chats with Sheila and got lots of tips for the best ways to explore the beautiful Sheeps head and nearby area. Definitely will be back!

    Kristina2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage! It was the perfect place for our holiday respite during our travels in Ireland. Sheila puts so much love and care into her place that it is a true pleasure to be there. We love the remote setting, the incredible views of the Bay, and the peace and tranquility. Can't wait to come back!

  • What a delightful place to stay! This is a really gorgeous home in a very special location. We were lucky enough to snuggle by the fire listening to the rain one day, but also get out and about exploring the beautiful Sheep’s Head peninsula too. Sheila is a great host and we really felt lucky to stay in such a nice place.

  • Wow, what can I say that hasn't already been said. Jackie and Jonathan are such fantastic hosts. We received such a warm welcome from them and their two fur babies Safron and Elsa who are two of the calmest most gentle dogs I've ever met. Rock Cottage is in such peaceful surroundings. There are beautiful walks around the property. The house is very well equipped. As a chronic pain sufferer one of the things I dread about going away is the quality of the mattress on the bed but this was one of the most comfy mattresses I've slept on!!! Can't recommend Rock Cottage highly enough. It was just fabulous.

    Jane2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Simply ... ..fantastic, a very pretty house with an incredible cachet and perfectly equipped, perfect cleanliness. In the middle of nature in the beautiful peninsula of Mizen Head, you will be very well received by Jacqueline & Jonathan who will do their utmost to make your stay pleasant and unforgettable as well as their many animals (dogs, cats, donkeys etc. ..) Great base from which to explore the peninsula and surrounding areas like mizen and beara. Loved it will definitely be back.

  • We had a really good time in Heran cottage, with 6 persons and a dog. There was enough place for everybody , a big kitchen to cook in and eat together. The view from the house is great, you can see the sea and into the nice big garden. It's a quiet place . The sheep head hiking trail is wonderful, but not allowed for dogs, because of the cows and sheeps on the fields. Thanks Josephine for everything Susanne

  • We spent a great week in July 2017 in Heron’s cottage. The house is comfortable, with a wide garden and a beautiful view westside toward the sea and the Mizen Head Peninsula. Plenty of walking paths around, with incredible flowers everywhere. We have been warmly welcome and local people are very nice. And they cook tasty vegetable soups!

    Vincent2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely wonderful week in this lovely home which has the most gorgeous views of the water. The house is spacious and well appointed and the views out the storybook windows from all floors are spectacular. The grounds are extensive with lovely gardens and it was so relaxing to be able to watch the children play while enjoying the patio. The location is very convenient not only with the short walk to the village but also for exploring Sheepshead and West Cork. Josephine and Maurice were lovely and most helpful to be in touch with. It was all very easy and is a place, I would love to see in any season.

  • As the name states - magical views! Truly the most superb spot to be in West Cork. We stayed in the room up top just so that we could wake to the sunrise and that view every morning. It was a wonderful time and we hope to bring our extended family out with us next time as there are plenty of rooms and beds!

  • The View. The View. The Hike. The View. We wanted solitude and we got it. Amazing place for a family getaway or a group. Close enough to the village of Goleen but amazingly tranquil. We have never stayed in a place with such an amazing view. It makes Big Sur look like Coney Island.

  • Birgit's home is truly lovely. The views are amazing and the living room is so cozy. There is also plenty of space and amenities for larger groups. Birgit is so nice to interact with and has lots of suggestions for things to do in West Cork. My friends and I loved this house and we would definitely stay here again!

  • Birgit’s house really is a home away from home. Everything you need is there. This is the perfect getaway from it all. We enjoyed the open fire, the cosy bed and the breathtaking location with magical views. Birgit is a most gracious host and great detail has been taken with house instructions to make the stay stress free and comfortable. We most definitely would stay again 👍

  • This place is just lovely (if you like silence, a sky full of stars or the hauling wind during badder weather). There's a room for yoga or meditation with a beautiful view. Birgit ist Betty helpful and makes your stay unforgettable. She provided very specific and detailed local tips. We watched a beautiful , had a great time in a small local pub, watched the stars, the milky way and the sky during an open night. We cuddled near the fire and listened to the weather.

  • Great location with the most incredible views. Lovely and cosy inside with lots of amenities for cooking. Birgit gave us some really useful tips on what to do, we will definitely be back in the future!

Surrounded by beautiful scenery and amazing coastal views Little Cove is a lovely property. The strand and sea are literally meters from the house. Plenty to see and do including swimming, fishing, cycling, golf, horse riding, sailing and walking ( the famous Sheeps Head Walk is only a short distance away ) . The nearest village is only three minutes drive where there are two pubs and restaurant all overlooking the Bay and Ahakista Pier. Live music most nights.
The cottage is very well equipped - the kitchen has everything a good cook would want, there is a good selection of books for people of all ages and backgrounds, large wall mounted tv and free wifi.
Often described as a jewel in the crown Reenmore is a very special place - you couldn't be any nearer to the strand and sea. lots of nice walks taking you to places of interest and for any small children the opportunity to see a lot of farm animals.
  • Beautiful location for a break away from it all. The sound of the sea is magical and there are plenty of walks on the Sheep’s head. House fully equipped for a cozy night in

  • One of my favourite Airbnb's. Magical setting, beautiful place and fab hosts. Thanks so much Tony and family. Can't wait to return.

  • Fantastic property in a magical location. Tony is one of the nicest hosts you could ask for. We had an amazing weekend. Thanks for everything Tony. We hope to return soon.

  • We had a wonderful stay at this Reenmore home. Location was great giving me a great perspective on where my grandmother lived. Caroline the caretaker, was wonderful always available to answer questions, she even stopped by with an apple tart the first day. This home offers spectacular views! I would love to make a journey back and highly recommend this home as a stay for folks traveling to Ireland and want the real country feel. The drive to town either inland or by way of the Atlantic Way offers wonderful opportunities to see the true Irish countryside. There were 12 of us on Holiday and not one unhappy soul in the bunch. We will be back! Joanie Shea Massachusetts, USA

  • The cottage was in a beautiful location. Perfect for a peaceful getaway in West Cork. We loved the bay right next to the house. The home was warm and had everything we needed to be comfy and enjoy a wonderful time.

  • This was a great little place to rest and relax and was everything we needed. Would love to stay again maybe for longer the next time. It was a home from home

  • This location is the best choice, if you want to stay quiet and and peaceful. We enjoyed the view (Atlantic Ocean) and the silence. You want to be awakened by the sound of the sea or by the mows of the sheeps. This cottage has everything you need. A big kitchen, a comfortable living room and two bedrooms. The two bathrooms are small but totally ok. Tony asked regularly if everything is ok - that was very nice and he has good tips. So do not be afraid to ask. A total of all, it was a very nice stay and we enjoyed every day in this sweet cottage. From time to time you want to meet very nice people there. From the shepherd until other visitors. We would always come back. Thanks, Tony :) This house is the best choice if you are looking for a very quiet and peaceful place. We enjoyed the view of the Atlantic Ocean and the silence. You are awakened by the sound of the sea or the mowing of the sheep. The house has everything you need. A large kitchen, a cozy living room and two bedrooms. The two bathrooms are small, but adequate. Tony has regularly asked if everything is ok. We asked him where we could buy good fish for example - he immediately had three tips. From time to time you will meet very nice people on site - from shepherds to other visitors. All in all, we really enjoyed the stay in this cute little house. We would come again and again. Thanks, Tony :)

This is an extremely comfortable house with hot tub outdoors. It is a well equipped home with stunning views and a balcony from which to enjoy them. There is a very comfy and cosy den for reading or tv. King size bed and dressing room, comfy double bedroom ensuite. Large yoga room!
hello all, Welcome to your holiday on the Sheep's Head peninsula. My West Wing is an entire home and it is all yours to enjoy a home away from home experience. I have two separate Airbnb listing at this one address. 2 large bedrooms, a large front room the "dawn ballroom" perfect for yoga dancing and large dinner parties and when the table is extended. There are two bathrooms one upstairs and a downstairs wc and shower wet room. kitchen is large and a delight to cook in. I have designed it and built it while living next door in the cottage "Rent Peace and Quiet and hillwalk" also listed on Airbnb. Guests will have a peaceful tranquil location with spectacular views and it is a delight for anyone who needs to escape the city and just breath. The neighbours are sweet and farming and fishing and arts and crafts types. There are two pubs one has a restaurant and both have really picturesque beer gardens overlooking the harbour. The village of Ahakista is rather tiny with just two pubs an art gallery/coffee shop and garden, a school and a church (all spread out) There are two other villages on the penninsula, Durrus and Kilcrohane and we are halfway between them. There are shops and cafes in both villages. Lots of hill walkers come for easy and unspoilt walking routes called the sheep's head way. It is best to come by car as there really is very poor public transportation. I have had cycling tour guests who arrived and stayed to rest at the end of their journey. My place is unique or special as it has a lovely character without the perfection that makes hotels and modern houses boring and soulless. I love it and am very proud of it and I hope you will love it as much as I do. Thanks for considering my Wild Atlantic way view for your holiday destination. Sheila wifi internet/restaurant and bars.
Great views, Eden award winning area of natural unspoilt scenery. Great little pubs and bar food, great hiking and biking available, sailing trips available in Ahakista. Sheep's Head walking routes.
  • perfect place to stay

  • Sheila's place is warm, cosy and the views are just amazing. Communication with Sheila was easy and responses were quick. The place has everything you could need for a lovely stay. If we travel to Sheep's Head again we will definitely try to stay at Sheila's place again. The Matthews Family

    Deirdre2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila's cottage is lovely, quirky, really peaceful and homely. Lots of extras like oil and spices and cereals. Was brilliant to have a bag of rice in the cupboard for an uplanned dinner in when we were too tired to go out. Really appreciated the fire being ready to light, it made a rainy evening very cosy. Loved being able to enjoy the views while having breakfast. The big double bed was really comfy.

    Lorraine2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home, well cared for and situated in breathtaking scenery. Serene and relaxed. Sheila is a great hostess, who handled our queries well and proved to be extremely hospitable when we encountered some problems. I most definitely recommend this home.

    Iris2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a spacious house with great views down to the sea. We only stayed for one night to break our journey along the Wild Atlantic Way, but could easily have stayed for longer as a base to explore and enjoy the surrounding area, which appears to be less visited that some of the other peninsulars, but has much to offer.

    Stephen2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location off the beaten path, quiet and serene, Sheila’s place has everything one needs for a comfortable stay. Great location, a visit to tip of the peninsula at sunset is a must.

    Alex2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Sheila's place. The cottage is beautiful and the view is even better! Sheila is a great host and made us feel welcome and at home. The location at the sheep's head peninsula is amazing. You can make amazing walks among the cliffs and the locals down in the pub were really kind and had great suggestions on how to spend your days in this beautiful area of Ireland. We hope to be back some day!

Restored original stone barn/loft (The Studio) and adjacent farmhouse (The Cottage) fully renovated in 2009, set in mature grounds with small outdoor pool and spectacular views over Dunmanus Bay, Mizen Head and the West Cork Countryside.
Many original features have been retained to create a unique and peaceful atmosphere which compliments the surrounding land and sea. The Studio is a separate self-contained unit next to the Cottage. Inside there is a kitchen lounge area with sun room attached with sea views. The sun room has its own en suite shower room and iron day bed with trundle to form a king or twin bedroom. Upstairs is a king bedroom with sea views and en-suite shower room. The larger Cottage next door (listed separately) has 3 bedrooms (with king, twin and singles), family bathroom and en suite shower room to the master bedroom upstairs. Downstairs is a large open-plan kitchen/living room with open fire, Rayburn range cooker and farmhouse kitchen table with seating for 4 guests, a study with single sofa bed and sun room with sea views.
The Sheep's Head, West Cork: A finger of land 25 miles long and no wider than four miles, the Sheep's Head Peninsula (known locally as Muntervary or Rinn Mhuintir Bháire in Irish), is set between the blue water bays of Bantry and Dunmanus: a visually striking part of the West Cork coastline. From the stony heights of Seefin Mountain to rolling pastures and sea cliffs, the peninsula offers great land and seascapes. Laharandota is just 2 miles from the southern end, where the Sheep's Head Lighthouse clings to its jagged tip, 400 feet above the surf. Take a moment to soak in the balmy (yes, balmy!) breezes: the Gulf Stream nips Ireland along this coast, explaining the presence of palm trees in the cottage's garden as in many others. Stroll down the lane from the Cottage directly on to The Sheep's Head Way, one of Ireland's 31 Waymarked Ways (marked trails). The Peninsula's natural wild beauty makes its 55 mile trail stand out from others and offers an exciting challenge for all keen walkers. If, however, you do not fancy yourself as a 'wild rover', there's always riding, cycling, sailing, kayaking, diving, golf, cookery classes or just a relaxing afternoon taking in the fabulous Cork countryside and sea views! Laharandota is located on the southern side of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, about 4 miles south west of the village of Kilcrohane and 15 miles from the bustling market town of Bantry, West Cork. The propoerty is ideally located for touring the West Cork area, for walking, cycling or sailing with it's many walking routes, scenic drives, coves and bays. West Cork attractions include Garinish Island and Glengariff, the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head, as well as the town of Bantry, with its many shops, great restaurants, bars and cinema. The area is also well known for its raw natural beauty, attracting walkers, artists and anyone with a love for the outdoors to the area. Within a short drive from the property is the village of Kilcrohane, with its quay and coves for bathing, two pubs, shop and local church as well as the Sheep's Head Lighthouse and Way, which passes directly behind and in front of the cottage's gardens. Local activities: Diving, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, kayaking, mountain biking, cookery classes

Those looking for peace and seclusion, is in perfect hands. There were also beautiful hiking trails. We were completely satisfied. The studio is very lovingly furnished.

  • My partner and I stayed in this beautiful remote location for the October Bank Holiday weekend. I cannot recommend it enough! The house is absolutely stunning with a stunning garden, a breathtaking pool view and beautiful interior. So peaceful! The view from the conservatory and bedroom is next to none. The trip was made extremely easy by Julie who was easy to contact and gave loads of local tips. The interior is so beautiful - it is like a french cottage in Ireland. The bed is so comfy and the fire kept the house very cosy in the cold late autumn evenings :) If you want a stunning break away from the world in the gorgeous country side with your partner or friend this is definitely the place to go!! It is very close to Sheeps Head and Kilchrohane and between a 30 minute to an hours drive to other larger vilages eg schull, Baltimore, Mizen, which was handy for us. We will definitely be back in the future.

    Hilda2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a relaxing weekend away. Managed a plunge in the pool in the mornings (great way to wake up in October). Beautiful views and location.

  • We enjoyed 4 days in Julies place on our honeymoon. She very kindly left us some bubbles and treats which we enjoyed in front of the fire on our first evening! The place is beautifully decorated and i would highly recommend a stay for a relaxing rural retreat!

    Ann2018-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We are truly in love with this place. It was so cozy and decorated with a lot of details. The place around is so idyllic for some romantic walkings or just to enjoy the view from the couch. It was just amazing. Also there are a lot of Little things provided and all bio or eco. Like soap, Hand care, washing powder and cleansing stuff. The oven makes a lovely fire and warms the entire house. Meanwhile the pool is cooling ;) Super lovely! Thanks again :)

The house was perfect and we looked forward to returning every evening to cook and enjoy the panoramic view from the sunroom. There was great space outside for the kids to safely play. Make sure to go for a few pints in The Tin pub and Arundels and lunch in the Heron Gallery is definitely worth a trip.

The Cosy Chalet is linked to "The Wild Atlantic Way". You will find fine scenery, superb beaches and lakes. All kinds of water-sport activities. Very good locally produced food, like cheese.
Who likes traveling knows the problem. Hotels can be quite expensive. One has to spend in the hotel for food and drinks. B&B's are sometimes offering small rooms with none or minimal cooking-facilities. You will miss your own private living-room. Holiday-houses are often only on a weekly base to get. They are sometimes too big. You can land "in the middle of nowhere" and with no reception. With our ambitious and new concept we try to make things a little bit better for you. Our accommodation is "All Inclusive"! Only the use of the washing machine (incl. washing-powder) and the tumble-dryer costs € 5 extra each. Bikes € 10/day We speak English, German, Russian and some French. You'd like to cook a lobster or you intend to smoke your self-caught Mackerel or Pollock, but you don't know how to make it. Please call us. How to find the cockles and mussels at the beach and how to make the legendary "Spaghetti Vongole". There would be so much to tell. You'll find "The Cosy Chalet" on our own 60.000m2 park, forest and lawns. Save Sandy Beaches 500m from our gate. You walk just across the road and you are on our private wood-lane to the sandy-beaches. The Cosy Chalet was 100 years ago may be a shelter for shepherds and their sheep. We had to demolish the walls and built it new. The Cosy Chalet is now a mix of old stone-walls and a massive oak-frame coming from England. Many interiors and paintings are true and period. It is a "One-In-All-Solution" on 2 levels. The Cosy Chalet offers 2 beds (80x200) in the attic, reachable with a stair/ladder. The attic has only a max. height of 1,50m. One cannot stand upright! There is a little "Velux" with may be the best sea-views. Because of the limited heights and the way to go up, we can recommend these beds only for younger people! All others find a sofa-bed on the ground-floor-level (120x200). Please consider that click-clack sofa is not as comfortable as a reall bed. There is a full size kitchen (that means absolutely everything you need, will be there.) of course with a full-size dishwasher and a dining-table. Bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Sufficient tea-towels, bath-towels, even those for the pool will be there. Free Sat-TV (some hundred channels in many languages), DVD, CD, WiFi. Please understand, that you may have to run a little fire to make the Chalet cosy. You will get all logs for free. All logs are homegrown and perfectly seasoned. The good thing is, you heat with a long lasting positive effect to the environment. Your "South-Terrace" is built like an old Roman Road. There you will find chairs and a coffee-table. A second, westerly terrace, surrounded by Rhododendrons will provide you with a simple dining-table and benches. From there you have direct access to the natural swimming-pond (water is like swimming in a river, no clorine, no chemicals) and the decking with fantastic views over the Carbery Islands, Castles and Fastnet Rock. The is a shower with a fresh running water on the decking. The Cosy Chalet has 4 sleeping options and this is may be ok for one night or two. But to get a really cosy feeling we recommend it only for two people. The Chalet is not suitable for people with mobility issues(narrow door to the bathroom, step on the entrance, sleeping area in the loft). That was disigned for feeling-young-people and cupples And please no children who are not good swimmers. Pool! Or come with the bus and rent a bike here. Transports: Bus Eireann 2x daily from and to Cork. From our gate. • We had an absolutely brillant three nights at Hannes place and cannot recommend this wonderful couple highly enough. They are fabulously welcoming hosts and brilliant at what they do. The cottage was kitted out with absolutely everything we could have needed. The quality of everything from decor to utensils was top notch. The setting and pool are the highlights and we cannot wait to return for more stargazing and coziness. Highly recommended!

  • Hi Hannes, Thank you for making our holidays in West Cork very special. It is always the people that make a lasting impression in all our trips and you are certainly one of them. I am enjoying your homemade smoked mackerel pate and I added fennel fresh from our garden :) Special thanks to Florian for allowing us to join in his fishing escapade. It was so much seeing how the fish we got from the sea ended up on our plates. The smoking machine is so cool. You guys are the best people for gastronomic adventures :) Cheers from Maej & Dave

  • The house is gorgeous, the property is well designed all the way up from the drive and you feel right at home at the top of the hill with the garden and decking and pool. Inside is very cozy, but there is plenty of space for four people to move around comfortably. There is no oven but everything else you could want in the kitchen. The hosts are very friendly and good fun. They were always helpful, knew a lot of places to eat and check out in the area and when we asked for some extra wood for the fire it was waiting for us when we got home. All of our highlights were nearby in the car, schull, barleycove, mizen head, Bantry are all a short drive away and the ballyrisode beach is 10 minutes walk down the road. Beautiful landscape and scenery to drive through. I would recommend this place to any small groups looking for a base in West cork or couples spending some time in the area.

NOTE: This house is under construction, scheduled to be completed in April. You can see plans in the posted images, but no photographs will be available until construction is completed. The completed house will be approximately 2100 square feet and will be finished to a very high standard. A seaside home in the peaceful Irish countryside of County Cork, near the village of Schull. A short stroll down the front lawn to the shoreline where you can relax in the hammock or paddle in the kayaks!
Downstairs... Downstairs will feature the expansive master bedroom with en suite and walk in wardrobe. There will be a sitting area with large TV and AppleTV connectivity. The newly constructed extension will have a large kitchen (including 2.5-meter square pyramid skylight) with double ovens, induction hob, and a large fridge freezer. The open plan extension will open into a sunroom with large sliding glass doors facing the sea and to the South. There will be a separate extension to the rear with a mudroom, WC, and utility. The extensions will have underfloor heating. Upstairs... Upstairs will have three bedrooms and one bathroom. NOTE: a few universal plug adapters will be available in the house. Towels, bed linens, shampoo, conditioner, bath and hand soaps will all be provided, as will dishwasher soap pods and laundry detergent. In the Outbuilding... Guests will have access to the outbuilding, which stores the charcoal grill, and paddles and lifevests for the kayaks. The Kayaks... The kayaks are available for guests to use, free of charge. Persons under the age of 15 will not be permitted to operate a kayak individually, but may ride on a kayak with an adult. Anyone under the age of 18 must be under direct adult supervision whenever using the kayaks. It is not recommended to use the kayaks when there are high winds, and it is not advisable to take the kayaks beyond Toormore Bay.
The house is located in Toormore, about 9 kilometers west of Schull, a small village with shopping, pubs, and restaurants.

Our house is a traditional Irish stone house, overlooking Bantry Bay on the north side of the Sheep's Head Peninsula. The house is wonderfully located for it's breathtaking views and many walks along the Sheep's Head Way. Our house is warm and welcoming, like coming home from a long journey to put your feet up and just relax. We offer B&B (already included in your stay), and evening meals upon request. Cork airport can be reached within 90min (100km). Bantry, our local town, is only 20min away.
Ours is a two story house, where we have two very cosy ensuite bedrooms upstairs for you to stay. We have a quiet corner upstairs aswell, where you can sit, read or take in the views of Bantry Bay. Downstairs, we have the living/dining area, where you are welcome to have a tea or coffee, relax in the living room, watch TV, or go out into the garden. Should you feel like a relaxing massage or a treatment in our treatment room, we are delighted to show you our brochure, and book you in for one.
The Sheep's Head Way is one of the most beautiful parts of the world. In rain or shine, you can find various walks (or cycles), for all levels, as soon as you leave the house. Kilcrohane village nearby is quaint, but always with some traditional activity in Eileen's Pub. Ahakista, with its strands, and Durrus village, connecting you to the Mizen Head, are also nearby. For shopping, Bantry is the best, offering local shops, as well as Leisure Centres, more pubs & restaurants and a Cinema.

  • Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by my hosts, Jackie and Jonathan. I found the stables to be very clean and had all amenities needed for a comfortable stay. I found my stay at the stables only enhanced my overall experience of West Cork and I couldn't recommend the cottage highly enough. Thanks again and I hope to see you again soon.

  • I would highly recommend rock cottage as it is so modern, clean and peaceful and set in a wonderful location just over 10 minutes from Schull and a couple of minutes from the coast. Your host Jacqueline is wonderful and very helpful from start to end, from sorting out a small problem with the tv straight away, to wonderful tips on places to eat ad visit. They are there if you need them as well as giving you all the privacy and space you need. They have a wonderful array of animals, but we loved to greeting we got always got from their two friendly dogs that got on so well with our dog. There are a couple of restaurants near by, but we did not use them as we stayed out of season. The nights were cozy with the log burner burning away and the area that rock cottage is in is so scenic. We loved our stay and will be back in future.

  • This is a perfect stop in Ireland away from city and tourist-centric traps. The small towns within 20-30 minute drives offer great food, and the coastal drives provide beautiful geographic formations and amazing views/sunsets. The real pearl is Jackie and Jonathan's farm. The Stables are the most amazing space for a couple, very warm and cozy with full amenities, and the wood-burning fireplace made for the absolute best way to spend a rainy night in Ireland. Three nights were a great break in all our driving and city adventures, but a few nights more would be perfect! Hope to come back.

  • We had a great time on our stay in the Stables. The accommodation was spotless and did everything that we needed it to and more. Our fresh eggs made for some nice breakfasts! The trip was made all the more enjoyable by our strolls, with the house dogs, around the farm seeing the donkeys and chickens!

  • We had some wonderful days at the Stables. It was very well equipped and cosy. Jacqueline and Jon were super friendly and had some nice suggestions for us. We can only recommend to stay for a few days.

  • Fabulous location for our four day trip exploring West Cork. The stables was everything we could have hoped for and was a perfect 'home' for our short stay. Rock Cottage is so peaceful and is a wonderful way to escape from reality for a few days. Jacqueline and Johnathan were wonderful hosts and were super welcoming, however, the best welcome was saved for our 5 year old daughter from the two beautiful resident dogs, they truly made our daughters holiday - and to top it off she was able to feed the donkeys each morning. Words can't really do this place justice, and we look forward to returning and getting away from it all once more.
