  • This gem of a holiday park was such a treat for our family. We loved the beautiful and quiet location, and the owner Chris steered us to seeing wild kiwis on a night hike. We would gladly return.

  • A great little place to relax and enjoy a peaceful getaway. Joanna took us up to the cabin and answered our questions about the wildlife and what we may see. Our stay was exactly as we expected from the listing. I recommend those who want a quiet place away from it all to try this AirBNB.

  • We had a lovely stay here and really liked the accommodation. It has some great outdoor spaces and a lovely rural/bush outlook. Joanna made us very welcome. A highlight of the stay was the two night walks we did in Trounson Kauri Park, we saw kiwi on both occasions! Take a red filtered light if you go as white light is harmful to them.

Our quaint, loved Tiny House, overlooking young fruit trees and former grazing paddock, is now available for your enjoyment. We are in rural Poroti, on the road between Whangarei, Kaikohe, and Dargaville. We are an easy 15-20 minute drive into Whangarei to the East and our location is close to both Highway 15 and 14 for easy access to the North and West. Previously our home for three years, the Tiny House shares our one hectare section with our new family home across the drive
Equipped with full kitchen and bathroom. The ceiling height in the kitchen and bathroom is 1.9 metres. The bed is in the loft and the stairs are somewhat steep - it is not possible to stand in the loft. The bed is Queen size and there is shelving and hanging space for clothes upstairs.
The Mangakahia Sports Complex and grounds (walking distance), Poroti Tavern (1-2 min drive), Maungatapere cafe and fuel station (~5 min drive)
  • The Tinyhouse was jmmacutely clean, amazing amenities, super comfortable bed after nights of camping, welcoming hosts, Netflix and more, hearty continental breakfast. Recommend 10/10.

My place is good for Solo Adventurers. This room has a very comfortable king single bed. My place is a few minutes from town by car yet set into the bush. If you need a double bedroom I have another listing "Cosy Artsy Retreat set into native Bush." I welcome walkers on Te Araroa - The Great Walk. If you would like a meal I can provide one for you. Let me know in advance. Price negotiable. Please check in after 4:30 pm as I work at a school and am usually at school until that time
My place is small and unique. It is a Lockwood house built in 1965 which features an atrium garden. The house is set into native bush at the back yet is very close to the centre of Whangarei. The is a stream at the bottom of the gully which sings merrily after heavy rain.
This is a very quiet street with native birds flying around frequently. Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a short walk down the hill. This is a subtropical garden with many pleasant walks spread over many acres. It also has a cool cafe..The Quail Cafe.
  • I stay at Julies place every time I am in Whangarei. Julie is a wonderful host, breakfast is always great with home made bread and organic coffee. The room is lovely, and the house and gardens are beautiful. Thanks again Julie, see you next time X

  • Great place and lucky to have a stay. Very stylish and will stay again.

    Bohao2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Julie is a delightful host, and her space is beautiful. She is easygoing, friendly, and happy to share her knowledge of the area with you, enjoy a chat at the end of the day, or leave you in peace if you aren't up to socializing. If you're staying with her, I recommend having coffee and cake at The Quail Cafe, and exploring the quarry gardens there.

The Annex is an older building that was a sleepout. It has two bedrooms and a living/ dining area, with a wood fire, sink, fridge, hot plate and microwave. There is a small shower room and separate toilet. It is situated on a farmlet with harbour views, 7km south of the city centre , one hundred metres up an unsealed driveway off State Highway One. This is a busy main road, so there can be road noise. It is a working farmlet, our hens free range and our trees drop leaves and small branches.
There is NOT a full kitchen - only a fridge, hot plate, microwave, kettle and toaster. Tea, coffee, cup of soup , cereals, bread, butter and condiments are included. The living area has a TV and DVD player with some DVD's. There are plenty of books to read. I have made sure the beds are really comfortable. You are totally private, if that is your wish. The free WiFi code is in the Information booklet if you have a laptop. You may use our washing machine or dryer for no charge.
We are in a semi rural area with only a few houses around us. Whangarei CBD is 7 kms from us and has many good cafes and restaurants which you will find in our information folder. There are a number of good walks and cycle tracks and many parks. The sub tropical Quarry garden is worth a visit and there is an Arts Quarry as well. The lookout on Parihaka gives you views across the city. There is a picturesque drive along the harbour's edge out to Ocean Beach and there is a nice cafe towards the end of it. About 20 min south is the historical Scottish settlement of Waipu with its small museum. An hour SW is the unique Kauri museum and the Bay of Islands is only about 40min north of us. We have numerous beaches both harbour and ocean within half an hour's drive all around us and there is the famous deep sea fishing base at Tutukaka about 40 min drive NE of us.
  • Very welcoming, lovely spot a short drive to town

  • Great apartment with everything you could ask for

    Sabine2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Eilean's annexe was a great experience and the little things, such as all the choice of breakfast things, including fresh eggs from their own chickens and the home made brownies made the stay quite unique. The location was wonderful, only 100m away from the road, but it felt like staying right in the countryside and was so peaceful. I would love to stay there again if I ever make it back that way.

We live in the middle of nowhere If you like quiet you will love it here. Although we heard a car go past two days ago. We have 93 acres with Native forest, chickens / cattle / calves and the cutest little Kune Kune pigs you'll ever meet. We have the privilege of sharing our home with a succession of puppies mostly Labradors; all of whom are Blind Foundation guide dog in training. And we are all ruled over with the Iron Claw of our SPCA rescue cat Ebony
We only take one booking per day so whether there is one, three or five of you, you will have the entire ground floor of our home for your use. Including your own bathroom with a Spa bath. In the land of the Hobbits, home of the bungy jump and the jet boat; here is your chance to spend a night or two doing nothing, Refresh, Relax, Reflect, coffee on the deck, beer in front of the fire, wine in a candle lit bath or picnic under the trees. We offer you the opportunitty to do nothing and all the equipment you need to do it.
Green and quiet we have by the bucket load we are in the middle of nowhere and offer a great opportunity to do nothing. Sunsets, walks, mountain bike rides, picnics in the trees and star gazing (sometimes) with the kiwi is about as hard out as we go. The Matakohe Kauri Museum is a place we are all very proud of and is well worth the visit. The Paparoa Village Farmers Market on Saturday morning is where we shop. The Thirsty Tui also in Paparoa Is our local Pub. We are constantly working our way through their seasonal menu. We usually have a late lunch or early dinner on our way home from the markets.
  • Ross and Kim are warm, caring and kind, they literally went the extra mile. The cooking and home made bread was fabulous. The farm is a wonderful place to experience farm life for the kids, whor have enjoyed interacting with the animals. Fetching fresh farm eggs from the hens daily was absolutely wonderful.

    Jeanine2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely relaxing space to pause between your trips. We only stayed one night but had a nice chat with Ross in the evening and slept very good! We highly recommend a stop at their farm if you like to meet some locals and get some advices where to go/ what to see! :)

Work has just begun on our very own commnunity and surf life guard centre, there is much excitment building around this!
  • The Bach is great, a really charming place only a couple minutes walk from a beautiful beach. Josie is also the best host I’ve ever had. She’s so considerate and friendly, plus she gave us homemade baked goods twice in the week we stayed! She also really helped us out during the Covid lockdown, giving us a place to stay while we waited for our flight out of the country. Thanks Josie, I’ll be back next time I visit New Zealand!

    Sam2020-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is the batch you want to book! From the moment I booked online, the communication with the hosts were outstanding. We arrived to a clean and beautifully kept abode. All essentials were provided. The bedrooms were a perfect size for 2 adults and 1 child. Josie kindly baked some cookies and also set up a sand pit for the little one - finishing touches like these made our stay that more enjoyable. From the colour of the batch, to the decorations and beachy feel - we felt right at home. All amenities were outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed all the eco products including the biodegradable rubbish bags. The grains of coffee and breakfast items was just what we needed. On arrival there was an instruction booklet with tips and local spots around dargaville to visit which we thought was perfect for anyone new to the area. The wifi was one of the best features as well! We are looking forward to returning again - this is how much we loved our stay.

    Divine2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything in this batch is beautiful, wholesome and delicious. Also the perfect location right on the perfect beach. Hope to be back for a longer stay some day!

We have an inviting detached room on our property, which is separate from the house and where you will have your own entrance. We are a 15 minute drive from down town Whangarei (16km) and the location is ideal for a quiet stay away from the city, or as a stop over on your trip around Northland. The spacious room has a queen bed, drawers, TV, table and chairs, microwave, small fridge, toaster and kettle plus essential crockery and cutlery.
The toilet and bathroom is a shared space. It is located in the main house, approx 15 metres walk from your separate room. Tea, coffee and milk is provided (breakfast is not included). There are no kitchen facilities available, but you are welcome to use the appliances in your room (microwave, small fridge, toaster and kettle plus essential crockery and cutlery).
Maungatapere is a rural community, dominated by Maungatapere Mountain, an extinct volcano. The area has rich volcanic soil, which boasts many orchards. The stone walls (which you can view from the guesthouse) were built by former soldiers and are a key feature of the area. There is at least one paddock between our property and any neighbours, giving you privacy and space.

The Little House is a small, cosy, cottage in the quite, rural area of Purua. Being surrounded by nature, farm animals and wildlife such as Kiwi Birds and Morepork which you can hear every night, creates a scenic and comfortable stay.
The Little House is a small cottage in the middle of the farmlands, and forests. We have a range of farm animals including chickens, a pig, and cows. Wildlife includes native birds such as Tui's, Morepork's, Fantail's, Woodpigeon's and Kiwi's which live in our own forest, which you are free to explore.
  • Our favorite AirBNB. Nothing to fault. Great hosts, comfortable and stylish place.

  • Violet and Ralph's place is absolutely stunning and they are very welcoming. Exceeded expectations - wish we could have stayed longer. Full breakfast provided - farm produce and plenty of goodies to eat. Secluded and picturesque. Highly recommend staying here! Betty the pig even came to say hello to us.

  • A very special place to switch off and enjoy. The accommodation was very clean and has a great view of the landscape. The hosts are great and offer an above average breakfast. Highly recommended and gladly again.

  • The Little House is a delight, beautiful private setting. A lovely outdoor space to have a glass of wine in the evening and to eat the delicious breakfast Violet provides. Violet was a great host and nothing was too much trouble. Would certainly recommend a walk up the hill to see a spectacular view . A must visit if you are in the area.

  • The place is very convenient. Both Jan and Beryl are very welcoming and hospitable. Definately should consider.

  • Beryl and Jan are fantastic hosts! The place was very clean and the perfect size for me, and Beryl and Jan were so welcoming and helpful. The location is perfect for walking to the hospital. I wish I could have stayed longer. 5+ stars. Thank you Beryl and Jan!

    Laura2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovely and cordial hosts!

    Natascha2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jan & Beryl are among the kindest hosts you can find. They greeted me upon arrival, helped me settle in, and then left me to my space, but left a door open in case I needed anything. The cottage is the sweetest little space, perfect for one person looking to explore Whangarei. The internet was a little spotty, so if you're looking to do work or school while there, just have a chat with Jan and he'll help get things sorted out. If you have a car or are looking to do plenty of walking, the location is not an issue - it's just a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the center of the action. They left milk, bread, cereal, coffee, tea, & eggs for breakfasts, which was a very nice touch and much appreciated.

  • This place was just right for me as a solo traveller. The location was brilliant for travelling in the around the north of the island.

  • Awesome, thoughtful touches, generous hospitality, perfect little nooks for reflection and meals. Loved it.

  • This was a great little place for a short stay in Whangarei. Jan and Beryl are onsite and helped with check-in and any assistance while we were there. The little studio was clean and comfortable, with all the essential amenities needed for our stay. It was close to town and a great value. We'd definitely recommend to other travelers. The neighbors had fireworks for a party on a weekend night, but it was cool to see and didn't bother us.

The Cottage at Wai Rua, west of Whangarei, is approximately 18 minutes drive from Kamo via Pipiwai Road. It is a hidden gem with amazing rural views, including massive volcanic rocks, lakes and ponds, set in a beautiful tranquil garden. It can be a getaway retreat or stopover.
Don't be put off by the metal road, you won't regret what you find at our place. The cottage is far enough away from the main house to give plenty of privacy but close enough to join us for a meal or glass of wine. The kunekune pigs will "talk" to you from their paddock and the hens will provide you with fresh eggs for your breakfast (if you wish). The orchard provides fresh fruit depending on the season.
This is a rural area surrounded by farmland. The closest place (5 minutes down the road) to get food is the local fuel station which also has a very good takeaway kitchen and country style cafe for breakfast and lunches. Otherwise it is a 20 minute drive. There is a forest walk close by and Whangarei is a lovely town with great cafes and walkways.
  • This property is a slice of heaven on earth! Elaine and Allan aren’t just super hosts but super people. If you get an opportunity to stay here DO IT! We never wanted to leave.

A totally magical spot, private, views, stunning cottage, hot tub, such a friendly welcome from the host.. and the grounds. wetland areas, stunning volcanic rocks... if there is availability on the dates you are planning, don’t hesitate to book this amazing cottage. Will be a highlight of our NZ vacation. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

  • After a long couple of days on the road it was lovely to get to Elaine's place to relax a bit. The property is located about 20 min from town via an easy drive, it is peaceful, stunning scenery and the hot tub a must. I enjoyed a run on the 12km Parihaka trail course which was a great sampler of the falls area and then headed out to Mount Manaia a short steep hike to a view. Elaine's place was perfectly placed to do both very easily. The property was wonderful and private and as i sat in the hot tub i was quite amused by the three piggies and the ducks that wandered past. Elaine was super friendly and welcoming and was my NZ mum for two nights! Thank you for looking out for me Elaine! I would def recommend this stay if you are looking for a quiet beautiful stay that's still close to town!

The perfect escape. This self-contained apartment, with its own entrance and car park, looks out over Omapere Beach. It faces the legendary Hokianga sunset and sand dunes. This studio apartment is the perfect launchpad for adventure or peaceful reflection. The Omapere launch ramp is 100 metres away. There's a new 5-person spa pool right outside the front door for guests. A queen bed plus sofa bed for an additional guest.
This apartment is equipped with new furniture, electronics and appliances. Ensuring a comfortable night listening to waves on the beach is the new solid timber queen bed. The lounge features a sofa bed and desk, along with a DVD-capable TV connected to Freeview. As this is a compact studio apartment, the kitchen is naturally small but well equipped. It has a fridge, electric skillet, microwave, toaster - along with crockery, utensils, cutlery glassware etc. We can set up a small outdoor gas barbecue for those who want more cooking options.
This apartment with its sea views is just across the road from the Omapere Beach, 20 minutes from Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest, even closer to the giant sand dunes for those keen to sand surf - and just minutes from the Opo the Dolphin memorial, the colourful Opononi pub and local fish n chip shop. For dining out we recommend The Landing Thai Restaurant and the Copthorne Resort, a short walk away. You can arrive with your own boat or charter a boat to go fishing or exploring the historic Hokianga Harbour - while big game fishing grounds await.

Our cabin is a cosy retreat set in our garden. It has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. It is only 20 minutes from central Whangarei and 10 minutes from Kamo and SH1 so if you are travelling it would be great a place to stay. Our garden cabin would be suitable for good value medium to long term stays.
Our cabin is small and simple but comfortable, with a great bed, kitchenette and powerful shower. The kitchenette has a microwave, twin electric hob, kettle, toaster and fridge. There are pots and basic cooking essentials. There is carbon filtered water to help you brew some great coffee! There are insect screens fitted on all the windows and ranch slider which helps cool the cabin on hot days. There is a covered bbq area and picnic bench outside so you can enjoy the garden atmosphere when the weather allows. We provide extra blankets and there is a heater for when the weather is cooler.
Our neighbourhood is in a rural setting and although a few kms from Whangarei the roads are great and you can be in the town centre within 20 minutes. The nearest shops and restaurants are a 10 min drive away in Kamo. If driving North you can be on SH1 in 10mins. Our place is 35 minutes from Tutukaka and the Tutukaka coast which sport some amazing beaches, fishing and diving. There is a tennis court that you can use which is 300m up the road. If you need rackets and balls let us know and you can borrow them.
  • Great place, great people, and a very friendly cat. Would love to stay there again! The stars were very nice as well.

I am well-travelled and know the importance of pleasant and enjoyable accommodation. Come and enjoy my lovely period bungalow located in a quiet cul-de-sac just 2 minutes drive from the central business district or an easy 10 minute flat walk. You will have a warm, cosy single room with a very comfy king single bed and good quality linen. Off-street private parking is available for peace of mind.
You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare simple meals. Continental breakfast is provided as well as endless tea and coffee and alfresco dining on either the front or rear deck weather dependent.
If you appreciate great coffee Whangarei has some fabulous cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance or short drive. My favourite cafe is just 7 minute walk from home! The hospital is an easy 12 minute walk or 3-5 minute drive depending on traffic. Barge Park is 5 minute drive. Other handy amenities at the top of the road bakery, BP petrol station, hairdresser, Fish n' Chip takeaway, Chinese takeaway, convenience store (Dairy), Lotto shop for that lucky win!!, Liquorland, Dentist, florist, Medical Centre and Thai Massage. The laundromat is 5 minute walk.

  • I stayed 5 weeks with Trish during my internship at Whangarei hospital. Trish is a warmhearted, caring and lovely host and I could not imagine any better place to stay. The communication was very easy and she helped whenever she could. The house was super clean, the kitchen perfect equiped to do some cooking and the bedroom very comfortable. The hospital is only a 5 min walk, some shops as well. I could even use Trish's bike to go to the city center. It took about 10 mins. The bus stop is just a 3 min walk. The area is quiet and some hiking tracks are close. Would highly recommend staying with Trish, also for a longer period of time.

Her home is so conveniently located, just 10 minutes drive to the shopping complex that has Warehouse, Countdown and K-Mart. Our room was clean and comfy; and it was so quiet that we slept like a baby! We also love the big bathroom space. Thank you so much for being a great host and making our stay a pleasant one :)

We are just off the main road (Sometimes road noise can be annoying but not loud). The house is quite old but I am in the process of updating it. You’ll have unlimited access to the TV in the lounge, Wifi, our new kitchen and of course the trampoline. Not much is near by so please come prepared with food before arriving (although I can provide dinner, Tea and coffee)
There isn't much around. There is a G.A.S station 2km away and a pub 3km away. Other than that the nearest town is about 20km away.
  • This place is a gem!!! Will totaly come again! We have spent an unforgetable time with Lee, Carol and their little son Leo. They were one of the most accomodating families we have ever seen! Helped us out with every little thing we needed. Treated us like ones of the family. We are forever grateful for taking us for a month, especially in a lockdown period! The place is super nice, lots of bush and fruit trees! Amazing view from the room and porch! And the owners have really the biggest heart in the world. Thank you guys! Tal&Maya

Restful peaceful and quiet my house is set in the forest yet close to town. I have another room listed separately "Comfy single room with kauri tree view." Wake to the sound of native birds calling and see pigeons - kereru - tui and fantails as they dip and glide over the house. Kiwi call at night and sometimes come to your window. Please note that the house is about a 40 minute walk from the bus stop. I might be able to pick you up. Contact me. Come take your load off and refresh.
This is a smaller house made of solid wood and its bush setting gives it the feel of a tramping hut on a trail. Its sunny and warm and has a heat pump for winter warmth. Its is very quiet and peaceful and almost retreat like yet it is very close to the centre of town.
My place is a short walk from from Whangarei Quarry Gardens a beautiful rambling subtropical beauty with its own cafe with very yummy cakes and and coffees. My place is also very close to bush walks up into the Coronation Forest, a small Lake stocked with many rainbow trout for anglers and the local stadium is virtually a hop step and a jump away for fitness sessions.
  • Our second stay with Julie. A great experience to stay with her, a so lovely, interesting, intelligent, helpful, beautiful woman. Who didn’t stay with her in the past should do that in the future if it’s possible again.

    Steffen & Raphael2020-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place to stay! Julie is a sweet person and we absolutely loved her homemade bread and apricot jam!! Cosy & clean. Smooth communication and easy to find. Would def stay again!!

    Sabina2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • To say that Julie’s place is the best Airbnb in New Zealand is an understatement! It’s probably the best in the world. She was incredibly kind and welcoming, and even made us freshly baked bread for breakfast! Her home was clean, lovely, and in a great location. Really couldn’t have asked for more, she went above and beyond what I expected. Thanks for everything Julie!

  • Words cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay with Julie. She is a wonderful host and made everyone in her presence feel welcomed. She's always smiling and had many interesting stories to tell. She helped us with rides to and from the intercity bus stop and with getting groceries a couple times. Her place is homey and has a unique charm, we loved the center garden and all of the bird song nearby. The daily homemade bread and spreads were amazing! Her place was always clean and the wifi was good. We highly recommend staying with Julie at her place if you're in Whangarei, we will miss you Julie!

A handy stopover going north or south, or a wonderful hub to explore the beautiful north from, just 1-2 hours’ drive to most popular attractions. You’ll have the space to yourself and will only share it with those you’re travelling with. Queen bedrooms, large rumpus dining/lounge with a single bed & Kitchenette (Microwave, toaster, jug). All in one bathroom with shower and separate laundry (which we are happy for you to have moderate use of), plus a portable cot for those with little ones!
Quirky 70 styles and what it lacks in finesse, it more than makes up for in character, comfort & spaciousness. Lounge area has couches, table & chairs, writing desk, TV, coffee table & a single bed. Kitchenette has a microwave, fridge, jug, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, glasses, cutlery & crockery and a selection of serials, fruit, some bread, butter & milk to get you started. A quiet haven to call your own within a short drive or stroll to many Restaurants, cafes, walks, and local attractions.
We sit 5-10 minutes from the City, Kensington Stadium, Toll Stadium - handy if you are in Whangarei for an event. Despite how close we are, there is minimal traffic noise and our neighbourhood is very quiet, consisting of mainly older people & a young family, so not suitable for late night socialising.

The Yurt at Wai Rua, west of Whangarei, is approximately 20 minutes drive from Kamo via Pipiwai Road. It is set in a beautiful tranquil farmland area beside a small lake, which is surrounded by native trees. Watch the native birds, ducks and pukekos whilst sitting on the deck. It has amazing rural views, including massive volcanic rocks. The yurt has a separate kitchen, bathroom facilities, with a hot water shower and composting toilet. It also has a woodfired hot tub. A perfect retreat.
There is all weather access for vehicles to drive to and park by the yurt. There is access to a salt water solar heated swimming pool which is closed over the winter months. There are metal roads for walking or biking throughout the 80 acres on this property. Guests will be able to wander through the lovely garden and bush areas. They will also be able to meet the friendly pigs and hens. There is also a barbecue for further cooking. It also has some electricity from a solar panel. All windows have insect screens. For a winter retreat there is a fireplace in the fully wool insulated yurt, along with an external wood burning hot tub under the trees which is set at a cost of $25.00 for the whole of your stay - this is paid in cash to the hosts. The cost is because it takes approximately 3 hours to get it hot and we also provide the fire wood. It is in great space where you can enjoy birdsong and the stars at night Breakfast foods which are mostly organic and grown on the property will be provided as part of the stay.
This is set in farmland which is volcanic and has unique rocks with lovely native forest and plenty of bird life. There are wetlands, native bush and plenty of water areas.
